Good News from St. Pius X/St. Leo School "St. Pius X / St. Leo School is a diverse community forming students in the Catholic faith to excel in academics and service to others." St. Pius X/St. Leo School Hello St. Pius X / St. Leo Community members, I hope everyone had a wonderful week and a restful Labor Day weekend. We are very excited to share some wonderful news about some amazing accomplishments from our staff, students and alumni. This Fall, Marian and Creighton Prep are joining together to perform the musical The Sound of Music. The play will be in late October with opening night on Thursday, October 25th. As many may know, the von Trapp family that is portrayed in The Sound of Music has seven children of many different ages. Naturally, to put on this type of musical, the organizers of the play needed a wide range of students to play the von Trapp children and recently held auditions for non-high school students to play five of those seven roles. We are so proud to share that many students auditioned from the Omaha schools and four of those five von Trapp children roles were given to St. Pius X / St. Leo students and alumni. The oldest von Trapp daughter, Lisesl, will be played by alum Jolie Peal. The role of Louisa von Trapp will be performed by current SPSL seventh grader, Abi Howard. Marta von Trapp will be played by current SPSL first grader, Lydia Peters and the youngest von Trapp child, Marta, will be played by current SPSL first grader, Elaina Martinez. Congratulations to not only these students but all of those who auditioned. We are so proud of all of you. Additionally, we also want to congratulate our alumni who will be performing in The Sound of Music in other roles. PJ Mooney will be playing Captain Georg von Trapp and Daniel Noon will be playing Franz, Captain von Trapp s butler. Also, alumni Becca Townley, Avery Streeter, Annie Compton, Sydnee Baysa and Murphy Mertz will be playing the nuns/sisters from the Nonnberg Abbey. Lastly, we want to congratulate all of our families who helped these students in sharing their gifts as well teachers who helped our students and alumni practice and hone their theatrical skills. We want to especially recognize and celebrate the hard work that our amazing music teachers Mrs. Karen English and Mrs. Carol Drvol have done over the years in guiding these students to achieve such amazing things in music and theatre. Also, we want to thank Mrs. Jen Martinez who not only teachers in our middle school but also coaches our students as the SPSL Theatre and Drama Club director. We are very blessed to have such talented students who have dedicated teachers that provide avenues and opportunities for them to share those gifts to the world. Cory Sepich, Principal If you have children in grades Pre-Kindergarten (3-year-old and 4-year-old programs) to Grade 8 that you are thinking about sending to our school for this school year, please call our school office at 402-551-6667 to set up a time to come and visit, and, then enroll your child/ ren when you decide to come to our school. We are blessed that our grades are filling up, but would love for you and your family to join our school family this year! Join us on a Bus Tour to Kansas City in December! 08 l St. Leo Catholic Church

In Pursuit of Life, Love and Happiness By: Deacon Jim Shipman In today s gospel, Jesus heals a man that cannot hear nor speak properly. Jesus said, Ephphatha! that is, Be opened! Our Lord s presence on earth was the fulfillment of Isaiah s prophecy we hear in our first reading. Great stories but how does this help us right now in our lives? The vast majority of us go through life without hearing or seeing the presence of God in our lives. We fail to hear what our Lord is trying to teach us and we fail to see presence of His work going on around us. If we are faced with defending our faith we are deaf mute. We cannot put two words together to describe our faith in Jesus Christ. So our prayer to our Lord should be to open our ears to hear his voice and allow our tongue to always proclaim Him unceasingly. Also to heal our blindness to his presence in our lives. Once we ask Jesus to heal us of our deafness, blindness, and muteness, our whole being is open to allowing Him to run the show. That is the real challenge of being a good Christian. To open ourselves up to follow Him where ever he may take us. The stories we hear in scriptures will become examples of how we can learn from God to change our lives to the better. Each of us need to spend time with our Lord Jesus in deep spiritual prayer asking for His guidance. Opening our hearts and minds to his never ending love. So as Isaiah said. Be strong, fear not! Here is your God, he comes with vindication; with divine recompense he comes to save you. St. Leo Knights of Columbus NOTE! The opportunity to go online for information and to join the Knights of Columbus is now available and has already resulted in 2,216 new members. Please take time to direct Catholic men that you know to www.kofc.org/joinus. This allows them to get the information they need to make their personal decision on membership and to join online. In 2017 the Knights of Columbus donated $185.6 million and provided 75.6 million volunteer hours to charity and relief efforts worldwide.
