FROM THE EVANGELISM MINISTRY EVANGELISM, SPIRITUAL GIFTS, WITNESSING (Excerpt from "Got Style?" by Dr. Jeffrey A. Johnson) In his book, "Got Style," Dr. Jeffrey Johnson discusses witnessing and what makes a good witness. He states that the moment you become a Christian, you become a unique witness for Christ, as unique as God made you. What qualifies you to be a witness for Christ is spending time with Christ. Therefore, every believer, every Christ-follower is a witness. Jesus said it best, "you shall be my witnesses" (Acts 1:8 (emphasis added)). A witness is who you are, not what you do. Some factors/characteristics of a good witness: 1. Looks the decision maker in the eyes when answering a question. 2. Speaks in a confident manner. 3. Listens carefully to the questions they are asked. They are not intimidated when crossexamined. 4. Answers questions they are asked directly, and stop talking when they've given their answers. 5. Speaks in plain language that every listener can understand. 6. Does not argue when questioned. 7. Says so when they do not know the answer to a question; they don't try to make something up. God calls each of us to be GOOD WITNESSES for Him. Each of us must continually go about telling the Good News of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!
COUNSELING MINISTRY Unconditional (Love) Relations with Spouse: Five Ways to Demonstrate This is the third of a series of articles which focuses on RELATIONSHIPS. Each article will address relationships from a biblical perspective. Unconditional love, as described in previous articles, can simply be characterized as having a relationship with someone with no conditions or expectations for a return. God demonstrated that kind of love for us, His Creation, in that while we were yet sinners He gave His life for His Creation Us (Romans 5:8). God through His Son Jesus Christ perpetually loves us with no strings attached. This love is often referred to as who so ever love (John 3:16). Consider the following five ways for demonstrating unconditional love for your spouse in a manner as previously described: Pray together and for your spouse often (1 Thessalonians 5:17); Be considerate and respectful of your spouse (1 Peter 3:7); Accept your spouse s successes, short-comings, and failures, just as Christ accepts yours (1 Corinthians 13:5); Support your spouse and do not see your spouse as a project to be fixed (1 Corinthians 13:4-7); and Exemplify honesty with your spouse undergirded with compassion (1 Corinthian 13: 6-7). What s Next? Unconditional (Love) Relations with Children: Five Ways to Demonstrate Mount Calvary Baptist Church Cancer Support Group Program A spiritual network is being created for both cancer survivors and their caregivers. Love, Megan Love Dear Mt Calvary Baptist Church and my wonderful church family, I hope that everyone is doing well as we continue to move toward spring and warm weather! I wanted to take this time to say thank you for all of your blessings, support, and the wonderful care package that was sent to me. Somehow you always seem to know when I am in need of some encouraging words and a lift of spirits, because they always come when I most need them. I am so glad to know that I have such a great support system back home. Having so many people in my life that want me to do well and keep me in their blessingss always reassures me that I'm going to succeed. Thank you so much for your kindness! I hope to see you all soon! Peace and blessings, Russell Nelson
Dear Church Family, I really appreciate the love, and support that you guys have shown throughout my journey through school. I kept all the little letters, bookmarks, plaques, stuffed bears and the good shepherd statue. It brings me great joy to open the mailbox and actually have mail in it. The packages and letters always help encourage me to be successful. It let's me know that I have such a great group of family and friends encouraging me to do well and succeed in life. There are many college students here who don t have the chance to receive things like this from such a great church family. My letter today is to let you know that I'm very appreciative of all that you do. Love you all... and I'll keep you updated on my progress. P.S. The care packages seem to come right before exam week and they certainly come in handy especially when you don t have time to put down the books to cook. Thank You Shauzlyne Palmer UMES, Princess Ann, MD Thank you Mount Calvary Baptist Church family for your never-failing love and support! Dear Mount Calvary Baptist Church Family, Thank you so much for the latest care package! It came at just the right time. As usual, I enjoyed all of the treats and really appreciate that you guys always know just what snacks I like. I hope you all are doing well and look forward to returning to my church home this summer. Thank you again! Sincerely, Ashley Riley Brown University '13 I would like to take the time to express my sincere thanks for this great and beneficial care package. I am truly blessed to have such a loving, caring, and thoughtful church family as Mount Calvary. I really appreciate the care package, but I also want to thank you all for the numerous prayers that are prayed for each student throughout the semester, myself included. I would like to thank the entire church family for the numerous prayers that covered me, as I prepare for the spring semester. Love Charles Hobson Jr. Greetings Care Package Ministry and Mount Calvary Church Family: I wanted to personally say thank you for the care package sent to me this winter. While it was quite difficult last semester to delay gratification I prevailed. I delayed opening the care package until just a few moments ago because I wanted to save it for a more appropriate time. This is my junior year and the beginning of spring semester here is traditionally the most stressful two-month stretch of an undergraduate's entire collegiate career. While undoubtedly I will be burning the candle at both ends, it is quite reassuring to know that I have the love of God in my corner and also the entire MCBC family. I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday season and wish all the best in 2011. Best Regards, Alex Drew Weaver The Wharton School The University of Pennsylvania alexweav@wharton.upenn.edu Dear Pastor Grant and Mount Calvary Family, Thank you so much for the wonderful care package and the words of encouragement as I go through my last semester as a junior, because junior year seems to always be the hardest. As I sat down to map out my life plan, I find myself constantly praying for guidance and direction. I realized that I needed to make difficult decisions for my future. The care package that I received really reminded me that no matter what, God has a plan for me.
Thank you so much for keeping me in your prayers. I am so blessed to have such a wonderful and loving church family. I can't wait until I return home for spring break so that I may thank everyone in person. Love and Blessings Always, Garyn Gabriel Hampton University Junior, Political Science Major Mount Calvary Baptist Church College Care Package Ministry, Thank you for the blessings and the gentle reminder that I remain in the prayers of a loving Church family.
