REFLECTIONS I am wired by nature to love the same toys that the world loves. I start to fit in. I start to love what others love. I start to call earth "home." Before you know it, I am calling luxuries "needs" and using my money just the way unbelievers do. I begin to forget the war. I don't think much about people perishing. Missions and unreached people drop out of my mind. I stop dreaming about the triumphs of grace. I sink into a secular mind-set that looks first to what man can do, not what God can do. It is a terrible sickness. And I thank God for those who have forced me again and again toward a wartime mind-set. from Don't Waste Your Life John Piper Joy is not gush. Joy is not mere jolliness. Joy is perfect acquiescence acceptance, rest in God's will, whatever comes. Amy Carmichael If God is sovereign and He loves me, and [my affliction is] not going away, this is not an interruption in my Christian life; this is my Christian life. Thank you. Please use this time for prayer and meditation as we prepare to go before the living God in worship. P R A I S E CALL TO WORSHIP: Psalm 96 Pastor: Sing to the LORD, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day. All: Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples! Pastor: Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the peoples, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength! All: Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; bring an offering, and come into his courts! Pastor: Worship the LORD in the splendor of holiness; tremble before him all the earth! Come, let us worship. HYMN OF PRAISE: 53 Praise to the Lord, the Almighty PRAYER OF PRAISE AND THE LORD'S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever, Amen. 2

C O N F E S S I O N SCRIPTURE READING: Proverbs 3:5-8 5 6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all 7 your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own 8 eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones. Leader: All: This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God! CORPORATE CONFESSION OF SIN: All: Lord God, we hear your call going out to all the earth imploring us to worship you in the splendor of holiness, yet we are sinful. We hear your Word commanding us to trust in you with all our heart, yet we frequently lean on our own understanding. We confess that we are slow to acknowledge you in our lives and are often drawn to evil. We come confessing our sins and claiming Jesus Christ as our Savior. For his sake, please forgive our wickedness. We do not deserve your mercy and we cannot condition your love so we rely on your grace. We praise you because your steadfast love never ceases and your mercies never come to an end. Holy Spirit, help us to trust, acknowledge, and fear the Lord and therefore turn away from all evil. Refresh our bones and reshape our lives. Amen. SILENT REFLECTION AND CONFESSION WORDS OF ASSURANCE & PEACE OF GOD: based on John 3:16,17; Acts 13:38 Pastor: God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life. All: God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Pastor: Let it be known to you that through this man, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. The peace of Christ be with you all. People: And also with you. HYMN: 448 We Have Heard the Joyful Sound 3

C O M M I T M E N T OFFERTORY PRAYER OFFERTORY How Can I Keep from Singing Riverwood Choir Presentation of tithes & offerings DOXOLOGY (Hymnal, page 731) AFFIRMATION OF FAITH: taken from Hebrews 1 & 2 All: We believe in God's Son, the Lord Jesus Christ through whom God created the world and by whom he has spoken to us. Jesus is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature. As the founder of our salvation, he experienced suffering and death for us, made propitiation for our sins and destroyed the one who has the power of death. He upholds the universe by the word of his power and, after making purification for sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. He is superior to angels, everlasting in his Kingly reign, and eternal in his being and glory. So we believe that Jesus is fully God, and our Prophet, Priest, and King. P R E A C H I N G O F T H E W O R D SCRIPTURE: Acts 16:6-15 6 And they went through the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been forbidden by the 7 Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia. And when they had come up to Mysia, they 8 attempted to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them. So, passing by 9 Mysia, they went down to Troas. And a vision appeared to Paul in the night: a man of Macedonia was standing there, urging him and saying, Come over to Macedonia and help 10 us. And when Paul had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go on into Macedonia, 11 concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them. So, setting sail from 12 Troas, we made a direct voyage to Samothrace, and the following day to Neapolis, and from there to Philippi, which is a leading city of the district of Macedonia and a Roman 13 colony. We remained in this city some days. And on the Sabbath day we went outside the gate to the riverside, where we supposed there was a place of prayer, and we sat down and 14 spoke to the women who had come together. One who heard us was a woman named Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a seller of purple goods, who was a worshiper of God. The 15 Lord opened her heart to pay attention to what was said by Paul. And after she was baptized, and her household as well, she urged us, saying, If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come to my house and stay. And she prevailed upon us. SERMON: Closed Doors and Opened Hearts Rev.
