By Bill Subritzky HOW TO HEAR THE VOICE OF GOD He who is of God hears God s words. John 8:47. HOW DO WE HEAR THE VOICE OF GOD? 1. WE MUST PUT GOD FIRST IN OUR LIVES. He must be ahead of our family, our possessions and everything else. If this is not so then we are committing idolatry. (Exodus 22:3). God will not hear us. 2. WE MUST ABSOLUTELY FORGIVE EVERYBODY AS GOD HAS FORGIVEN US. Even though we have been forgiven by God at the Cross of Jesus Christ, we cannot appropriate this forgiveness to ourselves unless we forgive others. Matthew 6:14-15 says, For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Also, Mark 11:25-26, And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses. We read the following account of when Jesus Christ rose from the dead in John 20:23, He breathed on them, and said to them, Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained. When Jesus had breathed on them they received the Holy Spirit. Like them we can decide either to retain the sins of other people or with the help of the Holy Spirit forgive those people and let their sins go. If we don't forgive others with the help of the Holy Spirit then any demon powers operating through those who have hurt or damaged us can attack and cause disease and sickness. Jesus tells us to do the following: But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you. Matthew 5:44. 1

3. WE MUST HONOUR OUR MOTHER AND FATHER NO MATTER HOW THEY HAVE TREATED US. Deuteronomy 27:16 says, Cursed is the one who treats his father or mother with contempt. If we don't honour them, the curses of the law, which include every form of sickness and disease as set out in Deuteronomy 28:15 onwards can affect us. Honouring our parents means having respect for them. If your parents are alive you should write and ask them to forgive you for any wrong attitudes you have ever had towards them. Tell them you forgive and honour them no matter how you feel about them. God says He will visit the sins of one generation on the next four of those who hate Him. (Deuteronomy 5:9). Those who hate Him are those who do not obey Him. We don't know what has happened in our previous generations. In order to avoid the curse of inherited sicknesses and diseases from those generations we must honour our parents. When we do so we can claim deliverance at the Cross of Jesus. He became a curse for us to set us free from the curses of the law and so that the blessings of Abraham may come upon us. (Galatians 3:13-14). 4. WE MUST BELIEVE THE WORD OF GOD ABSOLUTELY. Isaiah 53:4-5 says, Surely He has borne our griefs, And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. The words, griefs and sorrows, can also be translated as, pains and sicknesses. We have been healed by the stripes laid on Jesus Christ. Praise God! We must believe this. The Bible says: For I am the Lord who heals you. Exodus 15:26. Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases. Psalm 103:3. When the ruler of the synagogue came to Jesus and begged Him earnestly to come and heal his daughter who was at the point of death Jesus said, Do not be afraid; only believe. (Mark 5:22-23 & 36) She was healed. 5. FAITH Mark 11:22-24 says, So Jesus answered and said to them, Have faith in God. For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, Be removed and be cast into the sea, and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them. 2

Therefore let us put all doubt and fear out of our mind and believe God no matter how impossible it may seem. For with God nothing will be impossible. Luke 1:37. Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1. But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Hebrews 11:6. 6. NEED FOR PERSISTENCE Remember the persistent widow who wouldn't take, No, for an answer. (Luke 18:1-8.) We need to be like her and persist until we get the answer to our prayers. 7. BY KNOWING GOD S ANOINTING (1 John 2:20 & 27). A strong anointing makes it easier to hear God. 8. BY THOUGHT, IMPRESSION, VISION OR AUDIBLE VOICE. 9. BY PRAYER AND FASTING. This will bring us closer to God. 10. BY DYING TO SELF (Galatians 2:20). He must increase and we must decrease. (John 3:30). 11. BY YIELDING ABSOLUTELY TO GOD BY FOLLOWING HIS COMMANDMENTS. 12. BY CRUCIFYING OUR FLESHLY LUSTS (MATTHEW 16:24) AND OBEYING GOD. 13. BY HAVING A SERVANT-HEART (Matthew 20:28). Example: Praying and caring for the sick, the needy and those who need deliverance. The more often you pray for others with compassion, the more clearly you will hear the voice of God. 14. BY HAVING ABSOLUTE BELIEF IN THE WORD OF GOD AND ITS POWER. 15. BY READING THE WORD OF GOD REGULARLY AND ACTING UPON IT. 16. BY HAVING FAITH IN GOD. Mark 11:22-24 says, So Jesus answered and said to them, Have faith in God. What is not of faith is sin. (Romans 14:23). 17. BY BELIEVING THAT WE WILL HEAR THE VOICE OF GOD. 3

Jesus says He will speak to us. He says this in John 10:27-29, "My sheep hear My voice." We must believe this. John 16:13 says, However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. 18. BY FREQUENTLY SPEAKING IN TONGUES. When we do so we are speaking to God by our spirit. (1 Corinthians 14:2). We should do this regularly. This will help us hear the voice of God because we will draw closer to Him. 19. NEED FOR REPENTANCE Finally we must repent from all sins. Our sins separate us from God and can prevent our healing and deliverance. Behold, the Lord s hand is not shortened, That it cannot save; Nor His ear heavy, That it cannot hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear. Isaiah 59:1-2. The Bible describes sin as follows (NKJV) 1 Corinthians 6:9-10: Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators (sex outside of marriage) Nor idolaters (putting other things ahead of God) Nor adulterers Nor homosexuals Nor sodomites Nor thieves Nor covetous Nor drunkards Nor revilers (cursing other people) Nor extortioners (taking other people s money by threat) will inherit the kingdom of God. Colossians 3:8: Uncleanness (impurity) Using bad language Dirty jokes Licentiousness (indecency) e.g. pornography (Galatians 5:19, Ephesians 5:3-4) Galatians 5:20-21: Sorcery i.e. Witchcraft Examples: Fortune telling (horoscopes), some forms of heavy metal rock music, Ouija boards, drugs (wrong kind), charms, New Age e.g. worship of the creation, Spiritism: Séances, 4

