The St. James Scribes Scribes is a small group of parishioners who love words, writing and sharing their works and thoughts in a small, friendly group setting. We share and discuss our work on just about any topic. There is no criticism unless it is requested by the author. And we have fun! If you have any questions or think you might be interested in joining or simply coming to sit in, call Pam Maisano at 808-9919. We would love to hear from you. Suspended Nativity Scribes: D Esta Verdicchio, Angelicia Nizza, Joan Behrens, Pam Maisano, and Richard Rouillard. missing: Teresa Sparrow Thoughts on Becoming 77 My mind has difficulty computing 77, 77 years old I mean. Perhaps it s 7 plus 7? But, my mind doesn t compute 14 either! Is 77 really old? The world says YES! My mind says NO! $77.00 isn t so much, unless you have none. When you become 77 Do you have to be feeble in both Mind and body, Or just one or the other? When will my mind tell me You re all grown up and numbers don t matter. Life, after all, is eternal. D Esta Verdicchio April 3, 2017 Three babies in the old Christmas tree now and it s July. How did a Cardinal mother carry sheets of birch bark papyrus so far to make a solid cradle nest? But there it is, slung between red, blue, green Christmas lights and plastic needles of an artificial pine. I don t guess it was so hard after all. They had to have someplace to lie, curled underneath her warm red wings waiting for enough soft auburn fur to carry them across the yard to the white Rose of Sharon where the other nestlings live. Late summer s a hard, hard time to ride out storms and heat in an abandoned Christmas tree, but these babes singing with lively peeps are Cardinals, after all; babies like scarlet ornaments, fragile and bright among the lights of a suspended summer nativity. Pam Maisano 2017 Prayer Justice begins with prayer. What is justice? What is prayer? Why did I have that thought come to me as I came out of a brief doze in morning awakening? If today you hear His voice, harden not your hearts. Psalm 95 Richard Rouillard 2017
