REACH 2018 Calgary Central Ministry Plan Overview REACH is a strategy developed by the North American Division (NAD) and implemented by all Unions and Conferences for best accomplishing the mission of the church with excellence. It consists of: A process for becoming mission-driven churches of excellence A mission statement to guide the direction of churches A set of REACH core values Strategic priorities to help attain our mission The Process The REACH Strategic Planning Team has worked to create a Ministry Plan that will guide us in achieving our core values. This plan has been developed using: Various NAD and Conference resources Opportunities for church members to provide suggestions and ideas. This has included the Church Survey, Focus Groups and Visioning Potluck Input and ideas provided for each core value, categorizing and prioritizing them into the top three or four most significant Key Points Establishment of activities and events that will help to accomplish these Key Points Current Team members:, Pastor Felix Richter, Pastor Adam Bially, Terry Lachance, Deb Ivany, Kathlynne Butler, Charlynn Cundliffe Our Mission: To engage the members of Calgary Central in sharing Christ s message of hope and wholeness Our Vision: Experience and Express Christ

REVIVAL AND TRANSFORMATION 1.0 SMALL GROUP STUDIES 1.1 TRAINING Pastor Felix and Pastor Bially will work together to continue to develop the Small Group Study program. There are currently 15 small groups meeting in households throughout the city. Several others are willing to host, but are waiting for leaders. Potluck/workshop for leaders, hosts and families. March 2018 Offer assistance. Discuss additional study topics and available resources. Ways to raise awareness word of mouth, personal invitations, testimonies. Encourage small group members to look outward to invite non-church friends, neighbors, co-workers. 1.2 STUDY TOPICS (Suggested) Thunder in the Holy Land Beyond the Search Experiencing God Marriage God s Way Help! I m a Parent Shadow Empire 2.0 REVIVAL WEEKENDS 2.1 TEN DAYS OF PRAYER Our High Priest Jan 10-20, 2018 Dan Augsburger confirmed as guest speaker for the closing weekend. Jan 18-20, 2018 All material can be downloaded from the General Conference website. City-wide prayer meeting at Calgary Central 7:00pm 12:00am. Jan 20, 2018 Light supper provided. 2.2 SPIRITUAL GROWTH Guest speakers: Dennis Priebe July 27-28, 2018 Pastor Stephen Bohr. Oct 19-20, 2018 $3000 Budget required travel, accommodation, meals. 3.0 YOUTH PROGRAMS Pastor Adam is developing programs that will lead and mentor youth and young adults in their spiritual journey. Development of a U of C Ministry. Once a month community outreach Elderly, Care Centres, Veterans. Friday evening meetings. Youth Weekend Workshops, guest speakers. EDUCATION FOR DISCIPLESHIP 1.0 EDUCATION & INSPIRATION Elders, guest speakers to present topics that they are knowledgeable and passionate about Mental Health (Joy Astolfi) Religious Liberty (Jay Cameron) Mission Spotlight Spiritual Gifts Adventist history CWAA God s Grace Personal Testimonies How to have a devotional life How to be an effective witness How to give a Bible study How to start a spiritual conversation How to (topic approved by pastors) Church Ministries 2.0 WORKSHOPS, POTLUCKS and VESPERS Pastor Ghena to develop a program. Sept 2018 Pastor, elder, guest speaker presentation and workshop to be held once a quarter, communicated in the bulletin one month in advance. 3.0 THEMED PREACHING SCHEDULE Provides a road map for leadership, the worship team and the congregation. Relieves stress on pastors/speakers, allows them to plan ahead and collect resources. Related events and activities will occur throughout each month to promote involvement and participation. Opportunity for members to invite friends or family for a topic of interest or relevance. ALIGNMENT IN THE CHURCH 1.0 IMPROVE COMMUNICATION 1.1 COMMUNICATION DEPARTMENT Invite additional members adults and youth willing to assist in this ministry. Develop ways to communicate all aspects of church life to the membership and the community - social media, reporters, storywriters, photographers, and bloggers. Pastors Adam and Felix to work with interested individual(s) willing to write short articles about community outreach activities, and submit them to the Conference. 1.2 CHURCH BULLETIN Improve the design and content of the church bulletin. Sept 2018 A good church bulletin should be welcoming, help guests connect, and inform attendees of the most relevant information and activities for the week. Reduce content and clutter. Post additional information on the church website or consider a monthly newsletter from the pastor. Encourage members to access the electronic bulletin on church website or app. Goal - Reduce paper usage by 50%, costs, waste, and time to prepare bulletins. Provide a reduced quantity of paper bulletins for visitors and seniors. Seek input from members through a questionnaire. March 2018 Continue using on screen bulletin announcements at beginning or end of service. 