GOSPEL MEDITATION FOR THE SECOND SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. We hear a very similar version of this in every Mass. Our Gospel today tells us the role of John the Baptist was to make known Jesus, the Lamb of God. Who has helped you to recognize Christ in your life? How does your life direct others to Christ?

REFLECTION ON THE WORD: SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Isaiah reminds us in today s first reading that God has said that we are his servants, through whom he shows his glory. But, it is too little, God tells us, for you to be my servant...i will make you a light to the nations, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth. This is a wonderful thing, but one that we should accept knowing that it is also a great responsibility. God shows his glory through us. Our lives should always reflect that. We are made in his image, and asked by him to reflect his light onto all nations. The gospel reading for this Sunday recounts Jesus meeting with John the Baptist. It provides us with a lesson in heeding, and acting on, what God has said to us. John the Baptist was told to look for a sign that the Son of God had come; on whomever you see the Spirit come down and remain, he is the one who will Baptize with the Holy Spirit. Jesus is that person. John the Baptist tells us, I have seen and testified that he is the Son of God. God the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit has come to us and will remain forever. Let us go into the new year singing the new song that God has given us, Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. ADORATION: A TREASURE OF THE FAITH Suppose you were told that Jesus wanted to meet with you personally here at your parish for an hour each week. What if Jesus wanted to meet you in the flesh? Who would say no to such an invitation? The Church and her leaders have taught for ages that Jesus waits for us in the Eucharist. Venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen saw Adoration as an act of true obedience and friendship with the living Christ. The only time our Lord asked the Apostles for anything was the night He went into agony. Not for activity did he plead but for an hour of companionship. St. Ferdinand and Good Shepherd parishes are in need of adorers at the times listed below. Please consider investing your time in the True Presence of Christ. Will you spend an hour with Jesus at your parish? ST. FERDINAND WEDNESDAYS FROM 1:00 P.M. 6:00 P.M. GOOD SHEPHERD THURSDAYS FROM 3:00 P.M. 6:00 P.M. Contact adoration@stferdinandblanco.org to sign up! SAINT OF THE WEEK: JOHN THE BAPTIST John the Baptist was a contemporary of Christ who was known for evangelization and his baptizing of Jesus Christ. John the Baptist was born through the intercession of God to Zachariah and Elizabeth, who was otherwise too old to bear children. When Elizabeth was pregnant with John, she was visited by Mary, and John leapt in her womb. This revealed to Elizabeth that the child Mary carried was to be the Son of God. John began public ministry around 30 AD. When Jesus came to him to be baptized, John recognized him and said, It is I who need baptism from you. Jesus told John to baptize Him anyway, beginning Jesus public life. John instructed his followers to turn to Christ, calling Him the Lamb of God and these people were among the first Christians. John the Baptist died sometime between 33 and 36 AD. and his feast day is June 24th.
