YOUTH COUNCIL INFORMATION AND APPLICATION FORMS Welcome to the process of applying for the Crossfire Youth Council Serving as a member of the Shady Grove UMC Council on Youth Ministries is an important and serious responsibility and commitment. You will be providing leadership for the youth in the church as well as being a part of the team that directs the ministry that our church offers to youth of our community. Please take this application seriously and consider as you fill it out whether or not you feel that God is calling you to be a part of our leadership team and discuss this with your parents. Serving on the Council on Youth Ministries will be a fun and rewarding experience for those who take is seriously and commit to being a part of it. Youth Council Applicants: 1. Youth Council Members will be expected to attend all meetings of the Youth Council unless cleared by Shanel. 2. The first youth council meeting will be held on August 24th, in the youth center at 5pm. 3. Starting in September 2015, meetings will be held the 2nd Monday of the month, from 7-8pm. 4. Additional commitments are included in the job descriptions for each position. 2015-2016 Youth Council Positions PRESIDENT, Council on Youth Ministries: The Youth Council President must be entering either 11th or 12th grade. The Youth Council President will: Preside over all Youth Council meetings. Work with the youth staff person to coordinate communication amongst the COYM and providing leadership in seeing that SGUMC offers a well balanced youth ministry program. Represent youth on Church Council and Program Interface. VICE-PRESIDENT, Council on Youth Ministries: The Youth Council Vice-President must be entering either 11th or 12th grade. The Youth Council Vice-President will: Preside over Youth Council meetings in the absence of the President. Be responsible for taking minutes at COYM meetings. MIDDLE SCHOOL REPRESENTATIVES (will consist of 2 middle school students): This position is opened to anyone in grades 6th-8th. Youth Council Middle School Representatives will: Represent middle school interests on the council. SOCIAL MEDIA SPECIALIST The Youth Social Media Specialist will: Manage and maintain youth media communications, i.e., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. RICHMOND DISTRICT YOUTH COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVE The Youth Council Richmond District Rep will: Serve on the RDYC and keep Shady Grove informed on what is going on at the District level. CHILDREN S COUNCIL LIAISON The Youth Council Children s Council Liaison will: Serve on both the Youth Council and Children s Council, providing both groups with updates on the other s activities and plans. WORSHIP COORDINATOR The Youth Council Worship Coordinator will: Serve as liaison between COYM and SGUMC Worship Committee. Represent Youth Sunday Design Team, Youth Band, and Youth Choir on the COYM.
COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR (NEW POSITION) The Youth Council Communications Coordinator will: Be responsible for typing up any announcements for any activities that are planned during the Youth Council meeting. Work with the youth staff person to put together the video announcements,that will play before the Crossfire worship service begins. EDUCATION COORDINATOR The Youth Council Education Coordinator will: Serve as liaison between COYM and SGUMC Education Committee. Work with the youth staff person to coordinate youth Bible studies and other educational opportunities. MISSIONS COORDINATOR The Youth Council Mission Coordinator will: Serve as liaison between COYM and SGUMC Missions Committee. Chair the Youth Missions Committee. Work with the youth staff person to coordinate summer mission trips. NURTURE COORDINATOR The Youth Nurture Coordinator will: Serve as liaison between COYM and SGUMC Nurture Committee. Chair design teams for nurture events for SGUMC s youth ministries. WITNESS COORDINATOR The Youth Council Witness Coordinator will: Serve as liaison between COYM and SGUMC Outreach Committee. Take a lead role in making sure that Shady Grove has a welcoming atmosphere in all of its youth activities.
