October 31 st, 2017 marks 500 years since Martin Luther posted his 95 Theses criticizing abuses within the Catholic Church and identifying the Biblical principles behind his critique. That action set in motion a chain of events known as the Protestant Reformation, which some call the most significant event in western Christianity. We will discover that Luther, whose words, Be a sinner, and let your sins be strong, but let your trust in Christ be stronger shocked the world of his time, still has insights that can strengthen faith today.video presentations will help put the readings into historical perspective. On sale the 2nd Sunday of each month between/after services in the Milling Area and/or Fellowship Hall. United Methodist Student Day is Nov. 26 this year. On United Methodist Student Day, we take up one of our six churchwide special offerings. Through this offering, The United Methodist Church has been able to give more than 2,000 scholarships each year. This is an important way to support our young people in furthering their education and gaining skills that will equip them to live out their faith in every part of their lives. This is an important gift to students considering the current student loan debt in the United States, which is $1.45 trillion dollars spread across 44.2 million Americans. Those under the burden of student loan debt are United Methodist Student Day Offering Sunday, November 26 Please give generously! making average monthly student loan payments of $350. This is quite a burden, and when minimum wage is not adequately covering the cost of raising a family, the need for further education increases. When we give generously, our gifts on United Methodist Student Day go toward scholarships that reduce debt for students.

Transgender Day of Remembrance Monday, November 20 7:00pm at King Avenue UMC Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) is an annual observance on November 20 that honors the memory of those whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence. BETHLEHEM ON BROAD Our collection of food for Bethlehem on Broad Street will run from November 19 to December 10. Boxes and packing lists will be available in the milling area and Fellowship Hall. Our goal is 100 boxes. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Volunteers to load the Bethlehem on Broad boxes on the church bus, Friday, December 15, 9am.
