Revelation 16:1-21 Wrath of God Seven Last Plagues The Seven Bowls 1 Then I heard a loud voice from the temple saying to the seven angels, "Go and pour out the bowls of the wrath of God on the earth." First Bowl: Loathsome Sores 2 So the first went and poured out his bowl upon the earth, and a foul and loathsome sore came upon the men who had the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. Second Bowl: Sea Waters Turn to Blood 3 Then the second angel poured out his bowl on the sea, and it became blood as of a dead man; and every living creature in the sea died. Third Bowl: Fresh Waters Turn to Blood 4 Then the third angel poured out his bowl on the rivers and springs of water, and they became blood. 5 And I heard the angel of the waters saying: "You are righteous, O Lord, The One who is and who was and who is to be, Because You have judged these things. 6 For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, And You have given them blood to drink. For it is their just due." 7 And I heard another from the altar saying, "Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are Your judgments." Fourth Bowl: Men Are Scorched 8 Then the fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and power was given to him to scorch men with fire. 9 And men were scorched with great heat, and they blasphemed the name of God who has power over these plagues; and they did not repent and give Him glory. Fifth Bowl: Darkness and Pain 10 Then the fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and his kingdom became full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues because of the pain. 11 They blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and did not repent of their deeds. Sixth Bowl: Euphrates Dried Up 12 Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, so that the way of the kings from the east might be prepared. Nations called to the Battle of Armageddon 13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs coming out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. 14 For they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

15 "Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame." 16 And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon. Seventh Bowl: The Earth Utterly Shaken 17 Then the seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, "It is done!" 18 And there were noises and thunderings and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such a mighty and great earthquake as had not occurred since men were on the earth. 19 Now the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell. And great Babylon was remembered before God, to give her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of His wrath. 20 Then every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. 21 And great hail from heaven fell upon men, each hailstone about the weight of a talent. Men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail, since that plague was exceedingly great. NKJV Facts Revealed: The Seven Bowls Command to release the Seven Last Plagues Then I heard a loud voice from the temple saying to the seven angels, "Go and pour out the bowls of the wrath of God on the earth." [Revelation 16:1] The command to begin the final plagues comes by a loud voice from the Temple of God. The plagues are clear and specific, they will play out exactly as described. First Bowl: Loathsome Sores So the first went and poured out his bowl upon the earth, and a foul and loathsome sore came upon the men who had the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. [Revelation 16:2] The plague of Locust tormented everyone except the 144,000. [Revelation 9:1-12] This was like the first four plagues of Egypt that affected everyone, but from the fifth plague and on God made a distinction between the Children of Israel and the Egyptians. [Exodus 9:4] In the Great Tribulation, the plagues have hit everyone except the 144,000 up to the first Bowl plague by which God made a distinction between those who followed the Beast and received the Mark of the Beast, and those who did not. God protects His Own as He did in the plagues of Egypt. Now the focus is against the Beast and his followers personally. Second Bowl: Sea Waters Turn to Blood Then the second angel poured out his bowl on the sea, and it became blood as of a dead man; and every living creature in the sea died. [Revelation 16:3] Third Bowl: Fresh Waters Turn to Blood [Revelation 16:4]

