Prelude: Deck Thyself, My Soul, With Gladness by Johannes Brahmns OPENING HYMN: Thy strong word did cleave the darkness Hymnal 381 Priest: Blessed be God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. All: And blessed be God's kingdom, now and for ever. THE PRAYER FOR PURITY All: Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your Holy Name, through Christ our Lord. Amen. All: Glory to God in the highest, and peace to his All on earth. Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father, we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory. Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us; you are seated at the right hand of the Father: receive our prayer. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen. THE PRAYER OF THE DAY Priest: The Lord be with you. All: And also with you. Priest: Dear God, we have all heard of the 10 Commandments. The 4th Commandment says we are supposed to observe the Sabbath and keep it holy. For us Christians, Sabbath means Sunday. Before Jesus came to be with us, your people believed they could not do anything on the Sabbath. They could not even help someone who really needed help. And today, dear God, we are going to hear about some people who got mad at Jesus because he gave bread to hungry people on the Sabbath. And because he cured a man who had a crippled hand on the Sabbath. Lord, we will hear Jesus tell us about how important it is to help people, even on the Sabbath. We will hear him say that excuses to not help people are bad news. In our other Bible reading, we will hear that we are supposed to be like Jesus. That the good things we do for other people help to make the world a better place. Father God, we pray all these things through our Lord Jesus Christ. SCRIPTURE READINGS 2

A reading from the book of Deuteronomy (5:12-15). Observe the Sabbath day and keep it holy, as the LORD your God commanded you. Six days you shall labor and do all your work. But the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God; you shall not do any work you, or your son or your daughter, or your male or female slave, or your ox or your donkey, or any of your livestock, or the resident alien in your towns, so that your male and female slave may rest as well as you. Remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the LORD your God brought you out from there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm; therefore the LORD your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day. This is the word of the Lord. Psalm 81:1-10 1 Sing with joy to God our strength * and raise a loud shout to the God of Jacob. 2 Raise a song and sound the timbrel, * the merry harp, and the lyre. 3 Blow the ram's-horn at the new moon, * and at the full moon, the day of our feast. 4 For this is a statute for Israel, * a law of the God of Jacob. 5 He laid it as a solemn charge upon Joseph, * when he came out of the land of Egypt. 6 I heard an unfamiliar voice saying * "I eased his shoulder from the burden; his hands were set free from bearing the load." 7 You called on me in trouble, and I saved you; * I answered you from the secret place of thunder and tested you at the waters of Meribah. 8 Hear, O my people, and I will admonish you: * O Israel, if you would but listen to me! 9 There shall be no strange god among you; * you shall not worship a foreign god. 10 I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and said, "Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it." The Epistle A reading from 2 Corinthians (4:5-12). We do not proclaim ourselves; we proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and ourselves as your slaves for Jesus sake. For it is the God who said, Let light shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in clay jars, so that it may be made clear that this extraordinary power belongs to God and does not come from us. We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be made visible in our bodies. 3

For while we live, we are always being given up to death for Jesus sake, so that the life of Jesus may be made visible in our mortal flesh. So death is at work in us, but life in you. This is the word of the Lord. MUSIC BEFORE THE GOSPEL: Open your ears, O faithful people Hymnal 536 THE GOSPEL SERMON: The Rev. Pete Wright THE NICENE CREED We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE 4 Priest: Let us pray for the Church and for the World. Reader: We give thanks and pray for our families, neighbors, caregivers, teachers, and friends. Reader: We give thanks and pray for our church, especially Father Con, Father Pete, and our bishops. Reader: We pray that all countries in the world can live in peace. We pray for our President and all world leaders that they will make choices and decisions that help their people. Reader: We pray for anyone who is sick or hurting in any way and for all who care for

