Org/UMW The Mission Resource Center www.umwmissionresources.org I trust that you all are enjoying the warm weather, family gatherings, and the bounty provided by gardens and fruit from the tree and vine. Fruit reminds me of the fruit of the spirit as listed in Galatians 5:32 and of the kindness and love I always feel when I am around United Methodist Women. The fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, generosity, faithfulness and self-control. Keep spreading the love. WEST SIDE COMMUNITY HOUSE: In the Summer issue of THE BEACON I listed and thanked units who had contributed to the Summer of Sisterhood Program. I neglected to make it clear that these contributions were in response to the Spring letter specifically about the Sisterhood Program. It did not include many of you had already sent a donation at the end of 2014 and the beginning of 2015. I am sure individual and unit contributions still continue to be received. They are greatly appreciated and much needed. Lesson learned: be positive you have your facts together and clearly explain what they represent. SUMMER OF SISTERHOOD PERFORMANCE: Free 2015 Summer of Sisterhood live performance: August 7, 2015, 7 pm, Cleveland State University MC Auditorium, 1899 East 22 nd Street, Cleveland, Ohio 44115, $5.00 donation optional. I hope many of you will attend. It was moved from WSCH to CSU because of the over-flow attendance last year. When I see Sisterhood perform, I feel like a proud mother (or grandmother). EAST OHIO CONFERENCE UNITED METHODIST WOMEN ANNUAL CELEBRATION will be held at Norwalk First UMC Friday evening through Saturday, October 23-24. Our own Kevin Schaner, Church of the Saviour, will bring stories from participating in Ubuntu journeys to the Ivory Coast, Belfast, Lithuania, Cambodia and Zimbabwe on Friday night. Saturday will feature the business meeting and Thelma Tucker speaking on Opportunities for Service in Cap Haitian. A flyer and registration information is included in this newsletter. Why not start making plans to car pool attend with some of your unit members? Registration forms should be available at the Fall District Meeting. I appreciate all that you do to keep UMW alive and thriving. Margaret Bullard, President MEMBERSHIP, NURTURE AND OUTREACH Have you ever received a hand-written invitation to some nice event? Do you remember the good feeling you had when it arrived? It s always nice to be remembered and included. This Fall, as your unit returns to its usual routine, you might consider treating your regular and prospective members to a friendly, hand-written invitation. Our UMW ladies are special and that s what you will be saying. Elizabeth Claypool, Coordinator
The Beacon Page 2 JULY 2015 TREASURER S MESSAGE I hope all of you are enjoying the summer. Mission U was a great experience and it always offers excellent opportunities for study and fellowship. I was pleased to see our District represented by nine attendees and encourage all of you to consider attending next year, especially those who serve as leaders. I thank all of you who have sent remittances towards your pledges and encourage those of you who have not yet sent a remittance to do so, if you can. Our mission giving at the end of the second quarter was $16,065 in 5-Star Giving and $485 in Designated Giving, totaling $16,550. As you prepare your unit giving, consider becoming a 5-Star Unit and/or a Rainbow Unit. The 5-Star designation is given to units that have fulfilled their Pledge to Mission and have given to Special Mission Recognition, Gift to Mission, Gift in Memory, and World Thank Offering. A Rainbow Unit is a unit that gave more than had been pledged for the Pledge to Mission, or increased its pledge over the previous year, and fulfilled its pledge. Units are recognized at the Spring District Meeting where they are awarded a certificate, and at Annual Conference where they are named in the program. There is no need to wait until the end of the year to submit offerings. Our deadline for receiving money for mission will be significantly earlier this year, as we have a new Conference Treasurer. I you have fundraisers planned for later in the year, consider having them a little earlier, if possible. I look forward to seeing you at the Fall District Meeting. As always, you can contact me by phone at 216-261-6682 or by email at vbkay@roadrunner.com. Vicki Ratliff District Treasurer
