FROM THE EVANGELISM MINISTRY As we continue our series on questions and objections the evangelist may need to consider, today we offer for your consideration, The Key to Reaching the Lost, written by Charles Spurgeon. [The primary reference is The Evidence Bible, Bridge-Logos, Gainesville, Florida, Publisher.] The Key to Reaching the Lost (PART I) Have you ever thought, There must be a key to reaching the lost? There is--- and it s rusty through lack of use. The Bible does actually call it the key, and its purpose is to bring us to Christ, to unlock the Door of the Savior (John 10:9). Much of the Church still doesn t even know it exists. Not only is it biblical, but it can be shown through history that the Church used it to unlock the doors of revival. The problem is that it was lost around the turn of the twentieth century. Keys have a way of getting lost. Jesus used it. So did Paul (Romans 3:19, 20), Timothy (1 Timothy 1:8-11), and James (James 2:10). Stephen used it when he preached (Acts 7:53). Peter found that it had been used to open the door to release 3,000 imprisoned souls on the Day of Pentecost. Jesus said that the lawyers had taken away the key, and even refused to use it to let people enter into the kingdom of God. The Pharisees didn t take it away. Instead, they bent it out of shape so that it wouldn t do its work (Mark 7:8). Jesus returned it to its true shape, just as the Scriptures prophesied that He would do (Isaiah 42:21). Satan has tried to prejudice the modern Church against the key. He has maligned it, misused it, twisted it, and, of course, hidden it---he hates it because of what it does. Perhaps you are wondering what this key is. I will tell you. All I ask is that you set aside your traditions and prejudices and look at what God s Word says on the subject. Part II (continued next week). The Evangelism Ministry Team Meetings, open to all, are in recess until September. 9

FROM THE EVANGELISM MINISTRY Excerpts from "The Evidence Bible" by Bridge-Logos Publishers A FINAL WORD ABOUT GOSPEL TRACTS..Sowing the Seed of the Gospel A student at Jacksonville University in Florida was given a tract. The student crumpled the pamphlet up and tossed it into a trash bin in his dorm. Later, his dorm mate picked it out of the trash, read it, and was soundly saved. He is now a pastor of a church in Florida. "A Christian I met in a home group said his job was raking litter off the Avon River. It was dull, boring work and he often wondered what life was all about. One day he raked a soggy piece of paper off the water and decided it was interesting enough to keep, so he carefully placed it in his bag and took it home. That evening he dried the paper in front of a heater and carefully unfolded it, then he read it it was a gospel tract. He became a Christian that evening." Richard Gunther. "Nothing surpasses a tract for sowing the seed of the Good News." Billy Graham. Some Ideas Where to Leave Tracts: At pay phones In shopping carts In clothes pockets in stores In letters to loved ones With a generous tip On seats in restaurant lobbies With fast-food employees, cashiers, flight attendants, cab drivers, and gas station workers In restrooms At rest areas On ATM machines and bank counters In envelopes with bill payments In elevators On hotel dressers for the maid On ice machines On newspaper racks In waiting rooms of doctors' offices and hospitals On seats at airports, subways, and bus stations In plane seat pockets Inside magazines In cabs In Laundromats If you have tracts that you would like to share with the Evangelism Ministry. Please contact Deacon Mary McLean, @ 301-340-0021. 10
