S CHAPTER A F E T Y F O R L I F E W A S A T C H W I N G S GWRRA - Chapter H E-Mail Newsletter JANUARY 30, 2018 VOLUME 1, NUMBER 3 Thanks for riding with Chapter H, we try to be a fun group and are always on the lookout for great places to ride to oh yes and to try out for lunch/dinner/ice cream. We look forward to seeing you on the 6th of February 2018 at Wingers in Clearfield. Bill and Kathie McGowan CD s Chapter H UTAH GWRRA Our next Gathering will be February 6nd at the Wingers in Clearfield We will begin the Gathering at 6 PM for those who can come for dinner and start the discussion part of the Gathering at 7. Wingers is located at 743 N. Main St. Clearfield UT, 84015 Rest in Peace We said goodbye to one of our own in January. Rex Tunbridge passed away on January 12 th, 2018. Rex was a member of Chapter H and produced our Chapter H shirts. He will be missed. His funeral was held January 17 th and was a very sad event. I have attached an excerpt of his Obituary on the following page as published in the Standard- Examiner.

September 3, 1961, ~ January 12, 2018 Current Staff for the Chapter: Chapter Directors Bill and Kathie McGowan Assistant Directors Vacant Treasurer Bruce Johnson Ride Coordinator - NEW Vacant Membership Enhancement Vacant Bill & Kathie McGowan 1757 Doral Drive Syracuse, UT 84074 Cell 603-249-6800 After a valiant battle with cancer, while surrounded by his loving family, Rex was welcomed home by our Savior on January 12, 2018. He was born September 3, 1961, in Ogden, Utah, to Laura Meldrum and Ronald Albert Tunbridge. He graduated from Layton High School where he was an active participant as a stage hand and in the Drama club. Rex was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints. He served an LDS mission to the England Coventry Mission. He was married to his Honey, Tamra Holmes, on February 13, 1997, and sealed in the Bountiful LDS Temple. He served in a variety of ward and stake callings throughout his life. Rex was active in his local politics as a local and state delegate and served as the precinct chair. He was a member of the Davis Chamber of Commerce, the Lakesiders and was a CERT member for Layton City. He loved serving his community and is well-known for his dedication to making a difference in the lives of others. He loved the theater and musicals, especially Wicked, Aida and Mamma Mia. He loved to fly and obtained a Pilot license in his early adulthood. He was always excited to talk about how it felt to be in the air. Rex had many skills and was the best source of information and help whenever anyone needed to complete a project. His love for his grandchildren ran deep and is evidenced by the countless hours he spent watching Trolls, Moana, Minions, Curious George, Mickey Mouse and Walk the Prank. He is survived by his eternal companion, children: Shara (Cody) Birt, Daniel (Chanel) Hansen, Karl Boren, Tehawna (Stephen) Henthorn, Erik Tunbridge, Annabelle (Malcolm) Geldmacher and CJ Holmes; five grandchildren: Spencer, Mason, Nia, Isabelle and Poppy; sisters, Evelyn Tunbridge and Hazel (Leonard) Patcyk; and brother, Jay Tunbridge. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Karen Tunbridge; brother, Fred Tunbridge; and two grandchildren: McKenna and Benjamin. The family would like to thank the amazing staff at the Huntsman Cancer Institute and the NCCU at the University of Utah Hospital for the incredible service and care they provided for Rex. We know that No One FIGHTS Alone! Email - wmcgowan_ut@comcast. net Please see me or any other Chapter officer if you are interested in a vacant position.

