Lesson Two: The Good Samaritan

Adultery in the Heart. By Robert C. Archer

Transcription:

For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. Matt. 5:20

what do you do more than others? Matt. 5:47

Therefore do not be like them. Matt. 6:8

But they mingled with the Gentiles and learned their works; Ps. 106:35

43 You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighborand hate your enemy. 44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you,

and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if

you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so?

48 Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect. Matt. 5:43-48

37 Jesus said to him, You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment.

39 And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. Matt. 22:37-39

On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets. Matt. 22:40

8 Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. 9 For the commandments, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder,

You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, You shall not covet, and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

10 Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. Rom. 13:8-10

The stranger who dwells among you shall be to you as one born among you, and you shall love him as yourself; for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God. Lev. 19:34

43 You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighborand hate your enemy. 44 But I say to you, love your enemies, Matt. 5:43-44

You shall not see your brother s ox or his sheep going astray, and hide yourself from them; you shall certainly bring them back to your brother. 2 And if your brother is not near you,

or if you do not know him, then you shall bring it to your own house, and it shall remain with you until your brother seeks it; then you shall restore it to him. Deut. 22:1-2

If you meet your enemy s ox or his donkey going astray, you shall surely bring it back to him again. 5 If you see the donkey of one who hates you lying under its burden,

and you would refrain from helping it, you shall surely help him with it. Ex. 23:4-5

One law shall be for the native-born and for the stranger who dwells among you. Ex. 12:49

12 They reward me evil for good, to the sorrow of my soul. 13 But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth; I humbled myself with fasting;

and my prayer would return to my own heart. 14 I paced about as though he were my friend or brother; I bowed down heavily, as one who mourns for his mother. Ps. 35:12-14

David also arose afterward, went out of the cave, and called out to Saul, saying, My lord the king! And when Saul looked behind him, David stooped with his face to the earth, and bowed down. 1 Sam. 24:8

18 And you have shown this day how you have dealt well with me; for when the LORD delivered me into your hand, you did not kill me. 19 For if...

a man finds his enemy, will he let him get away safely? Therefore may the LORD reward you with good for what you have done to me this day. 1 Sam. 24:18-19

11 Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. 12 Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven,

for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. Matt. 5:11-12

(1.) Express love

21 If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink; 22 For so you will heap coals of fire on his head, and the LORD will reward you. Prov. 25:21-22

19 Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, Vengeance is Mine, I will repay, says the Lord. 20 Therefore If your enemy is hungry,

feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head. 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Rom. 12:19-21

Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. Rom. 5:5
