The Parables of Jesus Masters and Servants Luke 17:7 10

The Text Luke 17:7 10 But which of you, having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, will say unto him by and by, when he is come from the field, go and sit down to meat? And will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird thyself, and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken; and afterward thou shalt eat and drink? Doth he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I think not. So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.

Background of Text Luke 17:1-2 One day Jesus said to his disciples, There will always be (offences) temptations to sin, but what sorrow awaits the person who does the tempting! It would be better to be thrown into the sea with a millstone hung around your neck than to cause one of these little ones to fall into sin. So watch yourselves! Offences, Stumbling Block, Temptations = Skandalon - The trigger or stick regulating a snare, trap, hole, entanglement designed to capture, destroy. Tempters = peran (accusative case) piercing: malicious examiners, crafty questioners, faithless untrusting fans

Trap Setters Make Interesting Bedfellows John 8:3 6 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.

Trap Setters Make Interesting Bedfellows Matthew 16:1The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven. Matthew 19:3The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? Matthew 22:35Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,

Be Careful Who You Sleep With You Will Wake Up With Something Matthew 18:6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea. These little ones = sheep like spirit of obedience, a child-like spirit of pleasing the father,

1. What Do You Expect From Servants? Luke 17:7 8 But which of you, having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, will say unto him by and by, when he is come from the field, go and sit down to meat? And will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird thyself, and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken; and afterward thou shalt eat and drink?

2. Servants, Do You Demand Thanks For Your Service? Luke 17:10 Doth he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I think not.

3. Stop Feeling Offended and Keep Busy Serving Luke 17:10 So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.

Midweek Luke 17:1 10 If you had to make a list of things that you haven't completed as a servant of God just for this week what would be included so far?

People Without Identity Will Always Feel Offended Luke 17:7 8 But which of you, having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, will say unto him by and by, when he is come from the field, go and sit down to meat? And will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird thyself, and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken; and afterward thou shalt eat and drink?

Servants Serve Before The Lord (never get tired of hearing his voice) Psalms 95 11 O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms. For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In his hand are the deep places of the earth: the strength of the hills is his also. The sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land. O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker. For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice, Harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness: When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my work. Forty years long was I grieved with this generation, and said, It is a people that do err in their heart, and they have not known my ways: Unto whom I sware in my wrath that they should not enter into my rest.

Servants Must Change Clothes Around The Master Psalm 100:1 5 Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands, Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.
