James points to the offering of Isaac on the altar (Ge 22:16f.) as proof of the faith that Abraham already had. Paul discusses Abraham's faith as the basis of his justification, that not his circumcision. There is no contradiction at all between James Paul. Neither is answering the other. What is the Place of Works in Salvation? Matthew 7:13-27 - Salvation from a Manward Perspective * Enter by narrow gate / do the Father s will * Beware False Prophets / Beware of Counterfeits * You will know them by their Fruits (v16,20) Signs of Genuine Faith = Doing will of the Father = Hears Jesus words & acts on them Titus 2:11-14 - Proof of God s Grace in Lour Life = Deny ungodliness & worldly desires = live sensibly, righteously & godly = zealous for good deeds Titus 3:3-8 Godward Aspect of Salvation Man s Sin: foolish, disobedient, deceived, enslaved to various lusts pleasures, spending our life in malice envy, hateful, hating one another God s Grace: He saved us, not on the basis of our righteous deeds, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration renewing by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior (v4-6) that being justified by His grace we might be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life (v7) Saved Man s Responsibility: 1. speak confidently of these things (v8) 2. those who have believed God may be careful to engage in good deeds (v8) 2 Peter 1:1-11 Our Sting & Our Responsibility What We Have (v1-4) * faith (v1), grace & peace (v2), everything pertaining to life & godliness (v3), His precious & magnificent promises (v4) that we might become partakers of the divine nature (v4) What We Should Do (v5-11) To supply the 7 godly qualities to your faith (v5-7) To practice these things so you will never stumble you will have an abundant entrance into the kingdom of our Lord James 2:14-26 3 Different Types of Faith Dead Faith = says he has faith but has no works Useless Faith = has right beliefs but has no works Perfected Faith = has faith & has works to back up his/her faith
