The Challenge of Covenant Presbyterian Church 1 Daniel Janosik, Ph.D. Understand Defend Refute Professor, Will your conference portray Islam as a religion bent on world domination? Will the workshops talk about converting Muslims to Christianity? Or about being able to argue that Christianity is the true religion and Islam is a false one? Just trying to better understand. Tim Funk, The Charlotte Observer By Daniel Janosik 2014 Here are some guidelines (1) Truth about reality is knowable, and (2) the opposite of true is false. This leads to the Law of Noncontradiction that states that a true statement and its opposite cannot both be true at the same time in the same sense. In regard to Christianity and Islam, this means that since there are cardinal differences between these two religions (Trinity, deity of Christ, crucifixion/resurrection, accuracy of the OT and NT, etc.), then both of these religions cannot be true (though they both can be false). 1

As Christians, we believe that Christianity is true, and, therefore, according to the Law of Non-contradiction, we believe that Islam cannot be true. So, in regard to your third question, I would say yes, we will argue that Christianity is the true religion and Islam is a false one. In all fairness, you would have to agree that Islam makes the same claim, and will therefore argue that Christianity is false. You cannot have two different religions saying the Same Thing in the Same Sense at the Same Time Islam Tawhid Jesus only a Prophet Jesus taken into heaven The Bible has been corrupted Christianity Trinity Jesus is God Jesus actually died on the cross The Bible is the trustworthy Word of God Most Muslims in the world want the same things that we want: peace, prosperity and a chance to pursue positive goals About 15% are said to be Radical Muslims (around 180 million)* Most victims of Radical Islamic terrorism are Muslims *Bridgette Gabrielle estimates 15-25%, or up to 250 million There is a new wind blowing in the House of Islam More Muslims have come to the Lord in the past 20 years than the previous 1400 years put together! Muslims are not the problem, Islam is 2

Bad ideas have bad Consequences Islam is keeping 1.6 Billion people from seeing the beauty of the Lord the one person who can truly open their eyes and make them see the Splendor of Eternity! Islam Beliefs and Traditions 1. Allah 2. Belief in angels and demons (jinn) 1. Belief in One God: Allah 4. Belief in 5. Belief in the revealed books Day of Judgment of God: the (Heaven and Hell) Qur an is the final revelation 3. Belief in Prophets of God: Muhammad is the most important 6. Belief in the Supremacy of Allah s Will (Predestination) 1. Allah is the one true God. vthe word "Allah" probably comes from al illah, which means "the God. vallah is an absolute unity: Unitarian rather than Trinitarian 3

2. Prophets Are Allah and Yahweh the same God? Can the Father of Jesus be the God of Muhammad? 2. Muhammad is the last and greatest of the prophets. v Jesus is said to be the sinless prophet, but is considered as neither the greatest prophet or as deity. 3. Holy Books 3. The Qur'an is the most important of the scriptures. vparts of the Bible are accepted, and Jews and Christians are considered people of the book, but only the Qur'an is considered uncorrupted. vthe Tauret (the Pentateuch of Moses) v The Zabur (the Psalms of David) v The Injil (the gospels of Jesus) 4. Angels and Demons 4.There are angels and demons (jinn) vthere is also a ruler of the demons: Iblis or Shaitan (Satan) 5. Judgment 5. There will be a day of judgement, a resurrection, and a heaven and hell. vsalvation is man's responsibility; it depends on a man's actions and attitudes and not God's grace. 6. There is a belief in the supremacy of Allah s will v This deals with the tension between Allah s foreordaining and human free will vthe sayings of Muhammad, recorded in the Hadith, favor a view of predestination more than the Qur an v a favorite phrase is insha allah (if Allah wills) 4

2. Salat 3. Zakat Islam 1. Shahadah 4. Sawm (Ramadan) 5. Hajj "There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is his prophet." ["Lailaha-illa-Allah"] a. The word Islam essentially means "surrender" or "submission" to the will of Allah. b. The word Muslim refers to "one who submits." 5

July 16, 622 A.D. NOTE: None of these events are Historical! They were not written down until 200 years later How do we know that any of it really happened? After his death in 632 A.D., his successors (caliphs) continued to aggressively spread Islam by means of the sword. Within the next 100 years, Islam took over parts of India, all of North Africa, and a part of Europe This is Historical! 6

The Spread of Islam five times a day while facing Mecca. 7

a. Muslims are not allowed to eat or drink during the day. (1) Many eat before sunrise and after sunset. 8

Force is advocated to overcome the infidels and spread Islam. Jihad for the sake of Allah is not some unfortunate deviation from the true faith, it s an integral part of that faith. Needed: A New Church Policy toward Islam [Pt. 2] by William Kilpatrick, Crisis Magazine February 4, 2015 Our Prophet, the Messenger of our Lord, has ordered us to fight you till you worship Allah Alone or give Jizya (i.e. tribute); and our Prophet has informed us that our Lord says: Whoever amongst us is killed (i.e. martyred), shall go to Paradise to lead such a luxurious life as he has never seen, and whoever amongst us remain alive, shall become your master. Sahih al-bukhari Volume 4, Book 53, Number 386.1 9

1. Sura 9:5 reads: Fight and slay the pagans (i.e. infidels) wherever ye find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem of war. Violence flows out of the primary characteristic of God in Islam: Power. God is affirmed as being able to do anything, including making what is right, wrong, and making that which is wrong, right. Thus his righteousness is subordinate to his power. Interestingly, there is only one thing which Islam affirms God cannot do -- become incarnate. Islam denies the sonship of Christ, and affirms the impossibility of God coming in the flesh. Thus the Trinity is also denied. Idolaters and unbelievers were considered enemies of the Islamic community. The world was divided into two areas: the world of Islam and the world of disobedience. George Braswell, Jr. 10

Through struggle and warfare the world of disobedience was to be brought under the authority and subjugation of the world of Islam. Thus Islam was the correct and pure religion, and jihad was the method to bring others into it through conversion or through domination. George Braswell, Jr. Mark Durie s Book Infidels are given Three Choices: Convert Die Pay the Jizya and submit to Muslims Muslims desire to bring the whole world under the domination of Islam Those nations that are under the domination of Islam are not democracies Christians, at best, are not allowed to witness and are considered 2 nd class citizens Over time Islam seeks to root out and rid the world of Christianity 11
