Colossians 3:12-17 New Century Version (NCV) 12 God has chosen you and made you his holy people. He loves you. So you should always clothe yourselves with mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. 13 Bear with each other, and forgive each other. If someone does wrong to you, forgive that person because the Lord forgave you. 14 Even more than all this, clothe yourself in love. Love is what holds you all together in perfect unity. 15 Let the peace that Christ gives control your thinking, because you were all called together in one body [a] to have peace. Always be thankful. 16 Let the teaching of Christ live in you richly. Use all wisdom to teach and instruct each other by singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17 Everything you do or say should be done to obey Jesus your Lord. And in all you do, give thanks to God the Father through Jesus. If you watch the morning or nightly news it s easy to become discouraged and truly wonder what our world is coming to. People are disagreeing with each other, forcing their own agendas, and treading on each other s lives. And then there is the election coming in November and all the campaign ads and mudslinging. How has all of this seeped into your life or work environment? What does God think when he looks down on his creation? Several weeks ago I spoke on Colossians 3. It must have hit home because I got a lot of good feedback. But I was taken back when one person said that I needed to preach it every three months. That speaks a lot about how we need to rid ourselves of our sins. If we are to pursue holiness, we must take some decisive action. The action we need to take is to put to death the misdeeds of our minds. This means we need to destroy the strength and vitality of sin as it tries to reign in our lives. How do we do this? Conviction. Understand that a holy life with God is important. And to accomplish this we need to develop an area of obedience. These convictions are developed through exposure to the Word of God. This passage from Colossians gives us a firm foundation to fix our minds. Let these words be the dominant influence in our thoughts, our attitudes, and our actions. Reread the verse above and consider how you can clothe yourself with mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, and forgive each other. And above all don t forget your overcoat of Love. Rev. Sue Page 2 THE WAY September 2016

UNITED METHODIST WOMEN NEWS Joy Circle has not met this summer, but we did help with the ice cream festival on Saturday August 13. There are several events that are coming up and will be discussed at our next meeting. The prayer blanket group will start up again in September. If you would like to join us, please see Sue Kariher or any other member to find out when we meet. We would love to have you. The next Joy Circle meeting will be on Monday, August 29 at noon at the church. Lois Dickey and Georgia Farmer will co-host. Hope Circle did not meet in August. We helped with the ice cream festival on Saturday, August 13. We served our famous hot turkey sandwiches, potato salad, baked beans, pasta salad, hot dogs, sloppy joes, and of course, homemade ice cream. It was a success thanks to everyone who helped. This event could not take place without you!! We will be serving a sorority dinner on Wednesday, September 14. Our next meeting is Thursday, September 1 at 6:00 PM at the home of Deann Davis. ELECTION DAY BAZAAR TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 8 The United Methodist Women are planning on having our annual Election Day Bazaar on Tuesday, November 8. Because we are all getting older, we are asking for help this year. Look for signup sheets in a few weeks, for jobs that will help us set up, sort clothing, price items, take down, and clean up, as well as transport leftovers to various charities. Since this is a presidential election year the Bazaar should be well-attended and extra help will be needed. Watch for plans as they unfold. CHILDREN S CHRISTMAS PROGRAM It is not too early to be thinking about the Children s Christmas Program, which will be presented on December 18 during the worship service. The musical is Special Delivery Wrapped in the Father s Love, created by Celeste Clydesdale. This musical shares the excitement of Jesus arrival. The lyrics and drama will give everyone the truth to carry with them and music to share the story of this great Love come to earth. Practices will be on Thursday evenings from 6:00-7 PM beginning with a party on October 27. That evening we will get a preview of the musical, share treats, and have some games. There will also be a time on Sunday mornings during Sunday School for the children to work on the music. Page 3 THE WAY September 2016
