May this year fill us all with Peace, Love and Unity as we contemplate his Holy Name! This month I want to complete the discussion of the symbolism behind the GHP pin and move on to subjects of more exalted importance: Page 1 of 19
This symbol of Royal Arch Masonry regarding our ancient craft contains many deeper symbols that warrant further explanation than can not be dismissed with a few words of reference here. For example, the symbol of the OHP in the North contains references to the 12 tribes of Israel and the tradition of 3 x 3 in the three triangles each containing the Tetragrammaton flanking the breastplate symbolic of the unity of the 12 tribes. The tradition of the triple Tau which in ancient times was sometimes termed T over H and what each T refers to in our craft? Why is the symbolic color of the Holy Royal Arch Red and not some other color, so that when the spaces outside of our own light in Masonry, i.e. outside the circle of our own perfection in ancient craft Masonry, are colored Red we know that the explanation of this unknown in our understanding is to be found only within the Holy of Holies under the auspices of our Most Ancient Grand High Priest! Finally, the symbology outside of our own circle of perfection suggests to each of us that if we chart the course of our galley of life towards the North Star of the OHP with the wisdom of our forefathers as a guide. Our Masonic ship of faith will most certainly arrive safely in foreign countries where we may work and receive Master Mason s wages until it shall please Almighty God to receive us in His Ark of Safety above! Sine Dei est nihil!! This month, as we pass into the next Capitular year, I want to thank all of the Royal Arch Masons who attended gatherings with us in December at the Kern River Valley Lodge Installation, the Whittier Royal Arch Chapter Installation, the Downey Chapter Official Visit, the Bakersfield Commandery No. 39 and Los Angeles Commandery No. 9 Christmas Observances! Many thanks to all the Companions present who made these events truly special! January is always a special month for the Royal Arch Masons of California! We will be fully into the season of renewal with the installation of new Officers in our Chapters! I am happy to welcome our new High Priests and dais officers to leadership positions in the most important appendant Masonic Fraternity in the World (yes, I AM still biased)! I want to add my humble and sincere thanks as we start this new Capitular Year for all the cards and wishes of Good Will, kindness and the civility that I have received and experience wherever my travels take me within our venerable fraternity of friends and companions! We are truly the Way to the Light and the world sorely needs us these days! Our Grand Marshal of the North, EC Jerry Miller, still needs our thoughts and prayers now more than ever! His email address is: jm42@sonic.net. Keep up the good fight Jerry! My sincere thanks to all of you that joined me this year in the truly worthy cause of our Masonic Scholarship Fundraiser Challenge Coin! Remember, like all true challenge coins; continue to Not get caught in a CA Royal Arch Masonic venue without one or the next round is still on you! A pre- or postemptive $20 contribution to the scholarship fund on your part will prevent any further embarrassment! Until next time - Go Ever Brighter Red! STEVEN R. GOAD 161 st Grand High Priest RITUAL RESOLUTIONS At least four resolutions will be presented this year for consideration by members of Grand Chapter, effecting and attempting to improve our four degrees. Attention Royal Arch Masons in California! HELP YOUR BROTHER MAKE HIS MARK!!! To introduce Master Masons to the Degrees of the Chapter, our Grand Chapter has authorized the conferral of the Mark Master Degree to interested Brethren without fee. A petition to the Chapter of Royal Arch Masons is still required, to take advantage of this opportunity. Keystone Classes are being planned for this program now, for group conferrals of the Mark Master Degree throughout the state in the Fall of 2015. This is where YOU come in. Please talk with that Brother you would like to recommend to your Chapter, and tell him of this opportunity to sample the further degrees of the York Rite. To help you explain this opportunity to your Lodge Brethren, the following new materials are available to you: A new Petition for this introductory Mark Master Degree. A brochure inviting a Brother to explore the Chapter Degrees. You can print these new materials from the Grand Chapter website, at http://www.yorkriteofcalifornia.org/royalarch/royalarch.htm Or you can ask any Chapter Secretary, District Inspector, or Grand Chapter Officer for copies of these new materials. Be sure to explain the advantages of this opportunity to your Lodge Brothers: The Mark Master Degree expands and extends the Craft Degrees, shedding further Light on what it means to be a Mason. Further Degrees in the Chapter are entirely optional. This is an opportunity to share Masonic fellowship with members of other Lodges in the local community. No proof of proficiency is required to advance in Degrees. -- Companions, please talk with your Blue Lodge Brethren today!! -- Page 6 of 19
