We gather in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen Confession and Forgiveness (Silence for reflection) One of the most powerful gifts we have been given is the gift of forgiveness and reconciliation. In the perfect love of Jesus Christ, we have all been given access to a great storehouse of new life. As we worship, let us begin with clean hearts and a clean conscience. Let us bring our entire selves to God. Holy One, We come to you with honest and open hearts. We say to you and in the presence of one another that we have fallen short, missed the mark, traveled the wrong way and we have sinned. We have sinned deliberately, and we have committed sin just by nature of participation in broken systems. We come to you, confident that you and you alone can forgive sin. Forgive us, heal us and set us free. Because of Jesus and his love for you, your sins are forgiven. You are a new creation, you have been set free. Rejoice in your new life, share the good news and let joy fill your hearts! Thank God! We have been set free! Hymn Give to Our God Immortal Praise! duke street 3
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you. Prayer of the Day God of the journey, you are always more open to see us than we are wanting to be seen. You always hear us even when we whisper. You feel every pain we feel and are present in every tear. We ask you to deepen our trust for you every day so that we can follow you along the way. Amen Anthem Leaning on the Everlasting Arms Eric Nelson New Dimension Singers Lesson James 3:13-4:3; 7-8a Who is wise and understanding among you? Show by your good life that your works are done with gentleness born of wisdom. But if you have bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not be boastful and false to the truth. Such wisdom does not come down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, devilish. For where there is envy and selfish ambition, there will also be disorder and wickedness of every kind. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without a trace of partiality or hypocrisy. And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace for those who make peace. Those conflicts and disputes among you, where do they come from? Do they not come from your cravings that are at war within you? You want something and do not have it; so you commit murder. And you covet something and cannot obtain it; so you engage in disputes and conflicts. You do not have, because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, in order to spend what you get on your pleasures. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 4
We welcome children to Dock Children s Education at this time. Ensure your child is wearing a nametag with name and grade level. ** See front of yellow bulletin insert for pickup locations. ** Anthem How Lovely Is Thy Dwelling Place from Requiem How lovely is thy dwelling place, O Lord of Hosts! For my soul, it longeth, yea fainteth, For the courts of the Lord. My soul and body crieth out, yea for the living God. How lovely is thy dwelling place, O Lord of Hosts! Blest are they that dwell within thy house, They praise thy name evermore. How lovely is thy dwelling place! (based on Psalm 84) Johannes Brahms St. Andrew s Choir Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen 5
Hymn Blessed Assurance assurance Holy Gospel Mark 9:30-35 All (sung): Glory to you, O Lord. The disciples went on from there and passed through Galilee. Jesus did not want anyone to know it; for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, The Son of Man is to be betrayed into human hands, and they will kill him, and three days after being killed, he will rise again. But they did not understand what he was saying and were afraid to ask him. Then they came to Capernaum; and when he was in the house he asked them, What were you arguing about on the way? But they were silent, for on the way they had argued with one another who was the greatest. He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all. The Gospel of the Lord. All (sung): Praise to you, O Christ. 6
