Holy Spirit Catholic Church September 9, 2018 From The Pastor s Desk My brothers and sisters, show no partiality as you adhere to the faith in our glorious Lord Jesus. (James 2:1) When we judge others, we make distinction between them and ourselves. We create separations and divisions. We start to break down the unity that is naturally there, from the fact that, we all share in the same world and are part of the same human race and children of the same God. Judgement and prejudice are part of the same package, and we know how much devastation prejudice can cause. It has been responsible for more violence and death in our world than probably any other single factor. Even in recent months, we have seen examples of attempted genocide by Myanmar military on whole ethnic Rohingya Muslims. These people are so full of hatred towards them that they would kill every last member Rohingya Muslim if they could. These are among the most horrible crimes against humanity. And yet it all starts within ourselves. When we accept a false conclusion that others are not good as we are because of how they look, or live, or talk, then we have given up our faith in Jesus Christ. This is very serious and must be taken very seriously by us. We are called upon to look closely at our own hearts and see if we harbor any kind of prejudice towards any people. Then we are called upon to renew our minds and hearts according to the mind and heart of Jesus Christ. Jesus knew no distinction between peoples. This is more than clear from even a quick reading of the Gospels. And this is the official stance of our Catholic Church. Even if individuals within our Church do not always live according to the standards of Christ, that is no excuse for any one of us to do the same. Allow me to end this reflection with part of today s Psalm: God of Jacob keeps faith forever, Secures justice for the oppressed, Give food to the hungry. The Lord sets captives free. Holy Spirit Catholic Church September 9, 2018 FAITH FORMATION CLASSES are officially in full swing this Sunday, September 9! We hope you all enjoyed your Labor Day Holiday! If you missed Parent Meet & Greet on August 26, please stop by the front desk and pick up a packet of information about the 2018/19 Faith Formation year including all the great special events and activities planned for you and your children. Also, be sure to check out the parish website, Children s Faith Formation page, which will have current information and flyers available to download. And, if you haven t yet registered your children for Faith Formation, it s not too late! You can pick up registration paperwork between 10 a.m. & 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday, at the Community Center front desk or on Sunday mornings during Faith Formation. We are closed from 12 noon to 1 p.m. for lunch However, many classes are full so to be on the safe side, you might want to call ahead and check on availability. We have also entered Late Registration so fees have increased, as well. The deadline for Faith Formation registration for the 2018/19 year is Sunday, October 7 for children needing to fulfill the one-year attendance requirement (that s first grade and up) for the following year. After that, classes will be officially closed except for PK3/4 or those who have already celebrated sacraments (pending room availability). SACRAMENTS & SUCH: The deadline for Faith Formation registration for the 2018/19 year is next Sunday, September 16 for children wishing to enroll in our sacramental preparation program. Please be sure any balances due on sacramental expenses have been taken care of, as paperwork has not been processed if there is an outstanding balance. If you have already registered for the 2018/19 sacramental preparation program and have yet to turn in your baptismal certificate copy, please do so ASAP as your paperwork will not be processed until you provide us with the required documentation! The first CONFIRMATION sacramental preparation session for all registered youth is next Sunday, September 16 from 2:30-4:30 p.m. in the dining room. This is for PARENTS ONLY. You can contact Sharon Bush at 972.298.9460 for childcare needs. Please contact Devyn Buschow, ext. 16, with any questions regarding Confirmation registration and/or requirements. I am still in need of one Parent Pew Patrol (better known as the Hall Monitor!) for our 11:00 a.m. session if anyone is interested. It s an easy job, but greatly needed, especially from a safety and security standpoint. If you have an extra 75 minutes to spare on Sunday morning, please see Deborah. There s always fresh coffee and a comfy chair...and donuts! Catechists, if you haven t already done so, please stop by the front desk this Sunday and pick up your folder and have your picture taken for your class ID. Additionally, all Catechist ID Cards need to be turned in so that we can order shirts for all the new catechists/aides! Just a gentle reminder to all to not forget that with the start of the Faith Formation year, the familiar orange safety cones and locked gate will be in place. For safety s sake, PLEASE DON T MOVE THE CONES! They are there to ensure the safe passage of both children and parishioners, as they move from the Church to the Community Center and vice versa. And please be kind to our Parking & Security Attendants who are here to assist with safe vehicular traffic. Thanking everyone in advance! This year, the Church will celebrate National Catechetical Sunday on September 16, and will focus on the theme "Enlisting Witnesses for Jesus Christ" On this day, the many men and women who serve in the Church s catechetical ministries are recognized and affirmed for sharing their gift of faith with others. Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Catechetical Sunday is also an opportunity for ALL to rededicate themselves to this mission as a community of faith. So take a moment on the 16th to say THANK YOU to your child s catechist for taking on such a commitment. Also, Grades 1-6 will be attending Mass as a Class on September 16 so what a wonderful occasion to truly recognize this year s catechists by having them in attendance with their Faith Formation class! But, this also means your children need to be on time to class or they will miss going to Mass with their class. Instead, ironically, they will get to attend Mass with you... Catechists, Youth Mentors & RCIA Team members, you and your immediate family are cordially invited to an Appreciation Brunch from 8:15-11:15 a.m. in the dining room prepared by our own Knights of Columbus.

Seven Sorrows Novena Please join the Holy Spirit Novena Group in praying the Seven Sorrows Novena, the Divine Mercy Chaplet, and other prayers. We will be praying for our families, the ill, the dying, the holy souls in purgatory, the Church, and other intentions. We will meet in the church / chapel. Mon Fri, Sept 10 14, 6:00 p.m. Sat, Sept 15, 9:15 a.m. (after 8:30 a.m. Mass) Sun, Sept 16, 2:15 pm (after 1:00 p.m. Mass) Mon Tues, Sept 17 18, 6:00 p.m. St. Bridget of Sweden (1303-1373) reported that Our Lady promised to grant seven graces to those who honor her and draw near to her and her Son every day by meditating on her sorrows: 1. I will grant peace to their families. 2. They will be enlightened about the divine Mysteries. 3. I will console them in their pains and will accompany them in their work. 4. I will give them as much as they ask for as long as it does not oppose the adorable will of my divine Son or the sanctification of their souls. 5. I will defend them in their spiritual battles with the infernal enemy and I will protect them at every instant of their lives. 6. I will visibly help them at the moment of their death-- they will see the face of their mother. 7. I have obtained this grace from my divine Son: that those who propagate this devotion to my tears and sorrows will be taken directly from this earthly life to eternal happiness, since all their sins will be forgiven and my Son will be their eternal consolation and joy.

Outreach Ministry Rachel s Corner Be ashamed when you sin, don't be ashamed when you repent. To repent means to have a change of heart and mind. It is not simply a feeling of sorrow, but a psycho/spiritual growth away from evil/death and a turning to God/life. Sin is the wound, repentance is the medicine. Sin is followed by shame; repentance is followed by boldness. Boldness means to beg God for undeserved mercy. - St John Chrysostom- feast day Aug 13 Is your heart begging God for His mercy as it yearns for His forgiveness and reconciliation with Him? Repentance is the first step. Don t let shame get in the way. Join us on a Rachel s Vineyard Retreat and climb into His merciful embrace.
