Smazik Leader: Those who sow with tears Senior Pastor People: will reap with songs of joy. Leader: Those who go out weeping People: will return home with shouts of joy. *HYMN 288 I Sing the Mighty Power of God Ellacombe I sing the mighty power of God, that made the mountains rise, That spread the flowing seas abroad, and built the lofty skies. I sing the wisdom that ordained the sun to rule the day; The moon shines full at God s command, and all the stars obey. I sing the goodness of the Lord, who filled the earth with food, Who formed the creatures through the Word, and then pronounced them good. Lord, how Thy wonders are displayed, where er I turn my eyes, If I survey the ground I tread, or gaze upon the skies!

There s not a plant or flower below, but makes Thy glories known, And clouds arise, and tempests blow, by order from Thy throne; While all that borrows life from Thee is ever in Thy care; And everywhere that we can be, Thou, God art present there. PRAYER OF CONFESSION (Unison) Elder Linda Gaden (9:15) Elder Barbara King (11:00) Gracious God, you have chosen us to be your people and to praise your glory; but we confess that we have overlooked the presence of Jesus Christ in our midst, neglected the poor, and placed our confidence in the flesh. Forgive us, O God, for the selfish gains we have accrued are nothing compared to knowing Christ. Do not remember our former sins or consider the things of old. Restore the fortunes of your people, that we, with your whole creation, may declare you praise. SILENT PRAYER ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS *RESPONSE TO FORGIVENESS (Hymn 84, Stanza 3) When the sun of bliss is beaming Light and love upon my way, From the cross the radiance streaming Adds more luster to the day. A TIME WITH YOUNG CHRISTIANS (11:00) Alexandra Mead Director of Christian Education PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION (Unison) God of mercy, you promised never to break your covenant with us. Amid all the changing words of our generation, speak your eternal Word that does not change. Then may we respond to your gracious promises with faithful and obedient lives; through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. FIRST SCRIPTURE READING: Isaiah 43:16-21 (Old Testament, page 632) This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God! 4

ANTHEM (9:15) Abide with Me arr. Carol Tornquist ANTHEM (11:00) My Shepherd Will Supply My Need Mack Wilberg The Chancel Choir My Shepherd will supply my need; Jehovah is his Name; In pastures fresh he makes me feed, beside the living stream. He brings my wand ring spirit back, when I forsake his ways, and leads me for his mercy s sake, in paths of truth and grace. When I walk through the shades of death, thy presence is my stay: One word of thy supporting breath drives all my fears away. Thy hand, in sight of all my foes, doth still my table spread; My cup with blessings overflows, thine oil anoints my head. The sure provisions of my God attend me all my days; O may thy house be mine abode and all my work be praise! There would I find a settled rest while others go and come, no more a stranger, nor a guest; but like a child at home. SECOND SCRIPTURE READING: John 12:1-8 (New Testament, page 100) This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God! SERMON Final Preparations Dr. Smazik *HYMN 101 When I Survey the Wondrous Cross Hamburg When I survey the wondrous cross On which the Prince of glory died, My richest gain I count but loss, And pour contempt on all my pride. Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast, Save in the death of Christ my God! All the vain things that charm me most, I sacrifice them to His blood. See from His head, His hands, His feet, Sorrow and love flow mingled down! Did e er such love and sorrow meet, Or thorns compose so rich a crown? His dying crimson, like a robe, Spreads o er His body on the tree; Then I am dead to all the globe, And all the globe is dead to me. 5

Were the whole realm of nature mine, That were a present far too small; Love so amazing, so divine, Demands my soul, my life, my all. To Christ, who won for sinners grace By bitter grief and anguish sore, Be praise from all the ransomed race Forever and forevermore. MOMENT FOR MISSION: One Great Hour Sharing Elder Bruce Fisher GREETING/OFFERING OURSELVES AND OUR GIFTS TO GOD (Please sign and pass the friendship pad, found in the pew, to the person next to you. Offering envelopes, prayer request cards and visitor cards are located in the pew pockets for your convenience. Cards will be collected with the offering.) OFFERTORY (9:15) My Shepherd will Supply My Need Dale Grofenhuis My Shepherd will supply my need; Jehovah is his Name; In pastures fresh he makes me feed, beside the living stream. He brings my wand ring spirit back, when I forsake his ways, and leads me for his mercy s sake, in paths of truth and grace. There would I find a settled rest while others go and come, no more a stranger, nor a guest; but like a child at home. OFFERTORY (11:00) The Lord is My Shepherd (Requiem) John Rutter The Chancel Choir Merynda Adams, harp, Michael Witsberger, oboe, Carol Johnson, organ The Lord is my shepherd; therefore can I lack nothing. He shall feed me in a green pasture, and lead me forth beside the waters of comfort. He shall convert my soul and bring me forth in the paths of righteousness, for his Name s sake. Yea, though I walk thro the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For thou art with me: Thy rod and thy staff comfort me. Thou shalt prepare a table for me against them that trouble me: Thou hast anointed my head with oil and my cup shall be full. But thy loving kindness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: And I will dwell in the house of the Lord, for ever. 6

* DOXOLOGY (from Hymn 416, Christ Is Made the Sure Foundation) Laud and honor to the Father, Laud and honor to the Son, Laud and honor to the Spirit, Ever three and ever one; One in might and one in glory While unending ages run. *PRAYER OF DEDICATION PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE THE LORD S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. *HYMN 307 Fight the Good Fight Duke Street Fight the good fight with all thy might; Christ is thy Strength, and Christ thy Right; Lay hold on life, and it shall be Thy joy and crown eternally. Run the straight race through God s good grace, Lift up thine eyes, and seek Christ s face; Life with its way before us lies, Christ is the Path, and Christ the Prize. Cast care aside, lean on thy Guide, God s boundless mercy will provide; Trust and the trusting soul shall prove Christ is its Life, and Christ its Love. Faint not nor fear, God s arms are near, God changeth not, and thou art dear. Only believe, and thou shalt see That Christ is all in all to thee. *BENEDICTION POSTLUDE Improvisation on Abbot s Leigh 7
