NAZARETH COMMUNITY OF CARE CHRISTCHURCH - NEWSLETTER September 2018 Dear Friends, No winter lasts forever, no spring skips its turn. Hal Borland. WELCOME TO SPRING SEASON EVERYONE! Spring: Is a season of new beginning It breathes new life into the world around us It s a lovely reminder of how beautiful change can truly be As we enter into spring months of the year, it s a great time to reflect and enjoy the changing seasons. We need to celebrate our success and acknowledge any opportunities for improvement. We celebrate JUSTICE as the Core Value of this month, and according to William Godwin (British Philosopher), It is the Sum of all Moral duties. So, with all hopes, as members of the Nazareth Community, we will invite and encourage each other to contribute and to use any opportunity to demonstrate justice through whatever work we do. We can make a difference by being a voice not an echo. Thank you for your ongoing love and support through different ways to ensure the service we provide is mission driven, meet set expectations and goals, and most of all, is making Nazareth House a spiritual and homely dwelling place for our residents, our staff and all those who are associate with us. Those who bring sunshine to the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves. James Matthew Barrie (Author) Little smile: Q: What did the tree say to spring? A: What a re-leaf Enjoy the beauty of nature in spring and may God bless you all. Sr Telesia Taavao Sister of Nazareth Love, Compassion, Patience, Justice, Respect, Hospitality

Pastoral Care Spring season is all about new life and enjoying the changing colors of nature. Bishop Paul Martin will visit Nazareth on 19 September 2018, will celebrate the 10am Mass followed by the morning tea in the Liffre Hall. Everyone is welcome. Please RSVP to Bel at 3741900 before the 14th of September for catering purposes. The Young Vinnies are from Cathedral College. They will come on the last Saturday of each month to provide voluntary service for the residents and employees. We are truly grateful for their generosity. We are also grateful to all the volunteers for their ongoing support in assisting the residents to mass and in other services. A reminder that the Holy Hour for the residents are held in the small chapel in the First Floor on Tuesday and Thursday from 3 4pm. Mass at 10am as usual and Communion is available for those who are unable to attend Mass. A special welcome to all new residents and employees. Enjoy God s creation in spring and may His blessing be upon you and your family. Sr Telesia Care Corner Deborah Collins Care Services Manager Resident satisfaction surveys are now collated and most of you will have seen the graph and summary sent out by email. I am delighted that the overall positive response indicates a high degree of satisfaction with care and service delivery here at Nazareth House. The survey summary will be outlined at the next resident/whanau meeting on Thursday September 27th. Where specific examples have been given for improvement these have been directed to the manager of the areas they apply to. Our Unit Manager on the first floor, Nilsane, has now left Nazareth House. We thank her for her time here. We welcome Kristian Rubi to an acting Unit Manager role until a full time Unit Manager is recruited in Nilsane s place. Kristian has been working on night shift on the first floor until now, so is very familiar with our residents needs. We fully support Kristian in this temporary role and thank him for his commitment to Nazareth House. 2 n patience justice respect hospitality love ` compassion patience justice respect tience justice respect hospitality love compassion patience justice respect respect hospitality love

Wellbeing Team Patsy Bowden Wellbeing Coordinator The last month of winter YEAH!!! it has been a wonderful winter. All residents enjoyed the weekly activities and we had a great turn out especially for Bowls, Golf, Music and Housie. Residents enjoyed the trip out to see daffodils in the city and came back for a lovely afternoon tea at the Café at Nazareth. They enjoyed the Young Vinnies on Saturday who were helping them to Mass followed by a morning tea and singing by the group. We had the tiny tots sing and read some story time to residents. Residents enjoyed the Quiz and Word-find each week and are amazed how many words they can get. Our friend Ben (dog) visited the House each Monday afternoon. He is a big hit with the residents. We are all happy to have our Mobile Library each Wednesday afternoon to visit. Residents are enjoying Spring in the air and going out for more walks and in wheelchairs. A special morning tea was held for Daffodil Day with a coin donation. All money rasied was donated to the Cancer Society. Thanks to all residents and employees and volunteers for your support, much appreciated.
