Feb 25 - Andy A., Ashley T. & Jae Paget Deacon: Kate Hoffman A Valentine Remember in elementary school writing Valentines and receiving them from your classmates? I remember in Kindergarten celebrating Valentine s Day like that. Each kid made a Valentine box. We decorated them and put slits in the tops where our classmates could drop in their Valentines to us. In our class, each kid had to bring enough cards to give to everyone in the class. So, at the end of the day, all of our boxes were stuffed full of Valentines. Even though the teacher made us give cards to everyone, it was still a lot of fun to read through all the Valentines we got. It still felt good to know someone had thought about us, even if it was only the length of time it took to sign their name. When Valentine s Day comes this month, remember that God has thought specifically about you, and has sent you a Valentine. And he wasn t forced to do it. In fact, he chose to send you a Valentine before you had any interest in him at all. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atonement for our sins (1 John 4:10). He sent us a Valentine even though we didn t send him one, and his Valentine to us cost him a lot. It wasn t just a 10 cent card. It was his Son and his Son s life. It s pretty incredible to think God loves us that deeply. But even though it s hard to believe, it s true. So, this Valentine s Day, marvel at God s forgiving, unconditional, ever-pursuing love for you in Christ. Then let his love for you spill out to others. Love how you have been loved. 1 John 4:11, the next verse, says, Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. May you experience the depth of God s love for you in Christ, and may that love flow out to everyone in your class (life). Love, Pastor Scott 1

February Mission Focus Mike and Tammy, are EPC missionaries serving in Southeast Asia. They would like prayers for: That we would treasure Jesus above all things; that we would be salt and light among this unreached people group, and that we would give God all the glory. That we will boldly proclaim the name of Jesus and salvation only in his name, and for God s protection from the enemy s attempts to stifle the gospel. That we continue to learn the language so we can communicate eternal truths in the language of the people and in a way that is understandable in their culture. For our growing church planting team to accomplish God s will together with complete unity. New Members Class Are you interested in becoming a member of First Presbyterian? Do you just want to know more about the church and what we believe? The New Members Class is for you! Youth Group News Youth News A new year is upon us. There is a lot going on this Winter/Spring in the youth group and the church. Hopefully, the youth group calendar is helpful for you. Remember, often Celisa and I like to add things to the calendar as opportunities arise. These type of events include things like: Olympic watch parties, guys/girls night, snowball fights, etc. The best way to find out about these events is on social media. Please let us know if you would prefer to receive an email or text. Bible Lesson Series During the Winter/Spring we will be studying the Book of Revelation. During the series students will gain a better understanding of how this head scratchingly wonderful book of the Bible can play a role in their life. During the season of Lent we will take a break from this series and do a short series on Lent. Mission Trips MS Mission Trip: Serving with Student life in Sherman, TX: June 11-15 HS Mission Trip: Serving with Praying Pelican Missions in Costa Rica: July 21-27 Mission Trip Meetings Please plan on attending one of our Mission Trip meetings if you would like to find out more about the summer mission trips. They will be held January 31,2018 at 7pm and February 4, 2018 at noon. Fundraising We currently have 4 upcoming fundraisers scheduled. However, please expect to see more pop up. Often we are unaware of all of the fundraising opportunities available to us when making the youth calendar. Please pay attention to the church bulletin and social media to make sure that you are up to date on all of the youth group activities. Please share any fundraising ideas or opportunities that you may know of with Drew. Young Adults Group Are you between the ages of 18 and 30 and looking for your place in the church? We have heard you and would like to invite you to our new Young Adults Group! It will be held once a month at Drew and Celisa s house, typically on the third Saturday of each month, at 6:30pm. There will be dinner, a Bible Study, and time to fellowship with those your own age. We will be meeting again Saturday, February 17, 2018.
