CATHKIN VOICES 11 Thirteen days already! It is hard to believe. Therefore, the saying is true - Time flies when you re having fun. Up to now we have been blessed during our travels, thank the Lord! We have officially been on tour since 17 July and I must admit that this group of young men are amazing. They have seen and experienced so many things, meet so many (literary 1000 s) of fans and learned valuable life lessons mainly to respect the people and environment around oneself! Normally a tour has its Up s-and-down s. It was very emotional for me when I received a message on Thursday that one of the choristers on tour s father past away unexpectedly last week. With the assistance of the Min-On staff, we managed to get him home safely to South Africa, to his family who needed him. I have informed the tour group yesterday after he was safely back and had the opportunity to talk to his mother. Our sincere condolences goes out to Polane Moloi, his mother Mandi and the rest of the family. We miss Polane already but as they say, The show must go on! Yesterday the boys received some good news. They have been invited to a dinner with the founder of Min-On, Dr Ikeda. To top it off, the next day, they will be treated, by Min-On, by visiting the world famous Tokyo Disneyland. The boy s reaction, when we announced this was astounding. This is truly a once in a lifetime experience and we underwrite this to the boys who have worked so hard since 17 July! After visiting the Min-On head office and museum, we will also enjoy a Lekker Braai. We will be visiting the South African Embassy, who invited us for lunch on 8 August. We will be meeting all the delegates and perform for them in true Drakie style! We are all looking forward to these exiting events. MATSUYAMA Being the capitol city of Ehime Prefecture on Japan s Shikolu Island, it is naturally filled with tropical beauty. It is well known for the Central-Dogo Onsen hot spring bathhouse. If you are looking for a great sight to see, come look at the great Matsuyama Castle. Even though there is a large number of historic sites, the castle is probably the most famous and beautiful. Matsuyama Castle If you are looking for fun things to do, you need to pay a visit to the Matsuyama Temples and Castle Walking Tour. Accommodation is also of very high standards. The best of these the Matsuyama New Grand Hotel with their hot spring bathhouse, the elegant Funaya Hotel, most importantly, the Dogokan Hotel with a 4-star rating, hot spring and fine dining. WONDERS OF TOURING JAPAN LUKE BROWN (GRADE 7) My experience in Matsuyama was exquisite throughout the whole day. I started with an early morning, then straight into a wonderful experience on the bus as we traveled to a long, hardworking rehearsal, in an amazing concert hall. After all that hard work, we got an hour s break time. Left: Luke Brown That led to an exchange with the local choir. The choir was amazing to listen to, and they showed a lot of energy and enthusiasm towards us. They gave us fans and homemade key rings. Mr Linde said Min-On had important news to tell us. Which was that next Monday we are going to Disney land, Tokyo. Obviously hearing that got us all excited. Below: Anthony Malunga and Luke Brown Now we are even more motivated to try our best. During sleep time, all of us had a long nap before the big concert. After changing and getting ready for the concert, we rehearsed for a final time. The concert was amazing; it was great throughout the whole performance! I am grateful for all the people who got me too were I am today and to where I am at that this very moment. Next week Monday!
