Biography of Most Reverend Edward J. Weisenburger Bishop Weisenburger Appointed to Roman Catholic Edward Weisenburger was born in Alton, Illinois on December 23, 1960, to Edward John Weisenburger and Asella (Walters) Weisenburger, the third of their four surviving children. His father was a military officer and his mother a homemaker. Weisenburger grew up primarily in Lawton, Oklahoma, where he graduated from high school in 1979. He attended Conception Seminary College in Missouri, graduating with honors in 1983. He then attended the American College Seminary at the Catholic University of Louvain in Leuven, Belgium, earning the Pontifical S.T.B. in Theology, an M.A. in Religious Studies, and a Masters in Moral and Religious Sciences. In the spring of 1987 he returned to Oklahoma and began three years of ministry at St. Mary Church in Ponca City, OK. On December 19, 1987 he was ordained to the priesthood at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Oklahoma City by The Most Reverend Charles A. Salatka, Archbishop of Oklahoma City. Weisenburger attended the University of St. Paul in Ottawa, Canada from 1990 1992, earning the pontifical J.C.L. degree in canon law. Upon his return home he was appointed Vice-chancellor and Adjutant Judicial Vicar. In addition to chancery and tribunal duties he also did weekend parish and prison ministries from 1992 to 1995 and served as an on-site chaplain for rescue workers in the weeks following the April 19, 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. In the fall of 1995 he began 17 years of service on the Council of Priests and the College of Consulters. He likewise served as a member of the Seminarian Board for fifteen years. In June of 1996 he was appointed Vicar General of the Oklahoma City Archdiocese. He was an officer with the Archdiocesan Tribunal for almost 20 years and served as Promoter of Justice for the cause of canonization of Blessed Stanley Francis Rother. On October 2, 2009 he was appointed a Prelate of Honor to His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI, with the title Reverend Monsignor. Bishop Weisenburger served as pastor of two parishes: Holy Trinity in Okarche, Oklahoma (1995-2002) and the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Oklahoma City (2002-2012). On February 6, 2012, Weisenburger was appointed Bishop of Salina, Kansas, by His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI. He was ordained a bishop at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Salina, on May 1, 2012, with the Most Reverend Joseph Naumann, Metropolitan Archbishop of Kansas City presiding. Co-consecraters were the Most Reverend Eusebius J. Beltran, Archbishop Emeritus of Oklahoma City, and the Most Reverend Paul S. Coakley, Archbishop of Oklahoma City. On October 3, 2017, Weisenburger was appointed Bishop of Tucson by His Holiness, Pope Francis. His installation is set for November 29, 2017, at St. Augustine Cathedral in Tucson. Weisenburger enjoys membership in the Knights of Columbus as well as the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Conception Seminary College as well as the national Catholic Rural Life organization. When time permits, he enjoys reading and occasional travel. Bishop Weisenburger s mother died on March 22, 1998, and his father died on December 22, 2013. The Bishop s siblings include a sister, Mrs. Mary Jung of Yukon, Oklahoma (her husband Don Jung, their three children and five grandchildren); a sister, Mrs. Adina Heller of Corinth, Texas (her husband Karl Heller and their two children); a brother, Mr. Timothy J. Weisenburger (and his wife Donna) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; former sister-in- law Mary Weisenburger of Houston, Texas (and their son); and a sister who died at birth, Catherine Weisenburger. He will be installed as the Tucson s bishop on November 29,2017. He comes from the Diocese of Salina Kansas. He has served as a bishop in Kansas since 2012. He will succeed Bishop Gerald Kicanas as the new head of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tucson. Senior Parishioners: St Rose of Lima will celebrate Mass on Oct 22nd at 10:00am for all our senior parishioners over 80 years of age. It is also Our Lady of Guadalupe Fiesta. They have a Raffle on going, It is a 3 x5 Framed Picture of the Last Supper 3 Statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe Lap-Afghan Tickets are a $1.00 or 6 for $5.00. Let us all come together as community to help everyone. We all need to get involve so that there will be no more unnecessary persons dying. It is up to us to stop the bullying, rumors, and the unfairness in the world. We have to start doing something, not just ignore the problem because it won t get better, unless we fix it. Parents and godparents need to attend the parish baptismal class. Classes are given on the second Saturday of the month from 10:00 a.m. until noon. Please call the office to sign up for the next scheduled class. All requirements for the Diocese of Tucson and Saint Rose of Lima will be given to the parents at this time. Baptisms are performed the first and third Saturdays at 10:00 a.m. Our office staff is limited, therefore, sponsors and godparents proof of sacraments, documents and payment must be submitted at least one month before the baptism. When choosing godparents, if they are married, they must be married through the Catholic church, if single you must not be living with a partner. Donation is $20.00. Quinceañera The candidate and her parents must contact the office at least one (1) year or more before the date requested. Quinceañera are not performed during Holy Days. Requirements: active within the parish, youth group, Religious Education, Mass attendance, etc. or Six(6) sets of meetings and volunteer ministries given by Fr. Robert. Cost is $250.00. There is a non-refundable deposit of $100.00 to hold the date. Balance to the church must be received in the office one week before the ceremony. Weddings The couple must contact office at least 6 months prior to the desired wedding date. An appointment will be made for the couple. At that time it will be determined if the date desired is available, and all requirements for the Diocese of Tucson and Saint Rose of Lima will be given to the couple. Donation is $150.00.There is a non-refundable deposit of $50.00 to hold the date. Balance to the church must be received in the office one week before the ceremony.

Mandatory for all Confirmation students and recommended for parents and sponsors to attend also. This is mandatory for Students Once a month meeting for all teachers, and Heads of Ministries. Let us communicate with each other so there are no surprises. Meet with Fr. Robert so we can plan the following month and talk about concerns pertaining to Religious Education. Donations Needed We need donations of buttons, plastic Easter eggs, paper plates, colored tissue paper, and pipe cleaners for the craft booths planned for our church fiesta. Please bring your donations to the office by October 13. Thanks in advance. Coloring Contest Color sheets of Our Lady of Guadalupe are available in the office for children grades K-8. Winners will be announced at the fiesta on October 21. Family Rosary Throughout the month of October, the RE students will being asked to pray the rosary at home with their family. Please help your student with this important activity. Folklorico Dance Practice In preparation for our performance during Our Lady of Guadalupe Church Fiesta on October 21, all RE students are required to attend dance practice immediately after Mass in the parish hall. Fiesta Competitions/Events If you would like to participate in the Corn Hole Tournament, Sidewalk Chalk Art Competition, and/or Chihuahua Dog Race, please complete a Fiesta Event Form available in the office. The entry fee is $5 per participant for each event or competition.