them. Reader: We pray for those who are poor, hungry, or in need. Reader: We pray for those who have died and the people who miss them. Reader: We pray for anyone who has not yet found their way to you, God. We hope that they may come to know and experience your love. All: Lord hear our prayer. Reader: We give thanks and pray for the Earth. We pray that we may take good care of it and its resources. Reader: We give thanks and pray for our pets and all the animals God created. Reader: We pray that we may live the way Jesus lived and wants us to live. People: Lord, hear our prayer. BIRTHDAYS AND ANNIVERSARIES BIRTHDAY PRAYER: ALL: Watch over your child, O Lord, as his/her/their days increase; bless and guide him/her/them wherever he/she/they may be. Strengthen him/ her/them when he/she/they stand(s); comfort him/her/them when discouraged or sorrowful; raise him/her/them up if he/she/they fall; and in his/her/their heart may your peace which passes understanding abide all the days of his/her/their life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. ANNIVERSARY PRAYER: ALL: O God, you have so consecrated the covenant of marriage that in it is represented the spiritual unity between Christ and his Church: Send therefore your blessing upon these your servants, that they may so love, honor, and cherish each other in faithfulness and patience, in wisdom and true godliness, that their home may be a haven of blessing and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen CONFESSION OF SINS Reader: We pray to you also for the forgiveness of our sins. All: Have mercy upon us most merciful Father. Forgive our sins: bad things we have done, and good things we have not done. Support us with your Holy Spirit so we can start over again, faithful to you, dear Father, and loving others as Jesus loves us. Amen Priest: Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through our Lord 5

Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen. All: Amen THE PEACE Priest: The peace of the Lord be always with you. All: And also with you. Priest: Please share Christ's peace with those around you. ANNOUNCEMENTS OFFERTORY OFFERTORY HYMN: NOW SING WE JOYFULLY UNTO GOD BY GORDON YOUNG HOLY COMMUNION Priest: The Lord be with you. All: And also with you. Priest: Lift up your hearts. All: We lift them to the Lord. Priest: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People: It is right to give God thanks and praise. Priest: God of all power, Ruler of the Universe, you are worthy of glory and praise. All: Glory to you for ever and ever. Priest: At your command all things came to be: the vast expanse of interstellar space, galaxies, suns, the planets in their courses, rand this fragile earth, our island home. All: By your will they were created and have their being. Priest: From the primal elements you brought forth the human race, rand blessed us with memory, reason, and skill. You made us the rulers of creation. But we turned against you, and betrayed your trust; and we turned against one another. All: Have mercy, Lord, for we are sinners in your sight. Priest: Again and again, you called us to return. Through prophets rand sages you revealed your righteous Law. And in the fullness of time you sent your only Son, born of a woman, to fulfill your Law, to open for us the way of freedom and peace. All: By his blood, he reconciled us. By his wounds, we are healed. Priest: And therefore we praise you, joining with the heavenly chorus, with prophets, apostles, and martyrs, and with all those in every generation who have looked to you in 6

hope, to proclaim with them your glory, in their unending hymn: All: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. Priest: And so, Father, we who have been redeemed by him, and made a new people by water and the Spirit, now bring before you these gifts. Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ our Lord. On the night he was betrayed he took bread, said the blessing, broke the bread, and gave it to his friends, and said, Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. After supper, he took the cup of wine, gave thanks, and said, Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me. Remembering now his work of redemption, and offering to you this sacrifice of thanksgiving... All: We celebrate his death and resurrection, as we await the day of his coming. Priest: Lord God of our Fathers; God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ: Open our eyes to see your hand at work in the world about us. Deliver us from the presumption of coming to this Table for solace only, and not for strength; for pardon only, and not for renewal. Let the grace of this Holy Communion make us one body, one spirit in Christ, that we may worthily serve the world in his name. All: Risen Lord, be known to us in the breaking of the Bread. Priest: Accept these prayers and praises, Father, through Jesus Christ our great High Priest, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, your Church gives + honor, + glory, and + worship, from generation to generation. All: Risen Lord, be known to us in the breaking of the Bread. THE LORD'S PRAYER Priest: And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to pray, All: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen. Priest: Alleluia. Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us; All: Therefore, let us keep the feast. Alleluia. 7

Priest: The Gifts of God for the People of God. Take them in remembrance that Christ died for you, and feed on him in your hearts by faith, with thanksgiving. HYMNS DURING COMMUNION: PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION I, the Lord of Sea and Sky There is a balm in Gilead Hymnal 676 Eternal God, heavenly Father, you have graciously accepted us as living members of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ, and you have fed us with spiritual food in the Sacrament of his Body and Blood. Send us now into the world in peace, and grant us strength and courage to love and serve you with gladness and singleness of heart; through Christ our Lord. Amen. Just as Jesus welcomed everyone to himself in love, in the Episcopal Church everyone is welcome to receive Communion. If you do not wish to receive communion, you may come to the altar rail, cross your hands across your chest, and the priest will ask God's blessing for you.. BLESSING CLOSING SONG This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine; This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine; Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.
