OPEN INVITATIONS MISSION OPPORTUNITIES Upward Bound House Home Run for Kids Registration is now open for the 6th Annual Home Run for Kids Walk/Run in the Brentwood community of West Los Angeles. This is a great opportunity for kids and parents alike to work together to solve family homelessness, a growing crisis across Los Angeles. Register on the website under First United Methodist Church. Prayer Quilt Ministry The Prayer Quilt Ministry is an outreach ministry that combines the gift of prayer with the gift of a hand-tied quilt. There are a number of ways to be involved: When a prayer quilt is hanging in the Sanctuary come tie a knot and say a prayer. Remember the recipients in your prayers in the following days. And join the ministry for work and fellowship on the third Saturday of each month from 9:30 a.m. to noon. You don t have to know how to sew to help. Next meeting: Saturday, February 17, 9:30 a.m. 12 p.m., Room 300 Lectionary Scripture Discussion A lectionary is a collection of readings or selections from the Scriptures, arranged and intended for proclamation during the worship of the people of God. The lectionary provides a guide to those who wish to read, study, and pray the Bible in tune with the church s prayer and preaching. Center your mind by joining the conversation! The coffee is hot and the discussion is engaging. Come and go as you need and prepare for worship with deeper insight and understanding. LOOKING FORWARD Ash Wednesday Services Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent - a time of introspection and self-examination of our lives and relationship with God. The ritual of the ashes represent a visual reminder of the day as we pause to remember our physical limits in contrast to the infinity of God. Here at First UMC, we offer two Ash Wednesday services in the Chapel. The ashes used for the services come from the burned palms of last year s Palm Sunday Service. We invite you to this intimate and reflective service that marks the beginning of the Lenten season. Ash Wednesday: Wednesday, February 14 12:30 p.m. & 7:30 p.m., in the Chapel YOUTH/SCOUT SUNDAY FOCUS ON January 28, 2018 This Sunday we celebrate and worship our wonderful God, while being led by our youth, those in grades 6-12. Our youth ministry at First United Methodist Church is an important part of the life of our church community. Our youth continue to inspire us and lead us all in their discipleship of Jesus Christ. Today our seniors, Will Buxton, Owen Ing and Emma Wollitz will deliver sermons and our Youth Choir led by Jack McHugh, will sing. We hope you are inspired during our worship to make room for God in your life and heart as well! We have our weekly United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF) meeting Sunday evenings from 6-8:30 p.m. Youth Choir practices from 6-6:30 p.m. in the Choir Room, followed by everyone coming together for dinner, games and a program. The youth participate as Lay Lectors, Acolytes and Crucifers during the 10 a.m. Sanctuary worship. Additionally, we have our Youth Service Project every summer where we serve for a week doing home repairs or re-building across the nation. Prayer Quilt Ministry The Prayer Quilt Ministry is an outreach ministry that combines the gift of prayer with the gift of a hand-tied quilt. There are a number of ways to be involved: When a prayer quilt is hanging in the Sanctuary come tie a knot and say a prayer. Remember the recipients in your prayers in the following days. And join the ministry for work and fellowship on the third Saturday of each month from 9:30 a.m. to noon. You don t have to know how to sew to help. LOOKING FORWARD Ash Wednesday Services Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent - a time of introspection and self-examination of our lives and relationship with God. The ritual of the ashes represent a visual reminder of the day as we pause to remember our physical limits in contrast to the infinity of God. Here at First UMC, we offer two Ash Wednesday services in the Chapel. The ashes used for the services come from the burned palms of last year s Palm Sunday Service. We invite you to this intimate and reflective service that marks the beginning of the Lenten season. Ash Wednesday: Wednesday, February 14 12:30 p.m. & 7:30 p.m., in the Chapel YOUTH/SCOUT SUNDAY FOCUS ON January 28, 2018 This Sunday we celebrate and worship our wonderful God, while being led by our youth, those in grades 6-12. Our youth ministry at First United Methodist Church is an important part of the life of our church community. Our youth continue to inspire us and lead us all in their discipleship of Jesus Christ. Today our seniors, Will Buxton, Owen Ing and Emma Wollitz will deliver sermons and our Youth Choir led by Jack McHugh, will sing. We hope you are inspired during our worship to make room for God in your life and heart as well! We have our weekly United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF) meeting Sunday evenings from 6-8:30 p.m. Youth Choir practices from 6-6:30 p.m. in the Choir Room, followed by everyone coming together for dinner, games and a program. The youth participate as Lay Lectors, Acolytes and Crucifers during the 10 a.m. Sanctuary worship. Additionally, we have our Youth Service Project every summer where we serve for a week doing home repairs or re-building across the nation.
