There are many parish based celebrations occurring over Easter. It begins on Sunday, with Palm Sunday and then Holy Thursday, this commemorates the Last Supper. It is a time of thanksgiving for the gift of the Eucharist. The Gospel story recalls Jesus at the Last Supper during which he washes his disciple s feet. Through this action, He calls his disciples, and us, into service of all people. Good Friday is a time to remember the death of Jesus on the cross. It is not a time to mourn, but to celebrate the meaning of Jesus death. The Easter Vigil is the most solemn and important of all the Church s celebrations. It is the feast of Christ s resurrection. Finally, on Easter Sunday we celebrate Christ s resurrection, His rising from death to life. The mystery of the resurrection is central to our faith. An outline of the Parish Easter Celebrations is on page 2. The whole school will gather in week 11 to recall the events of Holy Week and be led in reflection by our year 5 students. We will gather in the church at 9:00am on Monday April 10, 11:30am on Tuesday April 11 and 2:15pm on Thursday, April 13. DOWN SYNDROME AWARENESS DAY As part of World Down Syndrome Awareness Day on March 21, two of our students, Diana and Sarah planted a tree in our creek bed area. On this day, people with Down Syndrome and those who live and work with them throughout the world raise public awareness and create a single global voice for advocating for the rights, inclusion and wellbeing of people with Down Syndrome. At Stella Maris we are committed to the inclusion of all and celebrated the unique gifts each person brings to our community. PROJECT COMPASSION FUN RUN A reminder that next Friday students will be taking part in a Fun Run to support Project Compassion. The year 5 students will be joining other senior students from the region at Marymount and the rest of the school will be at the park or running around the block depending on their year level. All are invited to attend and cheer the children along. 1 Syme Ave, Seacombe Gardens SA 5047 Phone: 8296 3928 Fax: 8377 2232 contact@smps.catholic.edu.au www.smps.catholic.edu.au facebook.com/stellamarisparishschool Yours sincerely, Sean Hill PRINCIPAL Last Day of Term 1 Thursday, April 13 3:00pm finish
