Becoming a faithful steward of God s abundant blessings, enables us to experience the joy of giving. Some have humorously suggested that we should give until it hurts, while the discipline of stewardship suggests that we give until it feels good. Discovering God s will for our lives and resources is an opportunity for spiritual growth and a deepening of our relationship with God. 11

=6/*N($*3()76/44O+3M%P By considering our gift to the church as a proportion of income, we establish priorities that reflect our relationship with God. Determining our giving to God through the church requires prayer and faith. Biblical tradition, as well as the teaching of the Episcopal Church, suggests the practice of giving away 10% (a tithe) of our income. For some, it is helpful to calculate the current percent of income given to the church and to grow one or two percent per year until the tithe is reached. As a guide for your stewardship journey, we offer this proportionate giving chart. Proportional Giving Annual Income 2% 4% 6% 8% 10% 12% 15% $30,000 $600 $1,200 $1,800 $2,400 $3,000 $3,600 $4,500 $40,000 $800 $1,600 $2,400 $3,200 $4,000 $4,800 $6,000 $50,000 $1,000 $2,000 $3,000 $4,000 $5,000 $6,000 $7,500 $75,000 $1,500 $3,000 $4,500 $6,000 $7,500 $9,000 $11,250 $100,000 $2,000 $4,000 $6,000 $8,000 $10,000 $12,000 $15,000 $125,000 $2,500 $5,000 $7,500 $10,000 $12,500 $15,000 $18,750 $150,000 $3,000 $6,000 $9,000 $12,000 $15,000 $18,180 $22,500 $175,000 $3,500 $7,000 $$10,500 $14,000 $17,500 $21,000 $26,250 C6<79,=H2=6D6719=* For some, giving back 10% (or more) of their annual household income is a daunting challenge. This is why stewardship is about growth. It encourages us to assess where we are in returning a substantial proportion of our blessings back to God out of gratitude for everything we have been given. It is about finding the level of giving that brings us joy. 12

Here is a place for closing comments. Tell people this is an invitation to do more. Let them know how important it is that they are a part of the extraordinary effort. Give dates/times/specifics of other stewardship activities. Remind them to be in prayer for the ministries of your parish, as well as for their own response to God s call to stewardship. Remind them of the joy of giving that comes from responding to God s grace.
