Dominican International School RELIGIOUS STUDIES 8 COURSE SYLLABUS GRADE LEVEL: 8 SCHOOL YEAR: 2017-2018 TEACHER: MR. JOHN ERICK S. MOJE EMAIL: jmoje@dishs.tp.edu.tw COURSE DESCRIPTION: Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. Luke 24:27 Introduction: The Religious Studies course for grade eight students are anchored on the three Pillars of the Campus Ministry Department namely: Word for Doctrine, Witness for the valuing and application of the concept learned, and Worship for the celebration of faith. The harmony of these three pillars will help to ensure wholistic formation of the students. The purpose of this course is to supply the students with a general knowledge of the Church s history from apostolic times to the present. They will be introduced to the fact that the Church was founded by Christ through the Apostles and is sustained by him throughout history through the Holy Spirit. The students will come to know that the Church is the living Body of Christ today and, as such, has both Divine and human elements. In this course, students will learn about the Church s 2000 years of history and about how the Church is led and governed by the successors of the Apostles. Interdisciplinary Performance Task may result in a deeper understanding of the content. Students will also expose to the realities of world/ Church through short report about the current issues and their reaction about them. This will help them develop not only social awareness or global-mindedness but their strong sense of responsibility. Weekly Reflection about the Word of God will also help the students develop interior silence in response to the challenges of present time. The Word will be an invitation for them to live with faith, hope, and love in their hearts.
