In new business we will open nominations for the Columbian Year 2013 2014. We will have nominations at this meeting and the meeting in May and nominations and the election at the June 19, 2013 meeting at Christ the King Council in Terrytown. The new General Agent, Eric Ottoman, was suppose to be here. He may come later. MINUTES: A motion was made by Brother Steve Hart and seconded by Brother Tony Greg that the minutes of the last meeting be accepted as published. Motion to approve the minutes was made by voice vote. TREASURER S REPORT: Financial Report for the month of March 2013. Balances on March 31, 2013: General Fund $627.18; Restricted Fund $4,452.26. Total checking $5,079.44. Income for the month of March $310.00. A total of 17 Councils and Assemblies have paid their dues. Please ask your Council to include in their budget funds to go to the Nuns Build. Any amount would be appreciated. So METRO CHAPTER MEETING APRIL 17, 2013 Page 1

far we have collected a total of $1,010.00 in income and had $994.00 in expenses for the Nuns Build which gives us a $16.00 surplus. A motion to accept the treasurer s report was made by Brother Dennis Cass and seconded by Brother Paul Gagnet. Motion passed by voice vote. BILLS & COMMUNICATIONS: The Metro Chapter has filed with the IRS Form 990-N. (Tax-Exempt). Check with your Council to make sure that this form has been filed. Deadline is May 15, 2013. If not filed in a timely matter Council could lose their tax-exempt status and must start the process all over to get it. Regardless of the amount of income a Council makes, every Council must file this form. Even if the amount is $1.00. There is no longer a limit. Every Council must file this Form 990-N. SEMINARIAN REPORT: Since 1989 we had the Accompano raffle to help out the seminarians to take their summer trips. It has now been changed to the Seminarian Mission Fund. Since March 31, 2013, I have received checks from 32 Councils and one Council will send in a check. So that will total 33 check so far. I received a check from the dioceses of Alexandria for $100.00. The dioceses of Alexandria has two Councils which gave a total of $658.00. The Dioceses of Houma/Thibodeaux gave donations. The dioceses of Lafayette gave donations. The dioceses of Lake Charles gave donations. The dioceses of Baton Rouge gave donations. You can have a second collection or other drive to collect for the Seminarians. Every Grand Knight was mailed a flyer with an envelope with suggestions on how to conduct a fund drive for the seminarians. Two years ago I went with the seminarians on one of their trips. It cost me $1,200.00 to go. The most expensive part of the trip is the air transportation. Once you get there you stay at a Church or Mission. As you can see funding is very important for the seminarians to go on these summer trips. You still have until June 30, 2013 to get your Council s money in for the Mission Fund. If you get it in after that date, it will be used for the 2013 2014 Columbian Year. DUES BILLING: Starting in May, dues for the Columbian Year July 1, 2013 thru June 30, 2014 will be sent to Councils so the current Grand Knight can explain and transfer to the new Grand Knight. Make sure that your Council or Assembly puts the dues in their budget. This will be ongoing so every year it will be a budgetary expense. Please ask your Council to pay their dues in a timely matter. If your Council has not paid their dues please bring your Council s check, in the amount of $25.00, made out to KC NEW ORLEANS METROPOLITAN CHAPTER, to the next meeting on Wednesday, May 15, 2013. You may also mail your dues to: KC METRO CHAPTER, 314 ST. CHARLES AVENUE, NEW ORLEANS, LA 70130. METRO CHAPTER NEEDS NEW MEMBERS. Chapter also needs more participation in meetings and events. Applications for membership in the Metro Chapter are available from Brother David Grego. Please contact Brother David at: drgrego@bellsouth.net Talk up membership at your Councils and bring along a member of your Council who may not have attended a Chapter meeting in the past.