Then the third angel poured out his bowl on the rivers and springs of water, and they became blood. [Revelation 16:4] And I heard the angel of the waters saying: "You are righteous, O Lord, The One who is and who was and who is to be, Because You have judged these things. For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, And You have given them blood to drink. For it is their just due." [Revelation 16:5-6] And I heard another from the altar saying, "Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are Your judgments." [Revelation 16:7] We have seen that God has angels responsible over everything of His Creation, this is the Angel over the waters. God is praised for the justice of His judgments. Fourth Bowl: Men Are Scorched Then the fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and power was given to him to scorch men with fire. [Revelation 16:8] And men were scorched with great heat, and they blasphemed the name of God who has power over these plagues; and they did not repent and give Him glory. [Revelation 16:9] This is a fulfillment of intense heat described in [Isaiah 30:26-28] leading to the restoration of Israel. Human nature is on display as men prefer to curse God more willingly than to repent and turn to Him for salvation. Fifth Bowl: Darkness and Pain Then the fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and his kingdom became full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues because of the pain. [Revelation 16:10] Darkness and pain like the darkness over Egypt that could be felt only more severe. [Exodus 10:21] They blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and did not repent of their deeds. [Revelation 16:11] Their evil doings are described in the Sixth Trumpet, they "did not repent of the works of their hands, that they should not worship demons, and idols of gold, silver, brass, stone, and wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk. And they did not repent of their murders or their sorceries or their sexual immorality or their thefts. [Revelation 9:20-21] They specifically refuse to repent of their evil doings. Again we witness the stubbornness in the heart of mankind, as they refuse to turn to God even when there is no doubt that God is sending the plagues to call them to repentance. Human rebellion defies God to show His Wrath especially at the times of trouble. I find this to be simply amazing when we consider the fact that mankind has no chance against the power of God, and Eternal Punishment in the Lake of Fire is such a fearsome prospect. This also demonstrates that God is holding open the opportunity for repentance to the very end. Whoever calls on the Name of the Lord shall be saved. [Joel 2:32] Sixth Bowl: Euphrates Dried Up Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, so that the way of the kings from the east might be prepared. [Revelation 16:12] God is opening the way for the nations of the earth to be brought to Israel for the Battle of Armageddon.

Nations called to the Battle of Armageddon And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs coming out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. [Revelation 16:13-14] Spirits of demons go throughout the whole world to entice all nations to send their military forces to Israel for the final battle against God. They do not know that it is for their destruction, they only know that the Middle East is a powder keg and they expect to do something to end the crisis. God is working behind the scene to accomplish His Will in the closing chapter of human rule over the earth and sending out the invitations accompanied by miraculous signs. "Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame." [Revelation 16:15] Jesus is coming as a thief in the night as a surprise to the worldly who do not believe His revelation of Truth. The coming of Jesus will be no surprise for the Saint who watches expectantly and recognizes the signs all around him. This is a test and encouragement for those watching Saints who are standing on the knowledge of what God has revealed about this time. Paul said, "But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober." [1 Thessalonians 5:4-6] And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon. [Revelation 16:16] Seventh Bowl: The Earth Utterly Shaken Then the seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, "It is done!" [Revelation 16:17] This Bowl contains the last of the plagues and judgments to the setting up of the Kingdom of God on earth, in it the Wrath of God and the Lamb is completed. [Revelation 15:1] Heaven sees the thing finished before it begins, the next four chapters show it playing out in chronological order. And there were noises and thunderings and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such a mighty and great earthquake as had not occurred since men were on the earth. [Revelation 16:18] Now the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell. And great Babylon was remembered before God, to give her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of His wrath. [Revelation 16:19] Then every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. [Revelation 16:20] And great hail from heaven fell upon men, each hailstone about the weight of a talent. [Revelation 16:21] That is 90 100 pound blocks of ice falling from Heaven. God has the hail stored up for this specific time. [Job 38:22] Men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail, since that plague was exceedingly great. [Revelation 16:21] With the earthquake of the Sixth Trumpet man gave God glory though their hearts were not changed. [Revelation 11:13] Now they have hardened their hearts so much they can not even do that, and God will complete His Wrath so there is no doubt that God rules supreme in His Creation.

Knowing it is the hand of the Lord in the plagues should call men to repent, but instead they choose to blaspheme the name of the only One who could save them. Truly the heart of mankind is self-centered and stubbornly rebellious, unwilling to yield to the majesty of God to the very end. As with the plagues of Egypt, when this is past, men will know that God is God in Heaven and on the earth. [Exodus 6:7, 7:17, 8:22, 9:29, 14:4]
