WORSHIP CELEBRATION January 17, 2016 God requires to be represented by a fiery church, or he is not in any proper sense, represented at all. God, himself, is all on fire, and his church, if it is to be like him, must also be at white heat. (E.M. Boundas GATHERING BEFORE GOD We are invited into the presence of God! *Please turn your cell phones off* Please sign the register book & pass it on. PRELUDE HYMNS OF PRAISE Mary Bivens Worship Facilitator HYMN #78 Great Is Thy Faithfulness HYMN #75 There Is a Redeemer GREETING ONE ANOTHER HEARING FROM GOD We give our attention to God by opening our lives to His Word! We invite God s Spirit to take this Word into our lives that we might be formed into the image and likeness of Jesus! ANNOUNCEMENTS Marilyn Smith MEMORY VERSE OF THE MONTH The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. (1 Timothy 1:5) ELIM CHOIR Mary, Did You Know? CHILDREN S SERMON (Children dismissed for Children s Church, please for ages 3 thru 5 th grade only). WORDS FROM GOD 2 Timothy 1:6-14 Scripture Reader, Shannon Pirmann (Pages 1178 or 1248 in the red Bibles)

MESSAGE Faith Overhaul: #3 Passion Pastor Steve Peterson RESPONDING TO GOD Now that God has spoken to us, it is time for us to speak to Him! PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE OFFERTORY OFFERING OUR GIFTS TO GOD BEING SENT BY GOD God sends us out into the world that he desperately loves. His presence goes with us. We leave as God s agents of grace and mercy. HYMN #2 As the Deer BENEDICTION Scripture Readings for the Week Sunday Galatians 5:22 Monday Philippians 1:11 Tuesday 1 Corinthians 15:10 Wednesday Acts 14:26-27 Thursday Galatians 6:7-8 Friday 2 Peter 1:4 Saturday John 15:4-5 TODAY S GREETERS Rolland & Joann Potts HEAD USHER Mike Hermann USHERS Chris Carsell, Jim Nelson, Zach Stulir SOUND SYSTEM Don Yoeckel

Faith Overhaul: #3- Passion 2 Timothy 1:6-14 Key Text: Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord (Rom. 12:11) Key Thought: In order to overhaul our faith, we need to fan into flame our passion for God and our devotion to Him. 1) Intro & Context 2) DESIRE (passion, zeal, fervor) (cf. Ps. 69:9; Rom. 12:11; 1 Cor. 15:10; 2 Tim. 1:6-7) The fiery souls are those who conquer in the day of battle, from whom the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and who take it by force. The citadel of God is taken only by those, who storm it in dreadful earnestness, who besiege it, with fiery, unabated zeal. (E.M. Bounds) 3) DETERMINATION (conviction, single-minded, dauntless) (cf. Isa. 50:7; 1 Cor. 9:24-27; 1 Ths. 1:5; 2 Tim. 1:12) Therefore, I set my face like flint (Isa. 50:7) 4) DEVOTION (faithfulness, allegiance, consecration) (cf. Gal. 5:22; 1 Pt. 1:13-15; Rev. 2:10) But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do (1 Pt. 1:15) 5) The alternative (cf. Mt. 10:32-39; Rev. 3:15-16) two things are intolerable to [God] insincerity and lukewarmness. Lack of heart and lack of heat are two things he loathes (E.M. Bounds) 6) Conclusion Questions for Reflection: What is the temperature of your passion for God? Knowing what God desires of us, what do you need to do in order to fan into flame your faith? What, if anything, is holding you back? Who can you share that with?
