PRELUDE STORY WORSHIP HOME SOCIAL SOCIAL: PROVIDING TIME FOR FUN INTERACTION Welcome kids and spend time engaging in conversation and catching up. Get ready to experience today s story. Before kids arrive, pray for each regular attendee by name. Pray for those who might visit your group for the first time. Pray that kids would be inspired by today s message to take on the challenge of telling others about Jesus. Ask God to put friends in their path who need to hear His story, and that He would give your few the courage and humility to tell it! 1. EARLY ARRIVER IDEA WHAT YOU NEED: Offering container Collect kids offerings as they arrive Ask kids what they know about kings, queens, princes, and princesses. What real princes or princesses can they name? What pretend princes or princesses do they know? 2. KING ME WHAT YOU NEED: Map Activity Page, construction paper, markers Tell kids they are going to have the chance to rule their own kingdom. Show kids the sample map and explain to them that they will be making maps of their own. Take a couple minutes to brainstorm what kids would want in a kingdom of their own. Point out that because they re just imagining it, they can have anything they want; it doesn t have to be something that s on the example map. Give each kid a piece of paper and markers and let them draw a map of their pretend kingdom. Let them come up with rules (or laws) for their kingdom. Write some of these on the back of the kids maps. If time allows, give each kid a chance to stand up and share his map. Encourage him to tell the rest of the kids about his kingdom and its laws. Those kingdoms look really nice and I think I could handle living under those laws! It would be pretty fun to be the king or queen of your own kingdom, huh? [Transition] Today in Large Group, we are going to hear about the greatest king who ever lived. Lead your group to the Large Group area. PAGE 5
PRELUDE SOCIAL STORY WORSHIP HOME : CREATING A SAFE PLACE TO CONNECT Create a safe place to connect and learn how the Bible story applies to real life experiences, through interactive activities and discussion questions. *1. A WORLD OF HUMILITY (application activity / review the Bible story) WHAT YOU NEED: A World of Humility Activity Pages, crayons, Internet access (optional) Give each kid a copy of the Activity Page. Tell kids that in some other countries, people speak in different languages than we do. Show them the words on the Activity Page and tell them that this is how you say humble in those countries. Type in the foreign words on https://translate.google.com/, if possible, and listen to how they are pronounced. Try to say the words together. Let kids color the map with a different color for each country. The world is filled with all kinds of people that are different from us. People in other parts of the world look different, act different, and speak differently than we do. But Jesus didn t just die for some people or for the people who look and act like we do. Jesus died for everyone and he told us to share His story with the WHOLE world. We can share about Jesus through our actions when we remember that [Bottom Line] I can put others first by doing what Jesus said. God told us to love others and put them first, and He meant everyone in the world. A great way to love others and put them first is by telling them about God s great love for them. [Make It Personal] (Tell kids about a time you shared the gospel with someone or someone shared the gospel with you.) 2. SCOOT ALONG (application activity) WHAT YOU NEED: Flattened cardboard box, masking tape Group kids into pairs. Using the masking tape, make a line on the floor at one end of the room and another one about 15-20 feet away. Have pairs line up together behind the starting line. As it is each pair s turn, have them choose one kid to sit on the cardboard while the other partner pulls them down to the finish line by holding on to the edge of the cardboard. On the way back to the start, partners must switch roles. Then let the next pair have a turn with the cardboard. That looked like it was pretty fun getting pulled around on those cardboard sleds! Was it more fun to be the one sitting or the one doing the pulling? (Pause.) I think it would be more fun to be pulled than to do all that hard work, but Jesus tells us that we need to be humble sometimes and let others have a chance to go first. When we act in a way that honors God, we will remember that [Bottom Line] I can put others first by doing what Jesus said. As you go through your week, remember that sometimes we need to let others be the ones to go first even if that means we don t get what we want. PAGE 6

LEND A HAND (memory verse activity) WHAT YOU NEED: Lend a Hand Activity Pages, scissors, glue sticks, construction paper, washable paint, paper plates, baby wipes Give each kid a piece of construction paper and a memory verse strip. Ask if anyone wants to volunteer to read the verse or if anyone can say it from memory. Briefly review the verse with your group. Pass out glue sticks and ask kids to glue their memory verse to their paper. They can put it anywhere they want to. Tell kids they will be making a collage of many different colored fingerprints on their paper. Before setting out the paint, encourage kids to be calm and have self-control when touching the paint. Remind them to practice putting others first by not hogging the paint. You might even tell them they can only use the paint if they re being kind to others and not making a mess on purpose. Then squeeze the washable paint onto paper plates one color per plate. Allow kids to lightly dip their fingers in the paint and make a fingerprint wherever they want on their paper. They can make another fingerprint of the same color or choose a different color and dip a different finger in that paint. Continue letting kids place fingerprints all over their paper until their collages are full. As they finish, hand out wet wipes and help kids wipe their fingers off. Let them wash hands if you have close access to a sink. These colorful pictures are really beautiful! The fingerprints here represent the children in the world who might look different than you or speak differently than you, but they still need to know about God s love for them. Jesus told us to tell everyone about Him and to always be humble and value others more than ourselves. We can be humble by doing things not because we want to get ahead of someone else or because we are prideful, but because we want to be more like Jesus. Hang this collage up somewhere you will see it this week to remind you that [Bottom Line] I can put others first by doing what Jesus said. PRAY AND DISMISS WHAT YOU NEED: Bag of M&Ms, paper towels Let kids choose an M&M from the bag. You may let them choose more than one if you d like, but don t let them take a huge handful! Tell kids not to eat their M&Ms and to place them on a paper towel so they don t melt. Instruct kids to pray for someone based on which color M&M they have: o Red: People who live in other countries o Orange: People who are sick o Yellow: Friends who don t know Jesus o Green: People in our country who don t know Jesus yet o Blue: People who are homeless o Brown: People who are lonely PAGE 7

After the prayer, you may let kids eat the M&Ms. When Jesus appeared to the disciples after His resurrection, He told them to go out and tell everyone about Him throughout the whole world. By following His instructions, [Bottom Line] I can put others first by doing what Jesus said. Now let s take a moment to pray for all the people these M&Ms represent. When I say the color of the M&M you have in your hand, stand with me to pray for those people. God, thank You for sending Your Son to die for us, and thank You even more that He rose from the dead to save us from our sins. Today we want to pray for Your people around the world. With these red M&Ms (have kids holding a red M&M stand up), we pray for people who live in other countries. Help them hear about You. With these orange M&Ms (have kids holding an orange M&M stand up), we pray for people who are sick. Please heal them and comfort them. With these yellow M&Ms (have kids holding a yellow M&M stand up), we pray for our friends who don t know You yet. Help us tell them about You! With these green M&Ms (have kids holding a green M&M stand up), we pray for people in our country, at school, and in our neighborhoods who don t know You yet. With these blue M&Ms (have kids holding a blue M&M stand up), we pray for people who are homeless. May they find shelter and a safe place to sleep tonight. With these brown M&Ms (have kids holding a brown M&M stand up), we pray for people who are lonely. Give them friends to encourage them and let them know You re there for them. Amen.
