*THE READING OF LUKE 7:43-49 THE PRAYERS OF CONFESSION ALL: Gracious Father, whose words give life: We confess that our words have often led us into sin. With the same mouth we have sung songs of praise and uttered profanities; encouraged some and slandered others; spoken truth and lied; built people up and torn them down. We have failed to thank those who have blessed us; speak grace to those who are discouraged; hold our tongue when angry; provide words that edify for the need of the moment. Thank you Jesus for never speaking an idle word, for always speaking the truth in love. On the basis of your death, forgive us for the careless, unhelpful and hurtful words we have spoken. Enable us to control what we say that we may always speak the truth in love. PRIVATE (A time of silent and private confessions for personal sins) LEADER: Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit. ALL: Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise. *God, Be Merciful to Me God, be merciful to me, on Thy grace I rest my plea; Plenteous in compassion Thou, blot out my transgressions now; Wash me, make me pure within, cleanse, O cleanse me from my sin. My transgressions I confess, grief and guilt my soul oppress; I have sinned against Thy grace and provoked Thee to Thy face; I confess Thy judgment just, speechless, I Thy mercy trust. I am evil, born in sin; Thou desirest truth within. Thou alone my Savior art, teach Thy wisdom to my heart; Make me pure, Thy grace bestow, wash me whiter than the snow. Gracious God, my heart renew, make my spirit right and true; Cast me not away from Thee, let Thy Spirit dwell in me; Thy salvation s joy impart, steadfast make my willing heart. Sinners then shall learn from me and return, O God to Thee; Savior all my guilt remove, and my tongue shall sing Thy love; Touch my silent lips, O Lord, and my mouth shall praise accord. Words by Richard Redhead Music by Chris Miner Chris Miner Music.UBP.ARR.CCLI#245668

*THE RESPONSIVE READING: PSALM 19 LEADER: The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. ALL: Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. LEADER: There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard. ALL: Their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. LEADER: The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; ALL: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; LEADER: the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; ALL: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes; LEADER: the fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; ALL: the rules of the LORD are true, and righteous altogether. LEADER: More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; ALL: sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. LEADER: Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward. ALL: Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me! LEADER: Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression. ALL: Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.

*#390 May the Mind of Christ, My Savior May the mind of Christ my Savior live in me from day to day, By His love and pow r controlling all I do and say. May the Word of God dwell richly in my heart from hour to hour, So that all may see I triumph only thru His pow r. May the peace of God my Father rule my life in ev rything, That I may be calm to comfort sick and sorrowing. May the love of Jesus fill me as the waters fill the sea; Him exalting, self abasing--this is victory. May I run the race before me, strong and brave to face the foe, Looking only unto Jesus as I onward go. May the mind of Christ my Savior live in me from day to day, By His love and pow r controlling all I do and say, All I do and say. TEXT: Kate B. Wilkinson MUSIC: A.
