Baptism in The Holy Spirit: Gifts of the Spirit Part 2 I. Review of last week. A. 1 Corinthians 12:1 3 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant: 2 You know that you were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols, however you were led. 3 Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit. 1. God does not want us to be ignorant about spiritual gifts. a. Many Christians are ignorant about spiritual gifts today. 1) Some say that there are no spiritual gifts today 2) Some follow every supernatural thing and think it is of God. b. These both are ignorance and are dangerous. 2. Before salvation people are influenced by demons a. 1 Corinthians 12:2 You know that you were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols, however you were led. 1) Even Christian Churches or Denominations can start flowing in the power of Demons and not the power of God. 2) For us to stay in God power we must keep: a) Following God b) Following the word. 3. The gifts must point to Jesus a. 1 Corinthians 12:3 Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit. b. The give of the spirit have to point to Jesus as lord. c. with the vocal gifts like prophecy, tongue and interpretation of tongue need to give a message that is pointing to Jesus as Lord. 1) If a message come and brings fear. That is not a true gift of the spirit. 2) Even if there is a message of disaster that will happen it need to point the Jesus as the Lord and the solution to all. d. Also the non vocal gifts need to say Jesus is Lord. 1) This is done by what the gifts point to. 2) Sometime when people us the gifts it points to themselves. 3) They are special and you need to come to them. 4) The Gift needs to point that Jesus is special and you need to go to Him. 5) The gift of Healing needs to point people to Jesus as the Healer. 6) The gift of working in miracles need to point to Jesus as the Miracle Worker. II. 1 Corinthians 12:4 11 There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are
differences of ministries, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: 8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills. A. 1 Corinthians 12:4 6 There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. 1. There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. a. There are different gifts. b. As we will see there are 9 Gifts of the Spirit. c. All of the 9 gifts of spirit even thought they are different they are from the same Holy Spirit. d. Any thing that is coming from a different spirit is not a gift of the Spirit. e. The gifts do not come from our Spirits but from the Holy Spirit 2. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. a. There are different ministries in the church but they are all from the same Lord (Jesus). b. Jesus is the Lord of the Church and all the gifts come from Him. c. The Ministries are the place that each individual fills in the body of Christ. d. The Spiritual Gifts are are the supernatural abilities that we have working through us that help us fulfill the tasks that come with the position that we have in the Body of Christ. They also help us to do the works of Jesus and grater works. e. In 1 Corinthians 12:12 27 we are told about how each of us have a place in the body and them the ministries are talked about in 1 Corinthians 12:28 31 1) 1 Corinthians 12:27 31 Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually. 28 And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles? 30 Do all have gifts of healings? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? 31 But earnestly desire the best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way. a) We see the ministries of: 1. apostles 2. prophets
3. teachers 4. miracle worker 5. gifts of healings 6. helps 7. administrations 8. varieties of tongues. Giving messages in tongues Speaking in tongues f. The ministries are also listed in Romans 12:6 8 and Ephesians 4: 7 12 1) Romans 12:6 8 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; 7 or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; 8 he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness. 2) Ephesians 4:7 12 But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ's gift. 8 Therefore He says: "When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, And gave gifts to men." 9 (Now this, "He ascended" what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth? 10 He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.) 11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 3) list of the gifts from the these 3 scriptures. a) prophet b) ministering to others c) teacher d) exhorter e) giver f) leader g) mercy giver h) apostles i) evangelist j) pastor k) miracle worker l) gifts of healings m) helps n) administrations o) varieties of tongues.

We can see the healing taking place I different ways in Jesus ministries. 1) Mark 8:22 23 Then He came to Bethsaida; and they brought a blind man to Him, and begged Him to touch him. 23 So He took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the town. And when He had spit on his eyes and put His hands on him, He asked him if he saw anything. 2) Mark 10:46 52 Now they came to Jericho. As He went out of Jericho with His disciples and a great multitude, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the road begging. 47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" 48 Then many warned him to be quiet; but he cried out all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!" 49 So Jesus stood still and commanded him to be called. Then they called the blind man, saying to him, "Be of good cheer. Rise, He is calling you." 50 And throwing aside his garment, he rose and came to Jesus. 51 So Jesus answered and said to him, "What do you want Me to do for you?" The blind man said to Him, "Rabboni, that I may receive my sight." 52 Then Jesus said to him, "Go your way; your faith has made you well." And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus on the road. c. If the gifts works through a person by them speaking the word and through anther person by them spiting on a person eyes it is the same gift. From the same God just a different way of activity. B. 1 Corinthians 12:7,11 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills. 1. It is not the gift that is given but the manifestation of the gift is given. 2. We are not given the gifts to use as we want. 3. It is the manifestation of the gift that is given. 4. The manifestation of the gift is given for the profit of others not for the profit of the one that is given it. a. The person with the gift should not us the gift to take up bigger offerings b. The Gift of healing is not for the benefit of the one using the Gift. You do not heal your self. You heal someone else. 5. God wants to use each Christian in several gifts of the spirit. 6. The gifts of the spirit work though use as the spirit wills and as we will. a. We do not have to try to make the gifts work. b. We have to be in a place that we are sensitive to the spirit
1) spending time praying (fellowshipping with God) 2) spending time reading the word. 3) Spending time speaking in tounges c. We do not have to work at making the spirit gifts work we need to let then flow through us. 1) Some time people shout their eyes real tight and have a strained looking on their face when they are trying to flow in the gifts. 2) It is not from you. 3) Do not try to make it happen. 4) May you self ready. 5) Obey God. 6) Do not try to force it. 7) Let it flow out of you. When the spirit move on you. C. 1 Corinthians 12:8 10 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 1. word of wisdom a. is the plan of God about a present or future event 2. word of knowledge a. knowing a present or future fact by the spirit of God. 3. faith a. Receiving a miracle from God through special faith 4. gifts of healings a. healing b. the gifts and healings are both plural c. because there are difference types of healing for difference types of disease and different gifts of healings for difference types of diseases 5. working of miracles a. the abilty to work a miracle 6. prophecy a. speaking forth a supernatural message from God in a language known to the speaker. 7. discerning of spirits a. the ability to see in the spirit realm. b. to see angles and demons. 8. different kinds of tongues a. speaking a message from God in a language that is unknown to the speaker 9. interpretation of tongues.
a. Giving the interpretation of a message that was given in tongue. b. It is not a direct translation but interprets the meaning DISCUSSION QUESTIONS Hove you seen the gifts of the spirit in operation? If yes explain what happened.
