GOAL To facilitate your success in acquiring A thorough knowledge of Hebrew grammar and Essential skills in the use of Hebrew, So that you can study and teach the Hebrew Bible with greater depth and accuracy and enjoy a richer life. Objective To master lessons 24-40 in Beginning Biblical Hebrew. REQUIREMENTS ATTENDANCE Attendance is required. QUIZZES There are 21 quizzes Quizzes are worth 10 points each and total 210 points and 40% of the course grade. TESTS There are 5 tests, including the final exam. Tests are worth 50 points each and total 250 points 48% of the course grade. Tests are cumulative. The majority of each exam will be on the new chapters. For each test you are required to know the books of the Bible according to their order in the Hebrew canon. READING REFLECTIONS There 12 reading reflection papers, covering the assigned reading in Calvin and the Biblical Languages and From Exegesis to Exposition. Reading reflections are worth 5 points each and total 60 points 12% of the course grade. GRADING I use the Seminary's published grading scale. There is an automatic penalty of one letter grade per day for a late work (without excuse). Note: A "C" or better is needed in Hebrew 2 in order to move on to Hebrew Exegesis. 3 Dr. Mark D. Course Objectives Related to MDiv* Student Learning Outcomes Course: OT504 Hebrew 2 Professor: Futato Campus: Orlando Date: Spring 2013 MDiv* Student Learning Outcomes In order to measure the success of the MDiv curriculum, RTS has defined the following as the intended outcomes of the student learning process. Each course contributes to these overall outcomes. This rubric shows the contribution of this course to the MDiv outcomes. *As the MDiv is the core degree at RTS, the MDiv rubric will be used in this syllabus. Broadly understands and articulates knowledge, both oral and written, of essential biblical, theological, historical, and cultural/global information, including details, concepts, and frameworks. Articulation (oral & written) Scripture Reformed Theology Significant knowledge of the original meaning of Scripture. Also, the concepts for and skill to research further into the original meaning of Scripture and to apply Scripture to a variety of modern circumstances. (Includes appropriate use of original languages and hermeneutics; and integrates theological, historical, and cultural/global perspectives.) Significant knowledge of Reformed theology and practice, with emphasis on the Westminster Standards. Minimal Strong Rubric Strong Moderate Minimal Mini-Justification Uses key texts from the Old Testament in the practice exercises. Teaches the skills to research further into the original meaning of Scripture, including Hebrew grammar and computer technology. Sanctification Demonstrates a love for the Triune God that aids the student s sanctification. Moderate Uses key texts from the Old Testament in the practice exercises. Desire for Worldview Burning desire to conform all of life to the Word of God. Minimal Uses key texts from the Old Testament in the practice exercises. Winsomely Reformed Preach Embraces a winsomely Reformed ethos. (Includes an appropriate ecumenical spirit with other Christians, especially Evangelicals; a concern to present the Gospel in a God-honoring manner to non-christians; and a truth-in-love attitude in disagreements.) Ability to preach and teach the meaning of Scripture to both heart and mind with clarity and enthusiasm. Minimal Discussion forums are moderated to ensure that students communicate winsomely. Worship Knowledgeable of historic and modern Christianworship forms; and ability to construct and skill to lead a worship service. Shepherd Church/World Ability to shepherd the local congregation: aiding in spiritual maturity; promoting use of gifts and callings; and encouraging a concern for non-christians, both in America and worldwide.
