What is Godly Love? 1 John 4:7-12 o Who is source of love? o Who makes it possible for us to love? o What must happen to us before we can truly love? o Why should we love one another? o How is God s love perfected in us? o What is the evidence that God dwells in us? o Why do must people not love each other? 1 John 3:18 o How does God want us to love? o What do you think this means? o Why do you think expressing love this way is important? _ **Actions speak louder than words** 1 Corinthians 13:3-8 Define each of the following terms describing what love is. o Long suffering: o Is kind: o Is not envious: o Does not vaunt itself: o Is not puffed up: o Does not behave unseemly: o Does not seek her own: o Is not easily provoked: 11

o Thinketh no evil: o Rejoiceth not in iniquity: o Rejoices in truth: o Bears all things: o Believes all things: o Hopes all things: o Endures all things: o It never fails: We need God God is love. Thus, the source for godly love in our home must be God. If He abides in our heart, His love inside us will manifest itself outwardly in our actions. Although we may not always feel like being loving, we express love because we care about others and most importantly we care about obeying God. Trying to express godly love in your deeds without God in your heart will be a frustrating and miserable experience. True, satisfying love begins with a relationship God. Do you have a relationship with God? 12

Family Discipleship Strategy 1. GET TRAINED This involves personal as well as family development in your spiritual walk with the Lord. Develop 1. Godly character (Colossians 2:6) o What would be a few examples of how to do this? 2. A working and growing knowledge of the Bible (1 Peter 2:2) o How can you accomplish this? 3. Skills to enhance your spiritual growth (2 Timothy 2:2) o What type of skills will enhance spiritual growth? Development in these three areas will aid you in pursuing four principle goals: 1. Matthew 22:36-38 2. Matthew 22:39 3. 2 Corinthians 5:18-20 4. Hebrews 10:24 2. ORGANIZE A FAMILY BIBLE STUDY Establish goals if you expect to accomplish anything for the Lord. 1. Pray for God s wisdom and direction to establish a Bible study. 2. Invite one or two families to your house for fellowship and study 3. Build friendships in the group. 4. Encourage participation. 27

3. DISCIPLE 1. Study the Family Discipleship series. 2. If the couple is lost, study the Bible Concepts. 3. Be a good example of how a Christian family lives. 4. Share the vision of discipling other families. 5. Keep it going and multiply. 28
