Camino de Santiago - The Way of St. James A few years ago while in-between jobs John traveled to Spain to walk one of the most famous pilgrim journeys in the Christian world, the El Camino de Santiago (the Way of St. James), a 500 mile journey mostly in Spain. James was the first of the twelve to suffer martyrdom, the only one whose death is recorded in the New Testament. Tradition suggests he had made a missionary journey to Spain, and that after his death his body was taken to Spain for burial in Compostella, which became a major site of pilgrimage in the Middle Ages. For over 1,000 years pilgrims have walked El Camino de Santiago. The Camino (meaning, The Way ) is featured in the 2010 film, The Way, directed by Emilio Estevez and starring his father, Martin Sheen. It is worth watching as preparation for this program! John has spent almost 30 years in leadership roles in Forest Resources, most recently as CEO and member of the Board of Directors of Deltic Timber Corporation, located here in Arkansas, leading in Deltic s recent merger with Potlatch. He grew up in Mississippi and is, thru and thru, a Mississippi State Bulldog. Join us for this fascinating program presented by one of Rev. Johnson s friends from his former pastorate, St. James UMC in Little Rock.
