I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, if anyone steadfastly believes in Me, he will himself be able to do the things that I do; and he will do even greater things than these, because I go to the Father (John 14:12, Amplified Bible). Go to the lost, confused people right here in the neighborhood. Tell them that the kingdom is here. Bring health to the sick. Raise the dead. Touch the untouchables. Kick out the demons. You have been treated generously, so live generously (Matthew 10:5-8, The Message). Anyone who claims to be intimate with God ought to live the same kind of life Jesus lived (1 John 2:6, The Message). And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the day of judgment, but we can face him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world (1 John 4:18 New Living Translation). 3

KEY VERSE: And the remnant who have escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward and bear fruit upward (2 Kings 19:30). INTRODUCTION: At the commencement of His public ministry, the Lord Jesus Christ quoted in part Isaiah chapter 61. The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; 19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD (Luke 4:18-19). When Christ Jesus was on the earth, the Bible says that He went around doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil (Acts 10:38). He came preaching the Good Tidings of the Gospel to poor. He ministered deliverance to prisoners, healing to the brokenhearted, and recovery of sight to the blind! For what purpose? Back to Isaiah 61:3: That we might be...trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified. We are called to be trees of righteousness - God's planting, for the purpose of glorifying Him. The Hebrew word translated tree is literally a strong tree like an oak tree. 6
God want us to be established and rooted in Christ's character. He has called us to be firmly planted in His righteousness so that we may bear much fruit to His glory! We are oaks of righteousness, not tumble weeds! The Necessity of Bearing Fruit The New Testament is clear that God demands fruit in His people: Matthew 3:10, And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. John 15:8, By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. John 15:16, You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain. Matthew 7:17-20, Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them. One of the most overlooked definitions of fruit is that it is a manifestation of the life inherent in the tree! Checking the Root System In spite of the fact that Jesus demands fruit from His people, we are not expected to bear that fruit by our own efforts. Our responsibility is merely to watch over the root system of our lives, ensuring that it is healthy and the Lord will produce an abundant yield of fruit! In the natural, the secret to ensuring a harvest of rich luxuriant fruitful is the health and vitality of the root system. This is also true as it relates to the Christian walk....and if the root is holy, so are the branches (Romans 11:16). We must have healthy roots that are planted firmly in Christ if we are to display the fruit of the Spirit to our world. There are two specific things that can hinder a harvest of fruit that we need to be aware of: 7
1. Shallow Roots: life. And the remnant that has escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward and bear fruit upward (2 Kings 19:30). Note that the remnant people spoken of by the prophet produce much fruit as a direct result of them having deep roots. As we are established and rooted in Him, we will manifest an abundance of fruit for His glory even in the most difficult and dry seasons of Rest assured that if your roots reach deep you will bear fruit even in the most adverse circumstances and condition in life. The iron-clad promise of the Lord is, But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green and they never stop producing fruit (Jeremiah 17:7-8 New Living Translation). A tree has what is known as a tap-root. When a lengthy drought is experienced and the water in the ground dissipates, that root tirelessly tunnels through the ground deeper and deeper until it locates water. We are in a season right now where the hot desert winds of adversity and opposition are blowing fiercely. The only way we are going to prevail is by extending our roots deeper drawing from the cool, subterranean waters of life that flow from beneath the throne of God. It is not enough to merely resist the devil; we must first be submitted to God (See James 4:7). Regardless of how close you have been to the Lord, the call in this hour is to go deeper still! As you do you will experience a remarkable renewing....their leaves stay green and they never stop producing fruit (Jeremiah 17:8).