Directors thoughts I ve included an updated but still Preliminary 2018 Ride Schedule on a following page. This is the output from the January Officers meeting. There are still holes to fill and dates and locations to confirm, but we are getting closer. Update: The officer meeting was held Saturday, January 27 th. There was discussion as to the ride schedule and most of the Chapters have the year sketched out. I expect to see a final version from them shortly and will either send out a consolidated version separately or include it in our next newsletter. Closer to home, Chapter H is going to experiment with moving the Monthly Gatherings to our Saturday ride days starting in March of 2018. I have heard from several of our members that it is tough attending a gathering on a work day. Chapter H Officer doings We have openings for several officers in the Chapter. None of the Officer positions take a lot of time and/or effort and the influx of new members in these rolls always prompts fresh thinking. I would really appreciate having some new blood help Chapter H come up with new ideas. Please feel free discuss a prospective position with me at one of our gatherings or by phone if that is easier. Speaking of Officers Bruce Johnson, our long time Treasurer is stepping down effective the February 6 th meeting and Amy Limburg will be stepping up to replace him. Bruce has been the Treasurer of Chapter H for 31/2 years and I wish to thank him for his service and assistance during my time as Chapter Director. Bruce also served Chapter H as Road Captain early on in the Chapter rebirth of 2013. He has been a friend to the Chapter and while retired from his long and distinguished career as a UHP Officer, finds his retirement days over flowing with things to do and more of them than time allows! Please take a minute at the February Gathering to Thank Bruce for his time and work over the years and welcome Amy to her new role.

The newly created Ride Coordinator would be my choice for the first position to fill. The description of this new role as spelled out by Home Office : Chapter Ride Coordinator- As we change our focus we need to have someone coordinate our rides. We want this position to be under Rider Education so this person has to believe and participate in our Rider Education program and be at least a level 2 and a Road Captain, which is why they are an Officer of Rider Education. Their role will not be the same as the previous role of the Chapter Educator as we want you to focus your energy on planning all variety of rides that suit your Chapter Participants. As you get ready for that ride you will conduct a very informative Rider Meeting and you will encourage safety, i.e. T-Clocs, group riding techniques; safety clothes and more. You accept the Riders that show and they need to be in compliance with State law. You will encourage, communicate and lead the way sharing GWRRA s benefits of safety as developed through our Rider Education Program. You will not be focused on paperwork but on the opportunities to ride and share. If you sign Members into the program, that is a bonus, but sharing your passion for the ride is your piece of the fun equation. There are several of the Chapter H members who are lifetime residents of Utah and know the roads and rides that are the most enjoyable. Please thing about assuming this role and help Chapter H get the most out of the upcoming riding season. This is a perfect example of the changes GWRRA is putting in place. Make FUN the cornerstone of all that we do. Whether at a Gathering, a ride or a Rally. I don t know how this will look in Utah in the upcoming months, but I know that change is in the wind. If ANYONE has suggestions on how we can make things more fun here in Utah, please feel free to speak up. We are a very small state in the number of members that we have compared to other nearby states, but that doesn t mean that we can t have fun. Want to help us have fun in some capacity??? Let one of the current officers know, we would certainly appreciate the help.

District Training Update On a similar note, Kathie and I are no longer the District Trainers for Utah. That position/title was replaced in the January 1, 2018, Officer change and is now known as District University Coordinator. As of the January 1 date, Kathie and I officially accepted the role of University Assistants on Team GWRRA. We are reporting to Clara Boldt, Director of the University. Our role as Assistant Region Trainers also came to an end and we now hold just the 2 Officer Positions Chapter H Directors and University Assistants. Clara has asked that Randy Bolsinger, the District University Coordinator for Nevada, take over the role for Utah as well as for Nevada until we come up with our own Coordinator. I and the other Chapter Directors are working with Randy as his contacts in Utah, and we have scheduled another training day for March 10 th, 2018 again at the Bountiful Library. We have the room from 12 5. More details to follow as we get closer and select the classes to present. New Honda Goldwing 2018 Fellow Chapter H member Dean Martinez forwarded to me the attached Information Packet from Honda. This document provides a lot of answers to questions on the new Wing. Take a read through it if you are interested in the new Wing and I expect it will answer many of your questions. Dean also states that Steadman s Honda in Tooele has a bike due in February and that they will be scheduling Demo rides. Please contact them directly for more info. I have also heard that Monarch Honda in Orem has a unit on their floor. Again, contact the dealership directly for more information. 2018 Rallies and Fun events Presidents Day Weekend - Death Valley - Chapter(s) R/S - Feb 16th-18th March 3rd first combined Chapter H Gathering and ride (weather permitting) March 10 th District wide Training Day Bountiful Libary Hoot in the Ute - May 25-27 - Midway UT (Zermatt) WingDing 40 - Knoxville, TN August 28 - September 1, 2018 Colorado District Rally - September 13-15- Gunnison, CO Arizona District Rally - October 26-28 - Lake Havasu, AZ