Freemasonry, Martial Arts i.e. Kung Fu, Aikido, Tae Kwon Do, Karate, Tai Chi, Judo (rooted in Taoism and Buddhism), Druids Lodge, Hypnosis (Hinduism Goddess Shiva), Yoga, TM, ESP, Worship of the creation (Idolatry) (Romans 1:25). Those practicing Hatred Contentions e.g. quarrelsome, causing fights Jealousies Outburst of wrath Selfish ambitions Dissensions (causing fights) Heresies e.g. Jehovah Witnesses and Mormons Envy Murders e.g. deliberate unnecessary abortion Drunkenness Revelries (wild parties) Revelation 21:8: Also those who are Cowardly (refusing to follow Christ) Unbelievers Abominable Liars All of the above scriptures show the need for us to come before the Lord and repent of any of these sins so that we can inherit the kingdom of God. For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23. The Bible says if we confess our sins God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9). We suggest you say a prayer such as the following, Dear Heavenly Father I come to you in the mighty name of Your Son Jesus Christ. I believe He died on the Cross to pay the penalty for all my sins, to forgive me, to heal me and to reconcile me to You. I confess Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour and I repent of these sins (name them). Thank you Heavenly Father for your forgiveness, love and healing in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen. Please follow the above directions carefully and you will know the blessing of God for healing. Sickness caused by demonic activity: Sometimes such things as pain, crippling diseases, deformities and a desire to die, are the result of demonic powers and attacks by satan. Jesus constantly healed the sick and cast out demons. 5

Deliverance Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, as I come to You in the name of Jesus Christ, I confess Jesus Christ is my Lord and my Saviour. I confess that He shed His blood for me and I plead now the protection of that precious blood over my whole life. In the name of Jesus Christ I command every spirit of sickness to flee from me. I rebuke it in the name of Jesus Christ and thank You Lord Jesus for Your healing. Amen. If you have been involved in anything on the occult check list at the end of this pamphlet, you should repent before God. Finally, Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. James 4:8. 20. POWER OF SPEAKING OUT THE WORD OF GOD An excellent way of receiving healing with the use of a prayer cloth is to read aloud each day scriptures from the Bible. I have seen wonderful results when this is done. We suggest the following scriptures: Psalm 103:1-5 Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle s. Psalm 107:20 He sent His word and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions. Isaiah 53:4-5 Surely He has borne our griefs, And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. 21. SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO PRACTICE HEARING FROM GOD. Suggested method 1. And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied. (Acts 19:6.) When hands are laid for the baptism of the Holy Spirit there should be an expectation for a manifestation of tongues and prophecy. Suggested method 2. An excellent way to hear the voice of God is to pray with other people. As we show compassion and are prepared to serve God in this manner, He will honour us with thoughts, impressions, visions or His audible voice. Procedure. 1. Ask the participants to stand in pairs so that they can pray for each other. They should decide who will pray first. 6

2. The person who is going to pray should ask the other person whether they need prayer for healing and if so their particular need. If a person does not need prayer for healing then the roles should be reversed. 3. Everybody should now wait for a few minutes upon the Lord for His anointing to fall upon them. This will happen as they believe. Jesus said, For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them. (Matthew 18:20.) He is present by the Holy Spirit who will manifest His presence and power among us. It is the Holy Spirit who will speak to us as He hears from God. (John 16:13-14.) 4. The person who is going to pray should now wait for an impression from the Lord as to where they should stand in relation to the other person, e.g. in front, beside or behind them. 5. Next they should wait for an impression from the Lord as to where they should lay their hands on the other person, e.g. on their head, neck, shoulders, back, hips, hands or legs. If they receive the impression that they should lay their hands on the person s chest or stomach they should ensure that the person puts their hands there first. The person praying can put their hands on top of the other person s hands. 6. Next they should wait upon the Lord for an impression as to how they should pray and what should be said. As they believe they will receive a very clear idea as to what they should do. 7. When they do this, the impression may come that there is some blockage preventing healing such as unforgiveness, rejection, anger, failure to honour parents, involvement in the occult, freemasonry or some other sin. If this happens, God will give wisdom as to how the other person is told. A tentative suggestion should be made such as, I feel the Lord is raising the question of... If the person being prayed for is genuine in their desire to receive healing then they will respond appropriately. If they admit to any such problem that has been raised, then they should be led in a prayer of repentance. 8. Prayer should now take place. We must always remember that God will help us with the words to pray. As we pray in the name of Jesus we should be exercising faith that God is hearing our prayer. Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him. (1 John 5:14-15.) 9. As the anointing grows, a demonic manifestation may occur. The person praying should recognise their authority in Jesus to bind the spirit. The Lord will give discernment and wisdom in dealing with that situation. 10. As the above routine is practised, people will realise increasingly that they are getting impressions from the Lord, thus hearing His voice. Suggested method 3. The doorway to hearing the voice of God can be prophecy in accordance with 1 Corinthians 14:3. 7

This is speaking out words of edification, exhortation and comfort which we believe the Lord is giving us for another person or group of persons. A method of encouraging people into this gift is to ask them to break into small groups.
