It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so. Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits. Proverbs 10:20 The tongue of the righteous is choice silver; the heart of the wicked is of little worth. Proverbs 15:7 The lips of the wise spread knowledge; not so the hearts of fools. WORDS COME FROM THE HEART. Proverbs 4:23 Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life. Proverbs 15:28 The heart of the righteous ponders how to answer, but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things. The Bible Chapel Page 1

Proverbs 18:4 The words of a man's mouth are deep waters; the fountain of wisdom is a bubbling brook. Matthew 12:34b For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. WORDS ARE POWERFUL. Proverbs 10.11 The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life. Proverbs 10:20 The tongue of the righteous is choice silver. Proverbs 10:21 The lips of the righteous feed many. Proverbs 12.18 The tongue of the wise brings healing. Proverbs 15:2 The tongue of the wise commends knowledge. Proverbs 12:18 There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts. Proverbs 15:1 A harsh word stirs up anger. Proverbs 16:27 A worthless man plots evil, and his speech is like a scorching fire. The Bible Chapel Page 2

Proverbs 18:6-8 A fool s lips walk into a fight, and his mouth invites a beating. A fool s mouth is his ruin, and his lips are a snare to his soul. Ecclesiastes 12:10b The lips of a fool consume him. Matthew 12:34b For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. SPEECH TO ADDRESS AND AVOID Corrupt and Foul Speech Proverbs 4:24 Put away from you crooked speech, and put devious talk far from you. Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. SPEECH TO ADDRESS AND AVOID Corrupt and Foul Speech Gossip Proverbs 11:13 Whoever goes about slandering reveals secrets, but he who is trustworthy in spirit keeps a thing covered. The Bible Chapel Page 3

Proverbs 18:8 The words of a whisperer are like delicious morsels; they go down into the inner parts of the body. Proverbs 16:28 A dishonest man spreads strife, and a whisperer separates close friends. Proverbs 26:27 Whoever digs a pit will fall into it, and a stone will come back on him who starts it rolling. SPEECH TO ADDRESS AND AVOID Corrupt and Foul Speech Gossip Flattery Proverbs 26:28 A lying tongue hates its victims, and a flattering mouth works ruin. Psalm 55:20-21 My companion stretched out his hand against his friends; he violated his covenant. His speech was smooth as butter, yet war was in his heart; his words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords. The Bible Chapel Page 4

Proverbs 26:23-26 Like the glaze covering an earthen vessel are fervent lips with an evil heart. Whoever hates disguises himself with his lips and harbors deceit in his heart; when he speaks graciously, believe him not, for there are seven abominations in his heart; though his hatred be covered with deception, his wickedness will be exposed in the assembly. Proverbs 29.5 A man who flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his feet. SPEECH TO ADDRESS AND AVOID Corrupt and Foul Speech Gossip Flattery Judgmental Proverbs 11:12 Whoever belittles his neighbor lacks sense, but a man of understanding remains silent. Proverbs 20:19 Whoever goes about slandering reveals secrets; therefore do not associate with a simple babbler. The Bible Chapel Page 5

Proverbs 26:20 For lack of wood the fire goes out, and where there is no whisperer, quarreling ceases. Proverbs 13:3 Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life; he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin. Psalm 141:3 Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips! Proverbs 10.19 When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent. Proverbs 17:27 Whoever restrains his words has knowledge, and he who has a cool spirit is a man of understanding. Proverbs 16:21 The wise of heart is called discerning, and sweetness of speech increases persuasiveness. The Bible Chapel Page 6

Proverbs 23:9 Do not speak in the hearing of a fool, for he will despise the good sense of your words. Proverbs 26:6 Whoever sends a message by the hand of a fool cuts off his own feet and drinks violence. Think before you speak. Proverbs 29:20 Do you see a man who is hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him. Proverbs 21:23 Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble. Proverbs 15:23 To make an apt answer is a joy to a man, and a word in season, how good it is! Proverbs 15.28 The heart of the righteous ponders how to answer. The Bible Chapel Page 7

Think before you speak. Timing is everything. Proverbs 25:20 Whoever sings songs to a heavy heart is like one who takes off a garment on a cold day, and like vinegar on soda. Proverbs 27:14 Whoever blesses his neighbor with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, will be counted as cursing. Think before you speak. Timing is everything. Use words to calm. Proverbs 16:24 Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body The Bible Chapel Page 8

Proverbs 16:21 The wise of heart is called discerning, and sweetness of speech increases persuasiveness. Proverbs 16:23 The heart of the wise makes his speech judicious and adds persuasiveness to his lips. Proverbs 15:1 A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. Don t talk too much. Think before you speak. Timing is everything. Use words to calm. Use words to build up. Proverb 12:25 Anxiety in a man s heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad. Proverbs 15:30 The light of the eyes rejoices the heart, and good news refreshes the bones. Proverbs 25:11 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in a setting of silver. The Bible Chapel Page 9
