THE LEGACY OF GOD S GENERAL Archbishop Roy Edward Brown Archbishop Roy Edward Brown made his entrance into God s world on February 28, 1943 in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Ollie Mae Shelton-Brown. He was the third of six children. His formative years were spent in Birmingham with his grandmother and there he received his early education in the public school system. He attended St. Paul Methodist Church in Birmingham under the pastorate of the late Reverend Wilson. At the young age of six, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. At the age of thirteen, he and his family moved to New York where he completed his education at the John Jay High School. It was therethat his gift for singing was discovered. He began formal training in voice (opera) and music. It was in the boiler room of that same school he was filled with the Holy Ghost. He later joined the Mt. Ollie Baptist Church where the late Reverend R. D. Brown was the pastor. At the age of seventeen, he acknowledged his call to the ministry and later began evangelizing. He was ordained a minister in April, 1964, and in 1965 he accepted his first pastorate at the First Baptist Church of Deer Park in Long Island, New York where he pastored for one year. Archbishop Brown met and married Telia Ruff, and to this union was born one child, Tiwana Elizabeth Brown. In 1966 he became pastor of Pilgrim Baptist Church, then located in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn, New York. His passion for soul winning included radio broadcasts, crusades, tent revivals and many other avenues of outreach. He was a man of great faith, love, prayer, hospitality, excellence and generosity. He also was a man of vision-. In addition to preaching, teaching and singing he was gifted in decorating, negotiating, producing and directing and he had a great love for teaching etiquette and the art of fashion. Archbishop Brown has been amically titled, A Man after God s own Heart - A Man with a Vision, The Alabama Special, The Singing and Praying Preacher as well as the Gatekeeper of the City. His pulpit was open to many up and coming Bishops, Pastors, Ministers, and Evangelists. He also ministered to vast congregations of various denominations.
He was consecrated as Bishop, July 18, 1990 and established the Pilgrim Assemblies International, Inc. on that same day. Pilgrim Assemblies is a Christian Reformation presently composed of churches throughout the United State, the Caribbean, South Africa and West Africa. He was elevated to the office of Archbishop, March 27, 1996. On July 12, 1998 the Pilgrim Church relocated to a larger worship facility in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn (formerly the Pilgrim Church Renaissance Convention Center). In 1998, Archbishop Brown met and married the love of his life, Paula Scarlett- she was his loving and devoted companion, friend and caregiver. Archbishop Brown served on many Community Board of Directors, and received many certificates, proclamations and honors from civic, political and religious organizations. The Pilgrim Cathedral of Harlem exists because of God s grace and the vision that He gave to one man, the Honorable Archbishop Roy E. Brown, the Chief Prelate of Pilgrim Assemblies International. God gave him the mandate to plant churches, and in obedience to the voice of God, the process began. Archbishop Brown became ill in 2005 and thereafter continued to have serious medical challenges, some life threatening, but God sustained him. When asked how he felt, he would almost always answer WONDERFUL. In 2011, God led him to install as pastor a daughter of the ministry, De Bora A. Crowe of New York. He later consecrated and appointed, Archbishop William Hudson, III to lead Pilgrim Assemblies International, Inc. Before taking him home on Saturday, June 2, God breathed into Archbishop Brown a breath of new life which he used to refresh, remind, and give some final instructions to Pilgrim Church and Pilgrim Assemblies International, Inc. Archbishop Roy Edward Brown leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife; Paula Brown; his daughter, Tiwana E. Brown; Sister; Yvonne Fields; Spiritual sons and daughters; and a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, relatives, and devoted church family and friends.

Grace and peace be unto you from God our father and the Lord Jesus Christ, I would like to thank God for the opportunity and privilege of being the wife to Archbishop Roy E. Brown for over 22 years. It was a huge honor to be a part of this amazing journey. Archbishop Roy E. Brown is the founder and was the chief prelate of Pilgrim Assemblies International, as well as the former Pastor of Pilgrim Father Church. Archbishop Roy E. Brown was a true example of a man of God who could calm the masses! The anointing has been so great on his life from childhood that teachers used him to keep the peace during school riots. Throughout his life many were healed, saved, set free and delivered by the anointing of Jesus Christ. The presence and power of God was so mighty during Church services, that it would take us out of flesh and leave us weeping and worshiping, unaware of time or what others thought. He would often say, I ve overcome public opinion. Crusades, revivals and tent services tapped into another dimension of God's power and glory. As he preached the presence of God was demonstrated in every sermon and the prophetic would astonish the crowds! There was no denying the power of the Holy Ghost fire on this man of God! Blind eyes were opened. As he preached in season and out, the lame walked, demons fled, the sick and broken hearted were healed just like in Luke 4:18 which says, The spirit of the Lord is upon me because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind to set at liberty them that are bruised. Archbishop Brown was a humble man and before preaching he would often say, I am a dummy and if God doesn t anoint me to speak then I have nothing to say! He taught us to fast, pray, worship and in everything give thanks! (I Thessalonians 5:18.) He was dedicated to the authenticity of the word of God! He would later start the Scripture Church to emphasize the Bible as the priority for all things! John 1:1-4, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God, The same was in the beginning with God. He made all things, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the
Another aspect of his ministry dealt with choosing men and woman of God to be leaders, pastors and bishops worldwide even when they had not chosen that route for themselves! Archbishop Roy E. Brown continued to lift up the name of Jesus while keeping the body of Christ focused on kingdom building. Churches were planted, leaders were appointed and souls came to the Lord! Archbishop Roy E. Brown would say, If God said it, then he will do it! Those same sentiments led him to have a radio broadcast, telecasts, produce plays, direct and conduct choirs and orchestras, create songs, and have performances at Carnegie Hall, purchase buildings, tents, antique furniture, buses, trucks, and even an ambulance, all for the people of God! He was a man of great vision, which led to the opening of Pilgrim Christian Academy where young lives were impacted with an academic and spiritual educational experience! His daily reminders from 1 Corinthians 10:31, Whatever you do in word or deed, do it all to the glory of God with a spirit of excellence made us all want to do and be ten times better just like in Daniel 1:20 which says, And in all matters of wisdom and understanding that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better... There are so many more achievements, visions and accomplishments of Archbishop Roy E. Brown, including his exquisite taste for food, fashion, and interior decorating! If I were to write a book about all the great things my husband achieved there would simply not be enough pages to contain them! His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts and minds of all of us. This is a man who trusted God in everything, believed God for anything, and worshiped God no matter what the circumstance! Even in the latter years, his sicknesses never caused him to waiver, doubt, murmur, complain or blame God. He continued to be active in ministry all the while keeping the faith in God to do the impossible! Luke 1:37 For with God nothing shall be impossible. Archbishop Roy E. Brown lived and believed wholeheartedly the word of God; and according to II Timothy 4:7, He fought a good fight, he stayed the course, and he kept the faith. I will forever cherish the memories that changed our lives to be true Christians by his love of God. After a long battle with illness, our gift to the body of Christ His Eminence fell asleep on June 2, 2018. II Samuel 7:12: And when thy days be fulfilled and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. On behalf of my husband and I, we would like to thank to everyone, especially Pastor De'Bora Crowe for the love, prayers, support and kindness, during this wonderful assignment to God's faithful anointed leader, teacher, preacher and prophet. To my dear husband, my friend, my pastor, my heart; II Timothy 4:8 Henceforth there is laid up for you a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge shall give you. Rest on, our good and faithful servant! I will always treasure the love we shared.
