Pastor s Corner What Word Describes Your Nation? One of the skills I developed in seminary is research. Not how to find justification for what you believe, but the ability to discover what is true. I believe this is an important skill for pastors to have. 1 Chronicles 12:32 promoted this skill when it said, from the tribe of Issachar, there were 200 leaders of the tribe with their relatives. All these men understood the signs of the times and knew the best course for Israel to take. Admittedly, it is difficult for the general public to discern between who has conducted honest research and who simply looked for justification. I know you may have a hard time believing what I am about to say because you cannot know for sure if I have truthfully researched my answer. What I do ask is that you give my answer a fair hearing and then test it yourself. What Word Describes Your Nation? There are many answers to this question. Each answer has some merit and each is true to some degree. However, there is one word that has risen in probability over the past two decades and it is still rising. The answer to this question, What Word Describes Your Nation? is HATEFUL. The United States of America is falling quickly into a pit of hatred. How could this happen and how could it happen so quickly? Part of the reason for all this hatred is that hatred has always been a part of our lives. What is different today is the justification and celebration of hatred. persecuted by non-christians for believing in Jesus Christ. Today, Christians are persecuted by Christians for telling Christians that they should live and think the way Christ told us to live and think. I have never been surprised by the hatred non- Christians have toward others. However, I am desperately worried about the hatred Christians have for everyone who does not look like, act like, or think like they do. Please meditate on the following scriptures and take off your old self and put on Christ as your garment. Matthew :9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Ephesians 4:31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Matthew :43-44 "You have heard that it was said, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR and hate your enemy.' "But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you Ephesian 4:26 "In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry No matter how much the world hates me for promoting love over hate, I will not stop loving them. I love you even if you disagree with me for you are my brothers and sisters. Pastor Brian Shepard Each citizen of the USA is judged by who or what he or she hates. If you don t hate the right things or people - you are hated. The arguments about what you do or do not hate draw lines of division like never before. These lines are not philosophical. They are as actual and deep as the Grand Canyon. This puts me and many other Christians in a very difficult position. In the USA, we are not 4
