V o l u m e 1 5, I s s u e 9 a monthly newsletter of Knightdale Baptist All Those Good Things As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem. Luke 9:51 The Christian calendar, by which we establish our church year, is laid out as such to help us experience the fullness of Jesus life and ministry throughout the year. Thus, as we progress into a new church year, we re reminded of the challenge issued again and again to stand as witness to the many great things supplied in our lives through a relationship with Christ, to express gratitude in shaping our goals for a new year. It s a common joke that New Year s resolutions don t last and we end up making the same ones over and over again each year. One of my former professors, Tony Cartledge, commented that this isn t necessarily a bad thing because those resolutions, while repeated, continue to remind us of good goals to strive for all the time. Too, a resolution for a New Year finds its purpose in correcting something from the previous year or setting some beneficial goal for the upcoming year. Perhaps there is something we need to work on or maybe there is some aspect of our own walk with the Lord that needs more attention. Rob Bell once observed that many people treat God as an outdated entity that has long since lost meaning, when in reality God is not behind us, but ahead of us, calling us forward into new understandings, new experiences, and new possibilities. As Luke records Jesus ministry, he often remarks that Jesus focused his attention on the task at hand, always mindful of the greater purpose for which he was sent. In the midst of all the good he accomplished, Jesus was aware and resolutely set out for the larger goal ahead. We know that our faith is also calling us forward to join God in this glorious future he has prepared. We live a faith focused on the past, present, and future. Our faith is informed by events in the past, being lived right now, guiding us forward into a future of hope by a God who isn t aged out or behind us, but the true God always in front of us calling us towards better lives, better habits, better practices, and better faith. So, this church year, perhaps as you seek to better yourselves through goals and volunteering meant to provide some measure of improvement in your life, whether it s brand new or one you ve made again and again, may you see that the God of all things, old and new, is keeping our faith focused on all those good things still in store. Beginning in 2019, the flower committee will no longer post a flower calendar in the education building. Thank you! The Rebecca Hall Memorial Prayer Garden On Tuesday April 3, 2018 suddenly and unexpectedly, RBA Ministry Assistant Rebecca Bentley Hall passed away. Rebecca never met a stranger and her Christian passion for everyone to know Christ was evident everyday of her brief life. As a memorial to her love, passion, influence and deep commitment to family, her son Carter and his Boy Scout Troop have constructed a beautiful and peaceful Prayer Garden. This project was also a portion of the requirements for Carter s Eagle Scout award. The photo below represents how inviting and welcoming the space is to all who visit the RBA Resource Center. Be sure to stop by the Prayer Garden the next time you are in the area or at the RBA for a meeting. She was survived by her husband, Tim; daughter, Sierra Hall and son, Carter. The RBA family is deeply grateful for this gift of love and eternal memory.

Page 6 the Beam, a monthly Newsletter for Knightdale Baptist September, 2018 Children & Youth News Fifth Sunday Event The Children & Youth Committee is sponsoring a 5th Sunday event where the children and their leaders will stay in the sanctuary the entirety of the service. They will not dismiss for children s church after the children s message. Although there may be a few more wiggles in the pews, we strongly encourage our congregation to use this opportunity to share in worship together. Let s show our kids through example how to praise Him and at the same time allow an opportunity for our children s leaders to join the larger congregation for Sunday worship. We will post a few reminders prior to the 5th Sunday in September (September 30th) and if you have any additional questions/concerns, please speak with Rebecca West or another committee member. Sunday School The first Sunday of this month marks the beginning of a new calendar year for our church. Why not start out on a different foot and join a Sunday School class. There is one to fit your needs and I am sure that you and your class members will both be blessed by your decision to join a Sunday school class. Thank you to all of our teachers and class members who have been so faithful during our last calendar year. I am sure that any one of you would be willing to tell the difference that it makes in your life by attending a Sunday School class. Sunday school begins at 9:45 am every Sunday morning and continues to 10:30 am. Admittedly, we sometimes get so excited about what we are learning that we do go over. But what a wonderful reason. We promise to be out in time for worship.

Page 7 the Beam, a monthly Newsletter for Knightdale Baptist September, 2018 & Mission Opportunities Wednesday Night Fellowship Meal Kickoff The monthly Wednesday Night Fellowship Meal will begin on Wednesday, September 12th from 5:30 - (Arrival anytime between 5:30 and 6:30 pm), so come help us kick off the new church year by attending our WNF Meal. Please invite family, friends and other church members as this is a good opportunity to not only have a good meal at a bargain cost, but have time to fellowship and get to know one another. We have a good time, so come out and enjoy this event each month. The Menu for this month will be: BBQ Chicken (white and dark meat), Green Beans, Buttered Potatoes, Hushpuppies, Homemade Desserts and Beverages. (Cheese Pizza always available.) Reservations/cancellations must be made by noon on Monday, September 10th. Call the church office to make reservations at 919-266-2471. Cost for the meal is: adults (10-up) $5.00 children (4-9) $2.00 and children 3 and under eat free (Max charge per family - $20.00). Backpack Buddies It is time to start stocking our shelves to provide for the children! We will be providing meals for 20 children every weekend. A grocery list can be found in the vestibule of the Sanctuary. Please remember no glass. The Giving Tree is located in the back hallway of the Sanctuary. Here is how it works 1) Take a dollar amount that you are comfortable in contributing weekly OR that you can contribute that week ONLY. 2) Either shop for the items on the back of the apple or add that dollar amount onto your weekly tithe with a note in the memo section that allocates the amount for Backpack Buddies. 3) If you can contribute weekly just keep the apple as a reminder for your shopping trips or for your additional monetary donation. If this is a ONE time donation, please return the apple to the Giving Tree so that Edith may know what is needed for that week. If you plan on SHOPPING, please drop off your weekly donations in front of the Backpack Buddies office located on the bottom floor downstairs in the Sanctuary building across from the Fellowship Hall (kitchen side, in the back hallway of the Sanctuary) in a box labeled Backpack Buddies, or on the floor at the bottom of the stairwell next to the Conference Room in the Education building. It s as EASY as 1...2...3. Thank you again for supporting this ministry. Faith Expressions Faith Expressions is starting back Sunday, September 16th. We will meet at Northside after worship from 12:15-12:45 pm every Sunday. We will be preparing pieces for the Christmas and Easter holidays. Anyone interested in joining us, please contact Edith Tew for more details. Call or text 919-360-3718.
