Volume 4, Issue 12 December 2016 HABITAT FOR HUMANITY MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF NORTH AUGUSTA By Tom Ellers, President Habitat for Humanity of North Augusta The 2016 Holiday season is upon us and we have many reasons to rejoice. We dedicated our 17th house this year and the Brooke Cosnahan family is preparing to enjoy their first Christmas in their own home. We ve been very fortunate to recruit some new board members who are eager to contribute to our all volunteer board, adding a new vitality and fresh ideas. While mentioning volunteer board members, I must also give thanks to the many volunteers who have given of their time on Saturdays and Mondays to provide the labor and skills required to build our houses. I would especially like to mention the cadre of young service members from Fort Gordon, and the not so young from Mount Vintage who have contributed hundreds of hours to make someone s dream come true. Our Vision A world where everyone has a decent place to live. Our Mission Statement Seeking to put God s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. If you are interested in partnering with Habitat for Humanity of North Augusta as a potential homeowner of House Number 18, you may complete an application online at www.hfhna.org Call (803) 613-0305 for an application Continued on page 2 I N S I D E T H I S I S S U E 1 Message from the President 2 3 4 5 A Christmas Message / Home Ownership Sponsor Recognition Who we are / Upcoming events Sponsors Newsletter 1

The support received from community businesses, churches and individuals has been most generous. Some have increased their involvement over past years and others have just joined us this year in helping to provide decent housing for those in need. Without them we could not do what we do. It is my hope for 2017 to redouble our effort in reaching out to those who live in substandard housing in our community. Studies show that families are more productive citizens and children do better in school when the home is a decent place to live. Wishing all of you a blessed holiday season and new year! A Christmas Message By Gene Carline, HFHNA Community Relations During the Holiday Season, we tend to be busy buying gifts for our friends and love ones but sometimes we neglect the true meaning of Christmas. Christmas is about bringing Jesus to each and everyone s home and sharing with the ones who need it the most. This Christmas, help us to put a smile on a local family in need and let us open their hearts and inspire them to hope, love and have faith in the coming of our Lord, Jesus Christ. I believe Christmas is for everyone, regardless of social status or religion. Christmas may come once a year but filling the hearts of the people in need, will be cherished forever. By continuing to support Habitat for Humanity of North Augusta, you will be helping by making a significant difference in the lives of Habitat families in our community. Your donation will help families break the cycle of poverty and build long-term financial security. With an affordable, stable home, families have more to spend on food, medicine, child care, education and other essentials. Your support can help us make house no.18 a reality. On behalf of these individuals, we sincerely thank you for your contributions. Interested in Becoming a Homeowner? Thank you for your interest in becoming a Habitat homeowner. We believe that everyone should have a safe, affordable place to call home. To carry out our vision, we partner with individuals and families from application through construction to when the keys are handed over. By working with us from beginning to end, we can help prospective individuals prepare for the various responsibilities of homeownership, including learning about personal finances, mortgages, maintenance and upkeep of homes, and much more. Habitat s path to homeownership is an important and in-depth process, requiring hard work, time and dedication. This helps to ensure the long-term success of Habitat homeowners. How to qualify for a Habitat home Habitat homeowners must be active participants in building a better home and future for themselves and their families. Every Habitat home is an investment. For us, it is one answer to a critical need, and we believe that stronger homes will create stronger communities. Prospective Habitat homeowners must demonstrate a need for safe, affordable housing. Once selected, Habitat homeowners must partner with us throughout the process. This partnership includes performing sweat equity, or helping to build their own home or the homes of others in our homeownership program. Sweat equity can also include taking homeownership classes or performing volunteer work. Homeowners must also be able and willing to pay an affordable mortgage. Mortgage payments are cycled back into the community to help build additional Habitat houses. If you are interested in partnering with Habitat for Humanity of North Augusta as a potential homeowner of House Number 18, you may complete an application online at www.hfhna.org Call (803) 613-0305 for an application Newsletter 2
