PRELUDE A SERVICE OF WORSHIP IN WITNESS TO THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST With Praise and Thanks to Almighty God for the life of MARGARET LOIS FREDRICK COCHRAN October 1 st, 1921 April 4 th, 2017 ORDER OF WORSHIP 10:00a.m. April 10, 2017 *Please stand if you are able. SENTENCES OF SCRIPTURE Romans 6:3-5 Rev. Dr. Emmett Powers *PROCESSIONAL HYMN 280 BRINGING IN THE LIGHT Amazing Grace Acolyte PRAYER The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray: O God, who gave us birth, you are ever more ready to hear than we are to pray. You know our needs before we ask, and our ignorance in asking. Show us now your grace, that as we face the mystery of death we may see the light of serenity. Speak to us once more your solemn message of life and of death. Help us to live as those who are prepared to die. When our days here are ended, enable us to die as those who go forth to live, so that living or dying, our life may be in Jesus Christ our risen Lord. Amen. SOLO The Twenty-third Psalm Dennis Rowe 1
HYMN 543 Abide with Me EVENTIDE CONFESSION AND PARDON CALL TO CONFESSION Holy God, you see us as we are, and know our inmost thoughts. We confess that we are unworthy of your gracious care. We forget that all life comes from you and that to you all life returns. We have not always sought or done your will. We have not lived as your grateful children, nor loved as Christ loved us. Apart from you, we are nothing. Only your grace can sustain us. Lord, in your mercy, forgive us, heal us, and make us whole. Set us free from our sin, and restore to us the joy of your salvation now and forever (silent prayers may be offered) THE LORD S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. DECLARATION OF FORGIVENESS RESPONSE Gloria Patri-Glory Be to the Father Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be. World without end. Amen. Amen. READING FROM THE SCRIPTURE Isaiah 65:17-19, 21-25 Pew Bible, OT Pg. 696 The Word of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God! 2

Margaret Lois Fredrick Cochran, 95, passed peacefully from this life on April 4, 2017. She was born on October 1, 1921, in Sioux City, Iowa to Ernest and Viola Fredrick. Due to her father s work with YMCA, Margaret and her family moved a number of times before settling in Dallas, Texas. Upon graduation from Woodrow Wilson High School, Margaret entered Southern Methodist University (SMU) where she pledged Chi Omega Sorority and played on the tennis team. While singing in the City Temple Presbyterian Church in Dallas, she met the love of her life Ernest Winston Cochran. Winston was finishing his medical training at Baylor Medical School. On September 12, 1941, Margaret and Winston were married. After December 7, 1941, Winston joined the United States Navy where he became a surgeon assigned to a Marine battalion serving in the South Pacific. Following the War, Margaret and Winston settled in Galveston, Texas so that Winston could finish his medical training as a psychiatrist. During that time their two daughters were born, Carrie Margaret (Peggy) in 1945 and Patricia Anne (Tricia) in 1948. Late in 1948 Margaret and Winston moved to Beaumont, Texas, where Winston began his practice as a highly successful psychiatrist. Margaret and Winston continued their interest in music by being soloists in the Westminster Presbyterian Church choir and participating in the Beaumont Opera Workshop. Margaret had a beautiful lyric soprano voice while Winston was a basso profundo. As Winston worked to build his practice, Margaret s time was filled with raising the family. This family increased with the birth 5
of Ernest Winston Jr. (Ernie) in 1953. Having been raised to value volunteerism, Margaret became actively involved in her children s activities. She served as PTA President at specific schools and citywide. She was on boards for YWCA, Camp Fire Girls of America, and Beaumont Independent School District. At church she taught Sunday school, Bible School, and served as one of the first female elders of St. Andrew s Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the board for the Jefferson County Medical Auxiliary. Margaret was a gracious hostess, loving wife, wonderful mother, and adoring grandmother. When Winston retired in 1984, they retired to their second home in Wildwood, Texas. They became active in the Wildwood Methodist Church and AARP. They became avid birders and world travelers. They enjoyed their new life until 2001 when Winston died of cancer. They had been married for fifty-nine years. Due to health reasons Margaret moved in with her daughter Peggy in Beaumont in 2005. She lived there until 2013 when she moved into Atria Collier Park Senior Living where she became the queen of bingo. Margaret is preceded in death by her mother and father, Viola and Ernest Fredrick, her brother Robert Fredrick, and her husband Winston Cochran. She is survived by her children, Peggy Graham of Beaumont; Tricia Crowley and her husband, Lee, of League City; and Ernie Cochran and his wife, Pat, of Paris, Texas; granddaughters, Amy Graham Goodman and Heather Cochran Provo; grandsons, Chris Crowley, Carl Crowley, Bryan Graham, Trace Cochran, James Paul Cochran, Matt Cochran; five great-grandchildren; and two nephews, Bob and Ashley Fredrick. The family would like to thank Sherrill Mayes, Ronda Broussard, and Belinda Dill for their loving and compassionate care of Margaret. Thanks also go to Lorri Robertson and Susan McCombs from Harbor Hospice and Atria Collier Park. 6
To Margaret Our Fifty Years Together The clouds of war hung heavy As we started life together. The only question then was when; No longer was it whether Our plans would be turned upside down And oceans separate us. But all the pain just seemed to serve To further consecrate us. 7 It seems that ever since the war The Lord has smiled on us, For everything that we could wish He has given us. Two lovely daughters and a son
All sound of limb and mind. With marriages and children, all, The best that one could find! Grandchildren number seven now With futures seeming bright, With all three homes inviting us To share in this delight. Our pride and joy are overwhelming Realizing we Have shared in such a contribution To posterity! We have so much to thank Him for, Success in work and pleasure, Health and friends and other blessings Given beyond measure, The love we ve shared through thick and thin, Through fair and stormy weather, But most of all we thank Him for Our fifty years together! -Winston 8
