Dec em ber 2016 "It s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" The Christmas season is "the most wonderful time of the year." Beginning with Black Friday, the joyful season lasts until present unwrapping on Christmas morning. Our traditions differ, but sometime there will be decorating, baking, shopping, eating, church-going, partying, wrapping, and family get-togethering. For a lot of us, there will be overwhelming moments when we wonder if it will all get done, but somehow it will. In the midst of busyness, the spiritual piece can get neglected. The cure for that is Advent, a season of spiritual preparation for Christmas that begins four Sundays before the big day. This year, our teaching series will be "Jesus Brings Hope!" "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." (Jeremiah 29:11) For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? 25 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. (Romans 8:24-25) But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. - (Isaiah 40:31) We know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. (Romans 5:3-5) May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13) Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. (1 Peter 1:3-4) Be joyful in hope. (Romans 12:12) Several special events have been planned. Christmas Dinner - December 4 - Following the 10:30 service. Children s Program - December 11 - At 10:30. Regular service at 8:15. Christmas Cantata - "There s Peace in the World Tonight" - December 18 - At 10:30. Regular service at 8:15. Christmas Eve Celebration featuring Candlelight and Carols - December 24 at 7:00. Christmas Sunday Morning Celebration - December 25-9:00 AM Birthday Party for Jesus - 9:30 AM - One Worship Service. New Year s Day - Regular Schedule - 8:15 Classic Worship - 9:15 Sunday School - 10:30 Praise Celebration. I pray that you and your family will have an awesome, wonderful, spiritual, amazing, blessed Advent/ Christmas season. See you Sunday,

December Newsletter It s December, which is according to some, is the most wonderful time of the year. Snow and I have a love/hate relationship (as most of you do with it). It s great to look at and really enjoyable for the first snowfall or two, however, when it comes to scraping off my car every morning, driving 30 mph slower, and freezing every time I go outside, snow isn t my best friend. I definitely question that this is the most wonderful time of the year (especially when comparing it to 65 degree fall days)! To each their own I guess. Our regular WNM will be cancelled on December 21 st and December 28 th. On the 21 st, the Sr. High will be the only group meeting as we will be going Christmas caroling! Since the Sr. High group gets to meet on the 21 st, it s only fair that we let the Jr. High group meet on the 28 th, as we have our annual Sk8za event! We will be going ice skating and then coming back to the church to enjoy some pizza and games! Our annual Sr. High lock in will take place on December 30 th -31 st. We can always use some extra adult help for this event, so if you enjoy being awake between the hours of 8 pm and 8 am, let me know! Last month we did a Thanksgiving dinner. We had students draw a random card and eat their meal with whatever ailment they had. Some were gluten free, some lactose intolerant, some had to eat alone, some were blind, others were without limbs, etc. Each of the cards had a fact on them explaining how many people in the world dealt with this particular ailment. The purpose of this was for them to put themselves in other people s shoes and to learn to be thankful for what they have. We put the two alone students together so it wasn t that terrible and one student said, It wasn t that terrible being alone because I had one other person with me. It really wasn t bad at all. From that conversation we were able to talk about how just having one person to sit with at lunch can make all the difference in the world! Hopefully this conversation encouraged them to look out for others at school and be the difference in their schools! Merry Christmas! Enjoy the holiday with your families!!! Tom
