Sermon Text Psalm 100:1-5

Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth! Serve the LORD with gladness! Come into his presence with singing! Know that the LORD, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! For the LORD is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.

Praise and Worship Unlocking the Praise of God in our lives

Seven Hebrew words for Praise: -Tehillah -Shabach -Towdah -Zamar -Yadah -Barak -Halal

Tehillah: -To praise -A song or hymn of praise

Psalm 40:3 He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise (tehillah) to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the LORD. Psalm 51:15O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise (tehillah). Psalm 71:6 Upon you I have leaned from before my birth; you are he who took me from my mother's womb.my praise (tehillah) is continually of you.

Shabach: -To address in a loud tone -To praise amidst trials

Psalm 63:3 Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise (shabach) you. Psalm 106:47 Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from among the nations, that we may give thanks to your holy name and glory (shabach) in your praise. Psalm 145:4 One generation shall commend (shabach) your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts.

Towdah: -hymn of praise -sacrifice of thanksgiving

Psalm 69:30 I will praise the name of God with a song; I will magnify him with thanksgiving (towdah). Psalm 95:2 Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving (towdah); let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! Psalm 116:17 I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving (towdah) and call on the name of the LORD.

Zamar: -Sing praise -Make music -To play a musical instrument

Psalm 144:9I will sing a new song to you, O God; upon a ten-stringed harp I will play (zamar) to you, Psalm 47:7 For God is the King of all the earth; sing praises (zamar) with a psalm! Psalm 71:22 I will also praise you with the harp for your faithfulness, O my God; I will sing praises (zamar) to you with the lyre, O Holy One of Israel.

Yadah: -Thanksgiving -Opposite To bemoan with wringing hands -To revere or worship with extended hands

Psalm 52:9 I will thank (yadah) you forever, because you have done it. I will wait for your name, for it is good, in the presence of the godly. Psalm 79:13But we your people, the sheep of your pasture, will give thanks (yadah) to you forever; from generation to generation we will recount your praise. Psalm 139:14 I praise you (yadah), for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.

Barak: -To kneel -To bless God

Psalm 68:35 Awesome is God from his sanctuary; the God of Israel he is the one who gives power and strength to his people. Blessed (barak) be God! Psalm 95:6 Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel (barak) before the LORD, our Maker! Psalm 103:21 Bless (barak) the LORD, all his hosts, his ministers, who do his will!

Halal: -To shine -To praise -To boast -To make a fool of -To be clamorously foolish

Psalm 69:34 Let heaven and earth praise (halal) him, the seas and everything that moves in them. Psalm 74:21 Let not the downtrodden turn back in shame; let the poor and needy praise (halal) your name. Psalm 84:4 Blessed are those who dwell in your house, ever singing your praise (halal)! Selah Psalm 113:3 From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the LORD is to be praised (halal)!

Psalm 100:4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless him name!

Lord, unbridle our imagination today. Give us fresh, open eyes to see and respond to the creative expressions of praise found in scripture. We lay down our hindrances and distractions and say Here we are and You are good