1.3 CHURCH DATABASE Develop secure database to include names, talents, skills, and interests of members and non-members. Information to be collected during church service or potluck. Ask members for their preferred method of receiving notices of church events - Text/Email/Phone. Kathlynne Butler to create a form to post on the church website for members to submit their information online. March 17, 2018 Melanie Fehr and Pastor Felix will act as the administrators. Pastors to interview new members transferring to Calgary Central to find out how they participated at their former church. 2.0 FELLOWSHIP, CARING AND PARTICIPATON 2.1 CENTRAL CARE TEAM June 2018 Pastor Felix will work to develop a Central Care Team to co-ordinate and oversee the New Member Ministry, Visitor Ministry, Visitation Ministry, Prime Timers, and Missing Members Ministry. The team will identify and implement strategies for connecting with all members to aid and revive their relationships with Christ, their family and church, thereby engaging them in ministry for Christ. 5
2.2 NEW MEMBER MINISTRY Develop a spiritual companion/mentoring program. Sept 2018 Create guidelines. Establish a core group of volunteers who will interact with new members each week and invite them home for lunch, to potlucks, church events, and social activities. Provide opportunities for new members to become involved in the life of the church. Distribute the New Member Booklet to those who have recently been baptized or transferred into the church. June 2018 2.3 VISITOR MINISTRY Welcoming people to your church and keeping them, is the first step in growth. Develop a visitor-welcoming program. Oct 2018 Establish a core group of volunteers who will interact with visitors each week and invite them home for lunch, to potlucks, church events, and social activities. Create guidelines. Provide resources and training for Greeters they often give the first impression. 2.4 VISITATION MINISTRY Establish a core group of volunteers who will provide regular visitation with shut-ins. Create guidelines. Seek more involvement from Nurture Committee members and Elders. Nov 2018 2.5 PRIME TIMERS Carla Garcia and Pastor Felix to seek input and ideas from our Prime Timers to help develop and offer activities that would rejuvenate participation in the group. Consider ways that would allow our senior members to have more involvement in the life of the church, and have a greater voice in the church. May 2018 2.6 MISSING MEMBER MINISTRY Establish a core group of volunteers who are willing to contact and connect with missing members. June 2019 Create guidelines. Seek more involvement from Nurture Committee members and Elders. 2.7 WELCOME CENTRE Create a Welcome Centre in the church foyer that would address the needs of New Members and Visitors tracts, booklets, directory. Oct 2018 Provide a brochure rack in the church foyer that will provide information on Inreach and Outreach Ministries, community activities, and how to get involved. Oct 2018 2.8 SPECIAL EVENT COORDINATOR Invite an individual or individuals willing to coordinate the purchase, preparation and serving of light snacks, desserts and refreshments for special events, primarily the Christmas Concert program and the Easter program. COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND EVANGELISM 1.0 LOCAL OUTREACH 1.1 CENTRAL CHURCH PROGRAMS Follow Christ s method of interacting with others, ministering to their needs, and winning their confidence by continuing to provide existing outreach programs that address community needs in areas of Health, Family, Compassion and Evangelism. Continue to provide Community Event programs that offer opportunities to foster relationships with the local community. 1.2 CHURCH PLANT PROGRAMS Church Plant Core Group to strategically target neighborhoods located within proximity to the NW community of Panorama. Calgary Central to continue to support our new church plant. Existing Outreach Ministries to work together with Church Plant Core Group to take their programs to where the needs are. Rent a facility in the Northern Hills area to run a Health Expo, Divorce Care, Depression and Anxiety Recovery, or Forgive to Live program. This would introduce us to the community. 1.3 KIDS DISCIPLESHIP CLUB Oct - Dec 2018 Make modifications to the existing program. The Model: Eat, Learn, Play. Time 6:00PM 7:30PM. Half an hour to snack, half an hour to learn (Bible classes), half and hour to play Provide a relaxing environment for parents to read a book, talk to other parents, have some tea or snacks, while their children play in an adjacent room Provide an opportunity (at least once a month) for parents to interact with their children Use volunteers from the church. 1.4 VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL Aug 2018 Pastor Adam to coordinate VBS program. Encourage involvement from adults and youth for assistance. Promote program to the community. 2.0 CHURCH MISSION TRIP Work with ADRA Connections, Maranatha Volunteers, or other volunteer agencies to develop mission projects that provide opportunities for members to get involved in service. Consider a long-term project to partner with a community to develop relationships and understanding of cultures. Nov 2018 7
