Loving our neighbor as ourselves Wednesday, April 25, 2018 I John 3:11 this, 18 let us 11 this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. 18 let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. Gal. 5:25 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Gal. 5:22 1st the, 23 22 the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. Rom. 13:10 love is 10 love is the fulfilling of the law. Luke 8:40 (to :) 40 And it came to pass, that, when Jesus was returned, the people gladly received him: Luke 10:23-37 23 And he turned him unto his disciples, and said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see: 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 For I tell you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them. And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou? And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live. But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour? And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. https://www.concordworks.com/concord/print/print.sp 1/8
32 33 34 35 36 37 And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side. But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee. Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves? And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise. Luke 6:36 36 Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful. II Cor. 13:11 and the 11 and the God of love and peace shall be with you. Matt. 13:34 34 All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them: Matt. 25:31, 34-40 31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: 34 35 36 37 38 39 40 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was an hungered, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungered, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. 4 5 6 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; SH 138:27-30 27 Our Master said to every follower: Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature!... Heal the sick!... Love thy neighbor as 30 thyself! Healthful theology SH 256:7 Love, the divine Principle, is the Father and Mother of the universe, including man. SH 266:18 Universal 18 Universal Love is the divine way in Christian Science. SH 192:27-29, 30 27 We walk in the footsteps of Truth and Love by follow ing the example of our Master in the understanding of divine metaphysics. Whatever holds human thought in line with unselfed love, receives directly the divine power. SH 15:26-27 Self-forgetfulness, 27 purity, and affection are constant prayers. SH 518:15 19 The rich in spirit help the poor in one grand brotherhood, all having the same Principle, or Father; and blessed is that man who seeth 18 his brother s need and supplieth it, seeking his own in another s good. SH 234:4-8 Whatever inspires with wisdom, Truth, or Love be it song, sermon, or Science blesses the human family 6 with crumbs of comfort from Christ s table, feeding the hungry and giving living waters to the thirsty. Father s loving-kindness. SH 306:25 Undisturbed amid the jarring testimony of the material senses, Science, still enthroned, is unfolding 27 to mortals the immutable, harmonious, divine Principle, is unfolding Life and the universe, ever present and eternal. SH 195:11-12 The point for each one to decide is, whether it is mortal 12 mind or immortal Mind that is causative. SH 201:17-18 The way to extract error from mortal mind is to pour 18 in truth through flood-tides of Love. Useful knowledge SH 592:25-26 OIL. Consecration; charity; gentleness; prayer; heav enly inspiration. SH 598:17 (only) WINE. Inspiration; understanding. SH 79:31-32 Giving does not impoverish us in the service of our Maker, neither does withholding enrich us. SH 43:32 Love (only) Love must triumph over hate. SH 234:12-16 We should love our enemies and help them on the basis of the Golden Rule; but avoid casting pearls before those who trample 15 them under foot, thereby robbing both themselves and others. SH 569:3-5 Every mortal at some period, here or hereafter, must grapple with and overcome the mortal belief in a power opposed to God. SH 192:23-24 (to 1st.) 24 the poor. SH 66:10-11 Trials are proofs of God s care. SH 294:29-32 (to.) The thief believes that he gains something by steal 30 ing, and the hypocrite that he is hiding himself. The Science of Mind corrects such mistakes, for Truth demon strates the falsity of error. SH 542:7-8 Truth, through her eternal laws, unveils error. SH 239:11-13 The wicked man is not the ruler of his upright 12 neighbor. Let it be understood that success in error is defeat in Truth. SH 293:28-31 Christian Science brings to light Truth and its supremacy, universal har 30 mony, the entireness of God, good, and the nothingness of evil. SH 234:9 12 9 We should become more familiar with good than with evil, and guard against false beliefs as watchfully as we bar our doors against the approach of thieves 12 and murderers. Hospitality to health and good SH 571:10-11 Who is telling mankind of the foe in ambush? SH 92:26 The foundation of evil is laid on a belief 27 in something besides God. This belief tends to support two opposite powers, instead of urging the claims of Truth alone. The mistake of thinking that error can be real, 30 when it is merely the absence of truth, leads to belief in the superiority of error. SH 469:13-17 The The exterminator of error is the great truth that God, good, is the only Mind, and 15 that the supposititious opposite of infinite Mind called devil or evil is not Mind, is not https://www.concordworks.com/concord/print/print.sp 5/8
Truth, but error, without intelligence or reality. SH 205:22-27 When we realize that there is one Mind, the divine law of loving our neighbor as ourselves is unfolded; 24 whereas a belief in many ruling minds hinders man s normal drift towards the one Mind, one God, and leads human thought into opposite channels 27 where selfishness reigns. SH 289:9-13 To suppose that sin, lust, hatred, envy, hypocrisy, revenge, have life abiding in them, is a terrible mistake. Life 12 and Life s idea, Truth and Truth s idea, never make men sick, sinful, or mortal. True sense of infinitude Redemption from selfishness Wickedness is not man SH 451:2 5 Christian Scientists must live under the con 3 stant pressure of the apostolic command to come out from the material world and be separate. They must re nounce aggression, oppression and the pride of power. SH 480:2-5 480:1 Where 3 the spirit of God is, and there is no place where God is not, evil becomes nothing, the opposite of the some thing of Spirit. SH 574:27-30 30 The very circumstance, which your suffering sense deems wrathful and afflictive, Love can make an angel entertained unawares. SH 298:28-30 Angels are pure thoughts from God, winged with Truth and Love, no matter what their indi 30 vidualism may be. SH 299:15-17 By giving earnest heed to these spiritual guides they tarry with us, and we entertain angels unawares. SH 567:3 These (only, to 2nd.) These angels deliver us from the depths. https://www.concordworks.com/concord/print/print.sp 6/8
SH 239:16-22 To ascertain our progress, we must learn where our affections are placed and whom we acknowledge and 18 obey as God. If divine Love is becoming nearer, dearer, and more real to us, matter is then submitting to Spirit. The objects we pursue and 21 the spirit we manifest reveal our standpoint, and show what we are winning. Standpoint revealed SH 248:29-32 Let unselfishness, goodness, mercy, justice, 30 health, holiness, love the kingdom of heaven reign within us, and sin, disease, and death will diminish until they finally disappear. SH 496:9-14 Ask 9 Ask yourself: Am I living the life that approaches the supreme good? Am I demonstrating the healing power of 12 Truth and Love? If so, then the way will grow brighter unto the perfect day. Your fruits will prove what the understanding of God brings to man. Condition of progress SH 496:5-8 You will learn 6 that in Christian Science the first duty is to obey God, to have one Mind, and to love another as yourself. SH 467:9-13 9 It should be thoroughly understood that all men have one Mind, one God and Father, one Life, Truth, and Love. Mankind will become perfect in proportion as this fact 12 becomes apparent, war will cease and the true brother hood of man will be established. SH 55:16-21 15 My weary hope tries to realize that happy day, when man shall 18 recognize the Science of Christ and love his neighbor as himself, when he shall realize God s omnipotence and the healing power of the divine Love in what it has done 21 and is doing for mankind. SH 224:31 (only, to 2nd.) No power can withstand divine Love. https://www.concordworks.com/concord/print/print.sp 7/8
