K K Y N S D M F D Sandymfd@ymail.com 402.890.2293 www.kampkaleo.com Words cannot adequately express the treasure of experiences the International Affairs Seminar gives to our youth. From the pomp and circumstance of the South Korean Prime Minister placing a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, to meeting with our Nebraska Representatives to learn about Immigration, to touring the monuments and museums of Washington DC, it is an incredible learning experience! Students were instructed to not only learn about immigration and aspects of it, but also to interact with immigrants in both cities. The latest count...our group had met and visited with people from at least 38 different countries. Our DC stop also included touring the Holocaust Museum, a sobering experience. Off to NYC where we visited the 9/11 Memorial. These students would have been in kindergarten or younger when 9/11 happened. You simply cannot come away unaffected. The ferry ride to Statue of Liberty and Ellis Islands took on a new meaning of High Seas...rocky boat! A play on Broadway, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the view from the Empire State Building. Ahhhh, NYC, just can't be beat! Check out the very cool fake green mustaches, as we left NYC on St. Patrick's Day, in the midst of the very famous NYC St. Patrick's Day parade! We had 13 go on this trip and are already gearing up for the next one! I have had so many requests to do one for adults that I will take it seriously. Watch for information to come for an October 2014 Adult IAS trip! Thanks always for your support of our youth in Nebraska! Kamp Kaleo Work Weekend will be April 25-27. Join us as we get camp ready for the 2014 camping season. Here is a list of some of the things we will need help doing: raking leaves; cleaning gutters; cleaning and preparing flower beds for planting; cleaning floors, walls and windows; and cleaning and organizing the Discovery Center. We also need some teens to help organize and inventory the camp store. Come for one day or stay the whole weekend! Bring rakes, shovels, tools, garbage bags, and work gloves. It will be a weekend of hard work, fun, and fellowship! Please email David Ridings at kampkaleo@gmail.com if you plan on being there so that we can prepare for accommodations and meals!
